I want them to have their own space to retreat too, but I'd try not to let them cave themselves inside except to sleep and study or have a little alone time. I shared a room until I was 17 as did my husband. They currently share a room because our basement isn't developed and we don't have the room for a second bedroom (which we're currently about to renovate). Bedtimes right now are a bit of a nightmare because they cannot go to bed at the same time or else they keep each other up. We have to make sure the youngest is asleep before we send the eldest to bed, which can sometimes take longer than we would like. If they're different genders, it would depend on how far apart they are. We have talked about having 4 years in between kids, so if that's the case, then I wouldn't really want my 4 year old to be in the same room as a newborn. For sisters, it's totally fine though.
