The are two kids on our block and two more within two blocks that we already know plus a whole bunch who will be the grade ahead of her (her birthday is right after the cutoff so most of her friends are a grade up.) Her parents decided to build a house right down the road from us. She doesn't go to daycare and there aren't a lot of 3 year olds in our neighborhood so I am so excited that they chose that development to build in hahaha. He doesn't start till next year (Aug 2018). The kids are in a daycare right now that we've (generally) loved and they are very very happy and D has lots of friends. Our daycare offers private K, but it's expensive (costs as much as having a newborn in daycare) and we're really looking forward to our costs dropping. Our public system is wonderful, but the problem is that our daycare doesn't bus to the elementary school that we're districted to based on where we live. We knew this when we started sending them there, but we figured we'd just intradistrict transfer them. But our school district announced this year that they're no longer allowing intradistrict transfers for childcare reasons (says exactly that right on the front page of the SD website). I've spoken to the director of the daycare and they would actually happily provide transportation to our elementary school if there were more than one family that needed it. They can't justify the cost of it for just one child, which we completely understand. So I have to start asking around somehow to see if any other parents are in our predicament. Or we have to change daycares. D has a rough time with transitions and change, so if we had to change daycares, we'd want to do it relatively soon so that he'd have time to adjust and make some friends.
