DD is just shy of six months now, so we won't be doing anything anytime soon. But eventually, yes, it is a habit we will try to break.

Our middle is a thumb-sucker at 22 months and I honestly want to leave it since she only does it when she's tired/sleeping but DH wants to try to force her to quit (ironically he was totally unconcerned with DD1's total pacifier addiction until she was 2). She's still such a baby in my eyes!

J sucks his thumb and was very upset when the dentist asked him if he could stop. He kept asking me about it crying.
He only sucks his thumb when he's tired and/or going to bed and his teeth/palate/bite were fine.
I'm not going to force it. DH was a thumb sucker until he was 8/9, straight teeth, never had braces. I also have straight teeth, never had braces.

My son is 22 months and constantly has two fingers in his mouth. It kind of stresses me out thinking down the line to having to wean him off it but right now it's his soothing mechanism and he's still so young that I'm not going to worry about it. Talk to me again in a year and I may have a different story.

DD1 is 2y10m and still sucks her fingers. The dentists we've seen say 4-5 for trying to stop so I'm not gonna worry about it until then. They also haven't said her bite is effected so I'm not worried yet.

My older one is 4 and still does it to fall asleep at night. I don't love it and would like her to stop but don't know how to make her. Don't want to do anything really punishing, so I voted no.

My baby is only 8 months, it's her comfort thing for now I will leave it be. BUT I don't think I will let her be 2-3 years old still sucking her thumb. I was against pacifiers for this reason but luckily I'm not there yet!

My kids are/were paci users, and I somewhat forced it because I totally jacked up my mouth sucking my finger in a crook as a kid. I remember my parents trying to get me to quit when I was at least 7 and still doing it without noticing. I needed orthodontia and speech therapy as a result, so I totally would try to get my kid to quit when younger if I could so they wouldn't have those hassles done the road.

Your husband needs to discuss it with her or you?

I've mentioned this in other threads but right now i'm holding off on it. The dentist has not mentioned any issues with her bite, and she no longer sucks her fingers during the day. I have a ton of night/anxiety/sleep issues i'm dealing with, so i feel like that's the last thing i should worry about right now.

No, I wouldn't. DS doesn't currently suck his thumb, but regardless I wouldn't make him stop. I sucked my thumb as a kid and all of my parents' efforts to make me stop just made me hide it. Yes, I needed braces but there was no way I was going to not need braces anyways. I eventually stopped on my own.
