I had asked my parents a few times and my mom always said 12. I didn't really like it and I let the holes close up by the time I was 14. I'm 31 and still don't have pierced ears. I just don't like earrings myself. I think we got them when we were 13 or so, but I begged for years beforehand.</p> <p>We are waiting for now, but it isn't part of our culture to have pierced ears. If I lived in certain places/had certain cultural traditions where it was the norm (Mexico, the Middle East, etc), we very likely would. I'm not opposed to it, especially because ear holes can close up, but I'm not in a rush, either. I got mine pierced at 11, and I feel like that was a good age for me. It was a special outing with my mom, I had fun picking out earrings, I was old enough to understand that it was permanent.
