@Corduroy: Yes I watched a little of Goodbye Christopher Robin a little on the plane too, yes that is a totally different movie, it was more of a documentary of the author (Christopher Robin's dad) and his journey of writing the book about Winnie The Pooh. That one is definitely for grown ups not for children. The new movie in the theatre is a different one, which it explores the continuation of the story of Winnie the Pooh -- what happens after Christopher Robin grows up and how he revisits with his "friends" (pooh et al).

@hellobeeboston: Ahh. Good to know but I guess I'll have to wait this one out just in case . I have a feeling it will be fine too, but who knows.... I also am dying to see it!! Ah well.

@Corduroy: I read about this movie.... my DH said this new one isn’t like that, but it is sad for parents. It’s very sweet he said.

@irene: my husband took my 5yo to see it with his parents and sister. My husband and father in law said they cried more than they thought they would!!!! My son didn’t, which was surprising because he heard a lovey song today and cried! They both liked it! I want to see it soon, but my little guy is too young to see it.

I wanted to take my 5 yo to see it but then I saw “Goodbye Christopher Robin” on HBO Go. I thought it was the same movie and watched it waiting for the cute characters. Nope. From a review “the film deals with heavy themes and subject matter (post-traumatic stress, war and peace, wartime death, marital strain, tension between parents and full-time caregivers, etc.) that are too mature for little ones. You'll also see flashbacks to Milne's time in WWI (including scenes of men dead, injured, and dying in trenches, shots whizzing by, etc.), and he shuts down or becomes aggressive during moments when he's triggered and remembers the war. He even lashes out physically (though unintentionally) at his young son.” DH was shocked to walk in on me watching a period British war movie - not my genre. Obviously I didn’t have my kids watching with me but it made me decide I didn’t need to see the other Christopher Robin movie.

@Purpledaisy: thanks for the reassurance, that’s what I thought but i wasnt sure! I was reading mixed reviews/opinions so this is good to know. Gah. Bummer for me :meh:

@looch: ha, DS liked the stories. I ditched the idea of going to watch the movie until this morning i saw him reading the book in his room quietly. He watched the trailers and was interested to watch it. And he insisted that Winnie the Pooh and other dolls must be real because they were on the screen. (He also thought Mary poppins was real)

My 5 year old DD saw it with DH and she's didn't like it. I think she thought it was boring/weird. Her 5 year old cousin was there too and I guess he cried at that end. So it might not be a good choice for sensitive kids.

My son and I were watching TV and the ad came on for it and I asked my son if he wanted to go and he said no. He knows the story of Pooh and he's seen movies with actors as opposed to animated, but I don't think he's connected with the main character.

We love Winnie the Pooh and we are currently reading the book together. I am dying to go to the theater to watch the Christopher Robin movie with DH and DS (6.5 yo) but am also concerned the movie is probably one of those productions for grown ups (or at least older kids).

DS has not watched the Winnie the Pooh cartoons (unsure if he had watched it at school or camp though), but he had seen a Winnie the Pooh theatre production while he was doing summer camp, and we are reading the book. So he knows most of the stories and characters. However, he has yet to really watch and finish a real movie in the movie theater.... the last time he went 2 years ago it was traumatic. We were watching finding dory and he had to leave halfway because he was traumatized dory couldn’t find her parents and he cried as if I died. Gosh. But that was 2 years ago.

Thoughts and advice? Thanks!!!
