He kept asking me about it crying.<br /> He only sucks his thumb when he's tired and/or going to bed and his teeth/palate/bite were fine.<br /> I'm not going to force it. DH was a thumb sucker until he was 8/9, straight teeth, never had braces. It kind of stresses me out thinking down the line to having to wean him off it but right now it's his soothing mechanism and he's still so young that I'm not going to worry about it. The dentists we've seen say 4-5 for trying to stop so I'm not gonna worry about it until then. I remember my parents trying to get me to quit when I was at least 7 and still doing it without noticing. The dentist has not mentioned any issues with her bite, and she no longer sucks her fingers during the day. DS doesn't currently suck his thumb, but regardless I wouldn't make him stop. I sucked my thumb as a kid and all of my parents' efforts to make me stop just made me hide it. Yes, I needed braces but there was no way I was going to not need braces anyways.
