AND at that point we were moving to an apt without washer/dryer so we would have had the ADDED cost of laundry (and I don't think it was allowed here - AND the washer didn't have rinse-only cycles)... Secondarily I like that it's less chemical-y. For both the baby and the dog, as I've heard that the gel beads are poisonous to dogs and ours gets into exactly what you don't want her to. I don't think I'm gonna make out much better on the cost front, lol. Thirsties I just have in size 2 - and those were all purchased new. Gdiapers I have in sizes from premie to XL. Those were purchased about 50/50 new and used. I stuff them with prefolds or flats - I have a ton of each. Most of that was just lucky hits at the resale shops - I don't think I bought any new inserts, but covers in good shape are hard to find used, so I mostly bought those. But cloth diaper stuff on amazon isn't very expensive - even thirsties snappies are just $13 each. </p> <p>I got some of this stuff handme down - half of my prefolds, lots of my size small gdiaper stuff. I might have spent $100 more had I not gotten that stuff, although a lot of it is just extra. I spent about 200 dollars on cloth diapers, and I'm done forever. I spend 10-20 dollars a month on disposables for nighttime/random accidents out in public, and that expense irritates me. I couldn't imagine spending it to diaper a child full time. My stash will diaper any future children I have, and then I'll pass it down to some other family, so it'll be useful for a long time. Our other main motivations were cost savings and better for the environment....</p> <p>When we cloth diaper we have only 1 small bag of trash each week! I love never having to buy a diaper or a wipes. It's so nice to not worry about running out of diapers. My mom used cloth on me and long before DS was born (~6 weeks pregnant) we decided we would be using cloth full time...DS actually prefers the cloth on his bum as he has sensitive skin.
