@Foodnerd81: My DH wanted a wifi one too and I'm glad I didn't cave on it. I wouldn't have been happy with the wifi camera and I'm the one that uses it. The monitor pretty much lives with me and I like the Motorola.

My negative is the camera sensor is super sensitive!!! I get movement notifications a lot. Even when there is no one in the room, no fan, no opened window. It's kinda creepy!

@regberadaisy: ugh since having a baby, such a light sleeper.

I guess odds are no matter where we move the baby's room will be fairly close to ours anyway, and by the time we move C will be almost 3 and able to come get us if something is wrong.

@Foodnerd81: p.s. In the earlier days when DH has to work late and missed bedtime. He definitely opened up the app on his phone just to see her sleep. I think that's one of the biggest perk of a wifi monitor with app function for me. You technically have more than one monitor for free!

@Foodnerd81: it depends on how light of a sleeper you are? Some nights just the push notification is enough to wake me up. Some nights not. TBH their bedrooms are down the hall so not hearing her without a monitor isn't a concern. In the earlier days when I was more fearful I would leave the app running all night and left my phone plugged into the charger.

@ShootingStar: honestly I don't really see the big appeal either. But Dh is all about it- the man who doesn't even turn the monitor on when he puts her to bed when I'm out (again, we can hear her everywhere anyway). Yet he claims he wants to be able to look at them when he has to work late or whatever.

@regberadaisy: so if you were out of hearing range of your LO at night, the push notification would be enough to alert you that she was crying? I guess that's my concern- right now we share a wall so don't need the sound at all, but if we moved to a house we could potentially be far enough away that it's the only way I would hear them. That is good to hear that you've never had connectivity issues though. I hate our stupid monitor that goes "out of range" when I'm literally outside her bedroom door.

We have the dropcam which is now nest. We only have one video monitor for the 15m but I know you can use the app to monitor more than one camera.
The app is free and you can also view it via your laptop. I don't always have the program running but if the camera is on I will get notifications for sound or activity. You can choose email or push notification. I get both. You can also auto schedule when the cameras is on and off which is convenient.
We have about 2100 SF with the cheapest Fios package. The bedrooms are upstairs, router in middle level. We've never had the feed drop because of internet issues.
When she was younger I would leave the app running with my phone plugged in. I no longer do that and just rely on push notifications.

You can zoom in on the app and there is two way audio. We tried it on our dog once and it freaked the f out of her! LOL I love the wide angle lens on the camera!

I initially bought the foscam and could not figure out how to set it up on my MacBook. I've heard installation on macs are finicky. The dropcam was super simple to set up.

Re breaking into the feed. Number one, the dropcam has bank level encryption. Two with the dropcam someone would need physical access to your camera before they can hack into it. Something with how each camera is individually coded. I looked it up once. And they would need to hack your encrypted wifi too on top of that.

We're currently in NYC visiting my family and I just turned on my app to view the feed in the nursery. We live in Upstate NY. :)

We have a foscam to monitor our dog. It's works ok, but I like my Motorola baby monitor better. What I like about the baby monitor is that the video/sound are on one device. And I don't need to open an app to see how he's doing. I can hear him continuously and see him at the push of a button.

I used a drop cam (wifi camera) at my parents' house and I hated that I couldn't leave the app running all night. I was really afraid DS was going to wake up and be screaming and it would take me forever to realize it.

Most of the time the monitor just sits on my night stand so there's not much benefit to me to be able to get the video on my phone versus the dedicated monitor. I honestly don't see much benefit to the wifi cameras as baby monitors.

@Foodnerd81: We lowered the sensitivity on ours so it only comes on if she's crying or making noise repeatedly (so if she's talking or singing it does come on). But just for grunts or quick whines it doesn't come on. And we can't hear her white noise over it.

@lawbee11: I think I have the same cheap audio monitor as you and I find having the sound on it so annoying- we run white noise all night and it is always breaking up and staticky. At home we don't need audio (small condo and thin walls) but when we move we may actually have enough space that I could be out of ear shot.

Eta: the sound on our current video monitor is just as annoying though. We just don't use it for sound, just to look at her.

@Foodnerd81: We have a Foscam with a separate audio monitor. I only open the app if I hear her making noise over the audio monitor. When we first moved her to her room I left the app open all night and our wifi got disconnected and it used pretty much all of our data...oops! So I don't do that anymore. Our Foscam is for sure my favorite baby item we have. I love being able to look in on her anytime from my phone and even when I'm not home!

ETA: We use the FoscamPro app. You can take video, pictures, zoom, pan, tilt, and speak through the app. Super easy.

@Foodnerd81: I haven't left it open all night on my phone, but full disclosure LO didn't move into his own room until 10 months so that's when we started using it! I more just open up the app and check on him from time to time throughout the evening (or afternoon for naps!) and if I wake in the middle of the night and want to check him.

I have a Foscam too.

-I Only have 1 camera but I think you can link multiple ones on the app.
-only the device. If they make a separate receiver I don't know about it.
-it's not annoying. I do have an audio monitor too and only pull up the video when I hear DD grunting or fussing. That way I don't drain my phone battery over night. My friend suggested this and I think it's a great idea.
-you can pan, zoom, take videos, photos, and talk through the app.

Overall I'm really happy with it.

@Truth Bombs: I actually have thought about that, but I feel the risk is low enough if we make sure to have good passwords and stuff. The odds of someone wanting to break into our camera are pretty slim. I'm more worried about the practicality and if it's going to be a huge pain to only have it on our devices.

So I'm a total worry wart but this is just something to consider: I'm not comfortable with wifi baby monitors because of the risk of having someone hack into them. I know the chances are slim but to me it wasn't worth the risk.

If you have a wifi video monitor that can be viewed from your iPhone, what do you like and dislike about it? What type do you have? (Specific recs and links are great!).

Questions I'm thinking about so far:
Can it be used with two cameras easily?
Is there a separate receiver, or only the iPhone or whatever device you use?
Is it annoying to have it on your iPhone- draining the battery, using other apps, etc.
picture only or sound and picture?
Can you pan/ move the camera remotely?
Does it interfere with other wifi devices? Our current basic video monitor cuts out all the time for no reason which is part of the reason we are getting a new one.
Range? Currently we are in a small condo but will be moving in the near future, who knows how far apart the bedrooms will be.

I'm ready to kill Dh over this so I'm just going to do the stupid research myself to at least figure out what I really want it to have or not.
