glad to hear its pretty normal! except now she is waking at 2am and 4am to play haha....She started crying at 2am last night after playing for a bit, so I went in and nursed her but I let her play for awhile at 4am and she went back to sleep until 6.
@googly-eyes: I think she is getting ready to drop her catnap before bed- she has been fighting it like crazy lately and maybe a longer awake time before bed will help. going to try it tonight!

Mine did the same thing at 5.5 months! I started aiming for longer wake times before bed and that helped. She still does it on occasion though at almost 7 months. I just close my eyes and ignore now unless she's fussing/crying!

It's definitely normal! LO will usually wake up around 7, but we make it a point to not get him until 7:30 to stick with our schedule we've created. He's happy as can be to play with his hands or rolling from side to side. Sometimes, he'll get up at 6, play for a half hour and fall back to sleep until 7:30.

I would just let her be...She is not crying or needing your immediate attention, so I would let her entertain herself and only go to get her if she becomes unhappy. I know its tough to sleep through her noises...I cannot sleep if my LO makes even the slightest sound! And try to remember...nothing stays the same! Her wake up time might be this early now, but it wont be like that forever :)

This is pretty normal, LO has gone through this a couple times in the last few months. Her big one now is at night when it's bed time she gets super silly trying to stay awake.

Our LO has done this since around that stage but we never worried about it. As long as she's not fussing, we just left her and she would eventually put herself back to sleep. In the meantime, we'd just lay in bed laughing at the sound of her having a grand ole time playing!

I think babies will sleep why they're tired so I wouldn't worry about forcing her to go back to sleep. As long as she's not fussing, I don't think it's a problem.

@twoofeverything: @MamaMoose: hmm maybe i should just wait and see if she'll go back to sleep on her own. she once played around for an hour tho, and i just really wanted her to sleep lol. i dont want to reinforce the behavior though by going in, and i def dont want 4am playtime w/mommy! haha

@cascademom: i forgot to mention we already do a dreamfeed....she is still waking around 4 to nurse but i am fine with it, because before this, she was waking 3-4 times a night to feed! lol. so maybe she will drop that on her own?

Mine's been doing it at around 6am past few days. I usually let him play in his crib when I get ready, then go in, nurse him, dress him for daycare.

Can I suggest a dreamfeed? Maybe feed your LO at midnight or so to prevent the 4am wakeup. We've been doing that for awhile and we don't have any 4am wakeups. We're hoping to drop it soon, so he'll totally STTN, but for now, he eats, then goes back to sleep on my schedule, not his.

I think it's pretty normal.
DS will sometimes do this. I don't go back in unless he's crying...sometimes it takes 30-40 minutes, but he eventually goes back to sleep for another couple of hours!
I wonder if going back in to nurse/rock her will send the message that you'll come in and give her attention during that time. Which makes it playtime with Mommy. Which...probably isn't what you want at 4am!

So LO has consistently been going down at 6:30pm, waking between 4-4:30am to eat, and then going back down until 6:30am for a few weeks now. Sometimes she doesn't fall back asleep nursing at that 4am session, but she would always just go back to sleep within a few seconds once i laid her down in her crib.

However, the last few days after her 4am feed, she is wide awake and playing in her crib. Not crying, not fussing, just cooing, squealing, trying to roll over, playing with her lovey, etc. while it is pretty cute and entertaining to watch on the monitor, i don't want her to be overtired and I can't really sleep hearing her playing, so I have just been going back in an trying to get her to sleep again by nursing or rocking.

Is this normal behavior for a 5 month old? I'm just wondering why she is starting to do this. I do NOT want our wake up time to be 4am! lol Do you think she is over the early bedtime and maybe we should try to put her to bed later? Would you just let your LO continue to play and not go in?
