Ain't nobody got time for that! :silly: We'll have 1 until she gets older, and then yeah, we will probably do a small, family-only party (and by party I mean dinner & cake!), and then a bigger one where she can have all her friends.

I will only host one party. If MIL or my mom want to have us over to celebrate the kids' birthday with their side of the family I won't have a problem with that!

Friends party = only party.

I don't have the time, money or energy to do multiple birthday parties!

we invited local friends and family to our house the day of her birthday for dinner and cake. Simple and easy. we have a birthday part scheduled on sunday for her party party.

@loveisstrange: I agree! once we started having friends parties, that's the only party we got! we'll probably do the same for our kids.

@loveisstrange: for the most part, that's how it was when I was little too. We had larger parties at age 10 (double-digits!), and 16!

As a kid, I only had a party for one birthday (at McDonald's). All the other birthdays were just immediate family. I'd like to do a little more than that, but I don't see the need for there to be a party every year, even if it's a family party (including cousins/grandparents/etc.) As to whether I would combine family & friends, I guess it just depends on how old the kids are & how many people we invited.

We had family parties when we were younger and then when were were school-age, it was just friend parties.

It seems a little excessive to have 2, to me.

I plan on just having one. I might do something special with just me, DH, and the kiddo on his actual bday should it fall on a different day than the party.

Say you want to have a party for your LO at a fun kids place like museum, playspace, etc - do you invite everyone (family, friends) or do you have a separate family party?

We always had separate friends/family parties as kids. And the family party was usually just immediate family - not extended. but I would have a separate party for me and my friends.

But I'm not sure how I'll do it. When we get to the point where J invites his friends - that will be bigger than our 900 sq ft apt can hold. But I don't think I want to deal with two separate parties.
