@Rainbow Sprinkles: yepp.

My parents try to feed LO everyday. Me & DH have to practically jump over the table to stop them.

I agree about the old school mentality...Makes me wonder about what people will think about "our" parenting ideas 20+ years from now lol!

Yeah, its just old school thinking. My mom tried to convince me to give C cereal at 2 weeks old.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I agree.

That does sound ridiculous. A 3 month old does not need solid food.

My grandma was trying to tell me to give my 4 month old a cracker to gnaw on. lol And my coworker said she gave her like 1 week old baby cereal in his formula.

Yeah I don't get that at all. I waited until E was able to sit assisted and when he started showing an interest in our food and would mimic chewing. To do it so early just seems unnecessary.

That seems crazy. Food before 1 just for fun...so I can't imagine doing purées that early. Developmentally that can't be good for their digestive system?

I don't get it either.
Maybe it's just my kid, but I feel like DS has been very vocal about when he's ready for things and when he's not. Around 4 months he was eating his hands, crying and kicking when he would see me eat. I never had to "teach" him to eat purees, he knew just what to do the second I motioned the spoon in his direction. He would "chew" and swallow and absolutely loved it from the second I gave it and tried it out.

If a baby is large then there's really no need to start solids until 5-6 months.
It's all for practice anyway. But to answer your question, it totally bugs me too!

I think it's a very old school mentality. Way back when my mom was raising us, she was told to nurse us on a schedule, which cause her supply to drop so the doctors told her that her milk wasn't enough and we needed bottles, pablum and purees to supplement her milk. It wasn't until I explained how things work now that my mom realised what she did back then was counter intuitive, but she would have counseled me to do the same thing if I hadn't read about it myself.

I don't understand it either! Not only do babies not have the muscle control to properly eat solid foods, they also don't have the digestive capabilities. It's crazy that any doctor would recommend it!

I don't understand it either. A baby at that age cannot sit up unassisted and is still working on head and neck control. I can't imagine that a baby that age has shown distinct interest in food as they barely have purposeful movement in terms of grasping for objects.

My cousin's doctor recommended starting her son on purees (veggies, grains AND meats), but the baby just turned 3 months and isn't even 13 pounds yet?!?! Seems very premature for a baby that just got the hang of breastfeeding.

I have an acquaintance that posts pictures of her son eating purees and he's not even three months old yet. Is there a reason someone might do this? I'm trying not to be judgmental but it bothers me for some reason. The dad is really big and tall..maybe his kids need more calories? The baby is huge...
