We were lucky enough to be expecting before it would become an issue, but if we weren't, I wouldn't mind a Christmas baby. :)

I was born on Christmas Day! I always got to put the Angel on the Christmas Tree because I was the birthday girl, which was special to me.

When I was little I always got a birthday present that was separate, but I seem to remember getting fewer birthday presents than my siblings who had birthdays in June and July. I also never got a bike for my birthday (we live in NY) so I was riding a bike I had long outgrown while my sister had a new 10 speed. My parents divorced when I was 11 and there were a few years where my mom forgot my birthday until the afternoon or evening. My dad always made it special and had a special birthday present. He never forgot to call on the years that we were with my mom.

As a kid, I never had birthday parties with my friends because it was so close to the holidays. I always feel obligated to tell people not to worry about my birthday because it is on Christmas and I know budgets are already stretched for the holidays.

My tips for parents of children with birthday's close to or on Christmas:
-don't forget the cake! Christmas is all about pies, and I blew out candles in apple/pumpkins pies several years.
-find a time for a birthday party with friends, even if it's not every year.
-don't forget about seasonal items that siblings might get for their summer birthdays (bikes, roller skates, camping gear, etc...)
-try to give the same number of birthday presents that you give to siblings with birthday's that aren't close to Christmas.
-Merry Birthday, Happy Christmas cards lose their appeal after age 7, at least from immediate family members.
-Same goes for presents wrapped half in b-day paper and half in Xmas paper.

My birthday is December 11, and growing up I got Happy Birthday/Merry Christmas gifts all the time. Actually, I still get gifts that are lumped together. By this time I'm more thankful for the thought than the occasion, but it's a little sad as a kid.

On the flip side, my dad's birthday is December 24/25 (depends on who you ask), and he rarely gets gifts lumped together. I think people feel bad for him and *think* his gifts are always lumped together, so they try harder not to do it.

Nope. This cycle is my first off BC pills and if I actually ovulate, I'm leaving it up to DH on if he wants to go for it or not. I told him that its in his hands because I'm ready! I doubt we'll stop next month if DH decides he's ready to start TTC.

I don't want a Christmas baby, but I'm not going to prevent it. If I get preg in March, I would be overjoyed no matter what!

My brother was born on Christmas, and he doesn't seem to mind, although I would personally hate it.

One thing to consider - you never know if your baby is going to come on time! My sister's first was due February 2.....and decided to show up 6 weeks early on December 27. So much for planning!

When we TTC, we didn't try to avoid any months. It ended up taking a while, so we just figured we would get what we got.

Good luck ; )

I just have to ask one question to those that want to avoid a December birthday...if you purposely avoided TTCing in the month that would result in a December birthday and that turns out it was the only month you would have been successful, does it change your answer?

I only ask because the one thing I would have liked to avoid was a December birthday, but time wasn't on my side WRT to conceiving (I am turning 37 this summer). So we just went for it and my son was born in December of 2010. Does it suck that he only gets presents once a year? No, because we buy what we want all year long. I have an August birthday and it sucked because everyone was on summer vacation. So, every month has it's pros and cons.

Sorry, I hope this thread doesn't offend anyone. One of the threads I read here had a bunch of responses with members saying they were going to avoid having a Christmas baby. This thread was just meant to see how many of us there were. I hope I don't come off as being insensitive to those of you who have been TTC for a while.

Our LO was born this past December 26th. I'm happy to just have a healthy baby, so I don't care that she is a Christmas baby. We will make her birthdays special so she doesn't feel overshadowed by Christmas.

Nope. It'd be inconvenient, but having a baby overrules that inconvenience by a long shot. My mom has a Dec. 23rd birthday, and we've always made it a point to make her birthday special.

I"m a new year's eve baby and I never really minded...if anything, it just meant that the whole two weeks before new year's eve felt like one big birthday celebration :) I certainly won't be putting TTC on hold to avoid any sort of potential due date.

My baby boy was born on dec. 16! It never occurred to us to avoid a Christmas due date, and by the time we got our BFP, after 17 mos of trying, we were just happy and didn't care that the due date was Dec 22. If you have been trying for a while, I would echo others, and say, take a BFP when you can get one! I think it takes some effort from parents to make sure the birthday is separate from holiday festivities, whether that's an early/late party or celebrating the half birthday instead, I've heard of both.

I can say that it was really exhausting for me to deliver around the holidays, toting a baby around to the celebrations we were still expected to attend is tiring, friends and family are already off work and we had lots more visitors because of that, and lots of people were in from out of town. I love Christmas but don't feel like I really got to enjoy it this year. But, would I have chosen to postpone this perfect little guy joining our lives? No way!!

We will be avoiding a Christmas baby. I was born on Dec. 28, and it sucked growing up. People always forgot about my birthday (even my own parents, once), and if they did remember they would give me one present "for both". I hated it with a passion, so much that I wanted to celebrate my half birthday instead.
So yes, we'll be avoiding late November through late January due dates.

16th isn't too bad. DH is the 29th and his birthday, as an adult, in his family is always just a postscript to xmas and everyone is scrambling to gethim presents last minute. His niece is the 24th, and her mum had her birthday party a week early last yr to help her separate the two in her head - she's only 6 and couldn't remember her parties cos they got subsumed by christmas stuff.

We won't be changing TTC plans. I will take a BFP whenever I can get one. We also have a few of our nieces and nephews born within 2 weeks of Christmas and I don't think anyone has ever tried to palm them off with a combined present/celebration.

My brother is Dec 6, and my Dad is Dec 28. My Dad more often got "lumped" than my brother did, but that was more so because his sister was born the day before him (he is one of 4). He didn't get as big a deal because of that - not really because of Christmas. As long as I can remember, we always had separate birthday parties/celebrations for my brother and my Dad.

ETA - my mom always had great birthday party ideas for my brother, too! basic indoor things such as bowling, but when they were at our house, she'd do holiday type things (when he was younger) such as cookie decorating, ornament making, etc.

My husband doesn't want a christmas baby. I sorta don't but seeing when my tentative DD will be, it looks like our DD for my next cycle will be early December. I'm thinking if I'm two weeks late, our baby will be born around Dec 16th ish. Which might be far enough away from Christmas. So I just need to convince my husband.

Anyone born in early December? Did you get lumped into Christmas?

Will you be skipping this or next month to avoid a Christmas baby?
