For sure. I don't want him to be part of the obesity epidemic.

Most definitely! We will have all electronics, phones, etc. locked away in the den after a certain time and will limit access to it between end of school to bed time.

My brother and I used to have sign in sheets for the computer when we were growing up!

I don't know how to, but I will limit it. I spend all day on a computer and it's not good for my eyesight or posture. I want my children to play outside, not play computer games instead of getting fresh air! Too much computer time is just as bad as too much tv time.

I realize that computers are part of our world now, but it can also become problematic, where they need 24/7 stimulation.

No. My husband is a computer whiz and the only thing he resents from his teenage years is being limited on the computer. He feels it stunted his ability to learn everything he wanted to learn to get in to the best schools, etc. If my kid shows great interest in computers and tech, I want to nurture that, not stifle it.

I guess it depends on what they're doing on the Internet. I wouldn't want them playing games for hours or watching random YouTube videos. As long as they're getting plenty of physical activity and not doing something mindless then I don't know how much I would limit.

My BFF has a 10 year old daughter who is brilliant, loves the outdoors and sports, and has great social skills. She's an all-around amazing child. When I went to visit them in the summer, she would be on her computer all.day.long making a slideshow about Olympic gymnasts. Her parents encouraged her to go outside and do stuff...and she would...but she was attached to her computer. She also writes stories on the computer and researches things to no end. That kind of stuff I wouldn't put a limit on.

Oh He11 yes!! Right now I try to limit screen time. I have been letting DS watch a few minutes on my iPhone so we can do his night time diaper without an all out war, but he usually hits the home button and I just pretend it's over. I am trying hard to keep the TV off in the background while DS is awake.

DS is too young for the internet right now, but there will be no Facebook (or whatever replaces it), no posting pictures, etc, and I will be installing some sort of monitoring software. He can have a laptop once it's necessary for school (which I'll be monitoring closely) or once he can save up to buy his own.

Once it seems necessary, I'll get a basic cell phone (non-texting/data if they exist in the future) that is just for phone calls to us to coordinate pickups from activities and friends. DS will get it when he leaves us, and give it back once he's back home. DS can get a cell phone for his own use once he is older, had good grades, and contributes in some way (using part of his allowance for the bill, or doing extra chores).

We'll also be limiting all video games. He can get them when he has a job and can buy them for himself.

Hopefully by focusing on family time, being active, and teaching him responsibility and honesty at a young age, we will be able to trust him much more when he's a teenager.

OH yes. Friends of mine who have older children give each child their own internet code. They have to log into the computer with their code and when their allotted time is up, the internet stops working. I love this idea and plan on implementing it myself.

We will have limits but not sure what.

My SIL has a no video games rule during the school week. She said it just turned into too many arguments on school nights and school mornings so they had to give it up. Plus, its a nice activity for the kids on the weekends.

Heck yes. And all internet usage will be very closely monitored. My kids won't be allowed to have computers in their rooms, only in the family room where I can keep an eye on them. I feel bad doing that since I had a computer in my room growing up.... but there are a lot more creeps out there these days.

Yes, all screen time will be limited. I don't know how much time our kids will have anyhow, school until 3, daycare until 5:30 (where hopefully some homework will get done) once home, there is dinner, cleanup/chores, any leftover homework then fun time. Who wants to spend all their fun time on the computer?

I don't know.... I think we'll just play it by ear and see how much she wants to be on. Hopefully we'll just encourage her to go outside, do arts and crafts, play games, etc. so she won't want to be online all the time and we won't have to worry about it.

I don't have kids yet, but I definitely want to limit their computer/internet time.

When internet first came out, my brother and I were each allowed an hour a day on the internet. We had one family computer, so we had to take turns on it. I want to say I was in middle school at the time.

I know later in high school, this restriction was lifted, but I don't remember exactly when it happened. Maybe my mom will remember.

I didn't have my own computer until I was a senior in high school and I bought it myself. I think I will do the same with my kids - have a family computer that they can use and only allow them to have their own computer once they can afford it themselves (and not until high school at least).

I think nowadays with everything being online, I think I will want to limit computer and internet time.

I don't know how much, though.

If you have kids, do you limit it now?
