Dd1- yes! She will try anything once (and turns out she likes shrimp, oysters, clams, crab, sushi...what?!?!?).

Dd2- nope. She has about 15-20 things she likes to eat and that's about it. She won't even consider trying a bite of something new.

T is 12 mo and will eat anything. She was ticked at me when I gave her salsa because of the jalapeño I think and refused to eat anything else that morning.

My son is 18 months and its a crap shoot. He usually eats any kind of fruit whether he's seen it before or not - how he knows its fruit, I don't know, maybe because its cold? With anything cooked, he either ignores it, tests the texture out in his hand (i.e. mashing it with his fingers), and if we're lucky, he'll take a tiny tentative nip. If he puts something in his mouth and he doesn't like it, he immediately says BLAHHHH and starts clawing it out of his mouth.

@Anagram: I totally agree that the hungrier she is the more likely she is to try new foods. I make a point of giving her new things when she is hungrier or didn't have a snack.

It's a crapshot.

Last week he ate octopus and loved it. The next day he refused to eat chicken. So.

It sounds mean, but I find LO is more into new foods when she is really super hungry, so I will try to skip afternoon snack before giving her something unfamiliar. And that helps.

Depends on the food. LO1 is 50/50 on new foods. It helps if she makes it with me. We made a dairy free chicken pot pie last night that we've never had before and she ate it right up, even though it had peas, lima beans, corn, and green beans in it and lately she isn't into green beans or limas. She didn't like the crust much, but she ate all the filling.

My 3.5 year old will if she's in the right mood- but even if she does, she usually has a preconceived notion she won't like it, and will spit it out. We just keep offering food and she doesn't have to try if she doesn't want to.

NO.

My 3 year old won't try anything new without a fight. It's sooooo annoying.

i hope my younger son is a less picky eater!

"You gotta try new foods cause they might taste good!"

Yeah I sing that a lot. It's probably 50/50 if she will try it, and if she tries it, 50/50 that she will spit it out. Or she has started doing the thing where you lick one little piece of it. I'm choosing not to make it a battle and as long as she licks it, whatever.

We are struggling with this right now. My older LO knows the rule that he has to try new foods, but it's pretty rare that he eats more than a bite. My younger one fussed for 15 minutes at dinner last night before trying the new food that I prepared. She finally took a bite, said she liked it, but then didn't eat any more. :silly:

DD2 is 18 months and will try everything we put in front of her! LOL But, if she doesn't like it she will immediately spit it back out and that's it on that item for the rest of the meal.

DD1 (almost 4) used to be that way, but in the last 6 months or so she has gotten more apprehensive about trying new foods. Generally we have to coax her and we always say if you don't like it, you can spit it back out! 9/10x she will try it and I'll say 75% of the time she ends up loving it.
