So it sounds like I'll be ok for the first trimester and the early 2nd trimester, but it'd be good to buy clothes for the 3rd trimester.... which will be the start of a new season (winter) anyway so I just plan on some maternity work pants and maternity basic Ts/tops/camis under my non-maternity open-front cardigans. Thanks for the input everyone!

@DesertDreams88: Good question! I'm 23 weeks and my maternity stash is pretty limited so I've been wearing some of my looser non-maternity clothes. What I wear isn't super tight so I'm hoping that they won't stretch out too much.

I, also, wonder if some of the non-maternity clothes I have that doesn't fit now... will ever fit again. (or will I even want to wear them?) So maybe after the babies come, I'll have to buy new clothes. I do have some clothes in my collection that is 5 years old or more. So it won't be a total loss if I can't (or won't) wear them again.

Just wanted to chime in that I wore a one piece non-maternity swimsuit to swim just 2-4 days a week and it is TOTALLY stretched out. It is ruched (sp?) on the front, from J Crew, so if you buy a suit like that and plan to wear it in pregnancy don't plan to wear it when not pregnant.

My regular clothes were fine after my first pregnancy but started to look more stretched out after I wore them throughout my second preg.

I wear a lot of non maternity tops (tank tops, tshirts, blouses) and I didn't find that they got worn out. I also buy non maternity tops in bigger sizes and wear those exclusively during pregnancy/nursing.

I wore non maternity clothes pretty much til the end, and I did find quite a lot of stuff got stretched. But I tend to buy cheap clothes, so that probably didn't help

Most of my pre-pregnancy clothes didn't get stretched out. The exception was my favorite purple shirt (sad!), but it is what it is. They were nice to have when I was newly postpartum and when I had to go back to work.

The only things I had get really stretched out were cheap clothes- like a ten dollar pair of stretchy yoga pants from target that wore to death at the end of the pregnancy. But, most of my pre preg clothes were not very fitted to begin with since I have never had the tightest and anyway.

I never really had anything that was too badly stretched from just wearing in the first/second tri. plus, if anything does stretch you'll need a few looser items post partum anyways.

In the summer I wore a lot of dresses that I already had - nothing stretched out. M was born in Dec and I still wore some regular tops I had that fall, that stretched over the bump and the clothes kept their shape.

For both of my LOs I wore most of my normal tops and dresses all the way until the end. I think only 1 sweater and 1 tee ended up getting stretched out/misshapen. I have a lot of stretchy knit clothes like tees and dresses to begin with though.

So I'm only 10 weeks but I am getting to the point where I can't "suck it in" effectively/long-term, and most people already know. I've gained about 4 pounds due to pregnancy hunger / lack of nausea, but I am pretty short so there's not a lot of room for the pounds to go. I have plenty of loose shirts that kind of disguise it but in my opinion I just end up looking fat, instead of pregnant.

I'd like to start wearing shirts that are more form-fitting so that it's a legit pregnancy bump. However, I don't necessarily want to buy any maternity clothing just yet, a teacher's summer budget is tight! Most of my pre-pregnancy shirts are a blend of cotton with some of stretch/spandex. Not skin-tight, but form-fitting. Basically, I just want to go back to wearing my normal pre-pregnancy shirts and stop trying to suck it in. However, one of my friends did that for most of her pregnancy, and afterwards she complained that all her shirts were permanently stretched out in the tummy area, and she really regretted it.

Did any of you wear your form-fitting pre-pregnancy clothes for awhile? How long do you think I could get away with it, without stretching them out?

Two pics of where I'm at currently:
