In my experience, it's been more for celebrating the mom and baby but people bring gifts too. I love the idea of a Book shower for baby #2. We won't be having a shower this time around because we live across the country. I won't bring it up, though, and won't ask for one. We already have everything we need gear-wise, and I guess I'm just a stickler for old-fashioned etiquette. When I've told people here that's not how we typically do it in the US it's been blank in incredulous looks all around. So in a word, yes. I had two showers for my second baby! It wasn't rescheduled. I think every baby should be celebrated, just maybe no gifts at a second or third shower. I was sad about no shower for DS when I got to that page in his baby book!
