I would consider it, assuming she wants one. But it would be a major gift! One of the kids I nannied for has like 5 of them... it was kinda overkill, IMO. I had a Bitty Baby and later an American Girl doll when I was young and they were BIG gifts and I loved them. I still have them packed away :)

@Mamaof2: I still have two dolls from my childhood. But if I didn't, I would still buy a future DD an AG doll.

Probably not. Probably mostly because we're Canadian lol. I did hear they were bringing American girl dolls here soon. Seems weird to buy my daughter a doll with American in the name when we're Canadian and she wouldn't be an "American girl".

I'd have to see if our daughter wanted one and how badly. I personally was never attached to a certain toy or doll growing up - I was way more into books - so its hard to imagine wanting a doll that badly. I guess if my daughter really, really wanted one and I was convinced she'd play with it for a long time, I might consider it for a special occasion, like Christmas, or birthday, or for straight A's or something. DH wouldn't have a problem with it at all.

On an added note, I always see these dolls on Craigslist. My friend got a retired doll that matches her daughter's name that way. Usually its not really that much cheaper than new, but its usually a big lot of things like clothes and accessories included for $150.

My mom will. My sister and I begged her to buy us each one when we were little but she couldn't afford it. She bought my niece one and said she will buy my daughter one if we ever have a daughter. I guess she wants to make up for not being able to buy us one.

No, but only because I know my MIL will be buying them their dolls. She has bought one for all her granddaughters (there are 4 other granddaughters), so I'm assuming she will for our daughters.

Yes, we will get one or two for our DD.

My husband was not all that pleased the other day when I ordered one for his God-daughter. Tax and shipping adds up fast. Initially I wanted to get one with ears pierced, but my husband vetoed the add-on. She's still adorable and has a track suit to change into, which is the same sport his God-daughter participates in.

I already bought her one :D

A friend's teenager was raising $$ for a school trip and selling her Josephine doll, so I bought it along with her dance trunk and a bunch of clothes and accessories. They are all like new, still in their boxes. I don't plan to give it to LO until she's 4-5, maybe older. I do plan to buy her more dolls.

If she really wants one in the future, I would buy one for her birthday or Christmas.. But at age 5 she's still not interested... And we have been to the store several times.. I hear it's ideal for 7 and up.. That way you can also enjoy the books and the dolls together..

@twodoghouse: The one I bought is one of the historical dolls & I also bought the book series (they're already on the bookshelves in her nursery). I can't wait to read them with her...haha I am irrationally excited about this AG doll!

@MamaMoose: I think they're already worth a lot of $$$ on Ebay. DH wants to keep it in the box and sell it in 10 years but I said no way!

Yes but only one of the historical ones and only as a reward for reading all of the books about that girl. That was my parents' rule for my sisters and me when we were young. As a result I have a few of the dolls I can pass on to her and I'm hoping that might suffice. :)

I doubt it-- they're so expensive to me and I wouldn't want to spend $100 on a toy. That being said, my MIL (like @rattles) bought C a Bitty Baby when she went to Chicago and was window shopping (and happened to be by the AG Store). I didn't realize it was an $80 baby doll until way later! So I have a feeling MIL would buy her one when she's older... but if she didn't, we wouldn't.

They are crazy expensive but if I have a daughter who shows interest in dolls I probably will. About half of the girls I have nannied for have adored them and it is so much fun picking out accessories with them and visiting the store for special occasions. The other half either had zero interest in dolls or just never took to the AG dolls.
