I'm trying to raise my daughter the same way - in general deemphasizing the importance of material things. When she's old enough to demand this toy or that, we'll figure it out. I don't ever want her to feel like I don't care about what she wants, but I want her to know that toys aren't the most important things in the world. Any toys I had were a few gifts my uncles and grandma would buy for me. Anyhow, it seems more subversive when it's a boy instead of a girl I guess. Plus he says it's his mommy, LOL.
