We just did four flights over 2 weekends with our 22 month old.

You can't have enough snacks!

We made sure to get a window seat, and distracted with stickers, coloring books, his favorite books, and when that failed, a tablet. A paci was great for the pressure changes, and two of our flights were at night so we put him in PJs before boarding and brought his blankie with us to encourage sleep (which he did on at least two of the flights).

You'll do great!

My very very active 17 month old did great on four flights last month! Having her at the window seat ( on my lap) helped ... There was a stranger in the aisle seat on the other side of dh which I think took away any temptation or want to go on the aisle. We just played with stickers, no mess markers, looked at the sky mall magazine a hundred times and read books. She wasn't interested in the iPad, but we had that too. Oh, and lots of snacks!! :) fingers are crossed for you!! Just plan ahead and if all else fails remember you'll never see those people again :)

you'll be fine! i wish i knew that my DD was going to get air sickness so i would have had a bib, and wipes on me at all times.... yeah, that was fun. but we were prepared on our flight back and when she did throw up again, we had it contained!

I've never done two in a row but I've done several 5-6 hour flights and it was fine! Between 18-21 months we've done 4 of these flights (2 round trips) half with her own seat and half as a lap child. 2 of those flights were even delayed, one of them once we got on the plane! ("Only" 45-60 mins) We preloaded songs and little games (paint , pop the bubbles) onto our tablet. We also picked up food at the airport and brought it on the plane.

One thing I've learned is to not overpack. Certain things it's good to have extra in case of emergency, but they can drink drinks from the airline through a straw, they can eat out, they can be entertained with random stuff on the plane and running around the airport. Lugging a ton of stuff hasn't always been worth it once we got to toddlerhood.

One flight we also got bulkhead seats and put lo on a blanket on the ground in front of us for awhile with some toys. I realize that's not buckled in.

Oh, and sometimes using a carseat on the plane just makes it so the kiddo can kick the person in front of them.

But to answer your original question YES you will get through. :)

We flew from Seattle to Dallas and Dallas to Mobil, AL when LO was 16 months and she did awesome. She was super mobile but was happy to sit in our laps the entire time. At that age she was just so interested in what was going on and looking around. She loved getting a cup of ice from the beverage cart. She liked looking through magazines. And SNACKS - lots of different kinds in little pouches so you can mix them up

@Mrs. Beemer: You will do great! We just flew with 2 under 2. My older one loved playing peek a boo with the other people on the flight and he napped a lot! We brought the iPad but ended up using my phone to stream the pbs kids app. N doesn't get to watch a lot of TV so this was a great help!!

I should add that my boys are 20 months and 4 months.

Bring the ipad and load it with videos/shows/apps. And snacks he isn't allowed at home.

We have been flying regularly with our son since 14 months old and never bought him a seat even for looooong cross country flights. He is a mover, too. and does great. I still dread flights and they are by no means relaxing but we get through them just fine.

Hello to a fellow Denverite! :) You'll be fine. There are tons of bees with success stories of longer, international flights with kids of that age. We flew from denver to washington DC when DS was 17 months. It was fine, he was just wiggly and we spent a lot of time passing him back and forth. We never bought him a seat till he was two either. It probably won't be a particularly restful or enjoyable flight but with the right preparation hopefully things will go well - and if they don't, its finite.

Of course you'll be fine! The fact that you care enough to worry about it indicates to me that you'll be as prepared as possible.

Look, no one likes a screaming kid on a plane, but as travellers and as parents, we have a right to be there just as much as anyone else. As long as you don't let bad behaviour go unchecked, people appreciate that you try to do something, even if you have no results. So don't worry!

Yes you'll be fine!
I traveled solo with DD when she was 18 months old and I was 20 weeks pregnant. She was on my lap too.

Take lots of snacks, iPad/favorite toys, crafts.

Our flight was 4 hours and 5 hours one way.

Good luck!

We'll be flying for the first time next month with our little guy - once from Denver to New Orleans and another from Denver to Maine. He'll be 18 months old. He NEVER STOPS MOVING! We didn't buy him his own seat. Will we survive? I'm looking for positive stories and the "If I could only tell her one thing it would be _______" types of comments.
