If we still live locally it will depend on dd. districts here have two kindergarten cutoff options. Depending on district she will either be 4y11m or 5y11m when she starts kindergarten. We are considering private options. My husband would like to move because of the types if people she would potentially exposed to. I went to the school district the currently in (all 12 years) and that's not my main concern. Its embarrassing how little effort I was able to put in and still pass AP classes with a's and b's (I flat out wouldn't turn in assignments sometimes!) and I want LO to have a better opportunity at her education than that. I'd be fine with preK in our zoned school but not beyond that. We rent though, and are planning to buy (therefore move) about 2 months into preK anyway!</p> <p> ETA: our school situation is frustrating, and I think it has the potential to change via rezoning to create two wonderful and diverse schools. We're in an ok district for elementary school, but I don't like the middle school. We are going to move to one of two other elementary districts. They feed to different high schools, but either is fine, but they both feed the same middle school. One is the district I grew up in, but the other is excellent as well. We live in the city, schools are unpredictable (as in, you don't even know which school you will get). But we probably also won't be able to afford the kind of space we will want longer term.
