It's at the bottom of the stairs and our daughter loves to pick out the "ornament" for each day. Well we caved and bought her a chocolate calendar. So far we've only let her have one chocolate which she LOVED and immediately asked for more. My son opens it, is excited for a minute, and then abandons the train to do something else. Originally I think they were mostly chocolate-based but now you can get them with all sorts of things. I get a tea calendar every year. You can buy them pre-made or a reusable one that you can put your own candy or toys into. We do the same sort of thing with a regular nativity. Our set has a bunch of little pieces, so I get out one or two items at a time (as long as I remember to get them out of the closet!), culminating with Jesus on Christmas Eve.
