We have been going to Christmas at my parent's house and then go to DH's parents house for a few days after - both are more than a 6 hour drive from us (and 4 hours from each other) so we usually fly.

Since I am due on December 26th, we are not going anywhere for Christmas this year! I am sad since this is the first time I won't be with my family for Christmas - I will especially miss hanging out with my sisters and brother since it is usually the only time of year we are all together. But I am also excited to start new traditions for our little family as DH and I want to be home for Christmas with our kids. Next year we'll have to figure out what to do... right now I am leaning towards doing Christmas here and then visiting family in the week between Christmas and New Years.

We do get to go to our normal Thanksgiving place since we have been going to my Aunt's house about 30 minutes from us! I am looking forward to spending that day with family.

We usually go to DH's parents' house in Colorado for Thanksgiving every year. I'm due in December, so we won't be going this year....not that I'm complaining! I can only deal with my MIL in VERY small doses.

We usually host Thanksgiving and will not be this year (I'm due 11/18)... we probably won't even do a thanksgiving dinner of any sort, maybe with our parents?

Christmas, we'll still spend with our parents and my brother, but we probably will skip the up north trip we make to see DH's extended family, just because LO will be so young and I don't want him to be around a bunch of people at once...

i'll be 37 weeks on christmas and plan on all the usual things with both sides of the family, except DH and i are taking our babymoon to palm springs (2 hours from our parents/holiday celebrations and 2 hours from our house) the day after christmas to have a couple last days on our own. it's also the ONLY time he has off from school until april, so we're definitely going to be super protective of our time together! other than that, should be holidays as usual.

i'm only cooking one baby, so it's a little different, but i'm nearly 25 weeks, and i'd definitely feel comfortable going now. i should add that i do have a high chance of early labor as well, but i feel like 25 weeks is still pretty early to be thinking about that. 6 hours in a car is a long way, so you'll need to stop to stretch and pee A LOT. once babies come everything will be completely different, so i think it would be nice to enjoy this last baby-less holiday away with family. i think asking your ob when the time gets closer is a great idea too.

i'm so glad that all of our family lives within a 10 minute drive of our house. i'll be 33 weeks on christmas & i wouldn't be going anywhere!

@Mrs. Blue: definitely plan on lots of resting! Everyone is different, of course, but my big pain lately is my feet. I can only stand on them for very short periods of time. And walking more than like 10 minutes is a no-go, I start to have pressure build on the underside of my belly and have to rest.

@sunshineandsushi: Thanks for the input. It's so hard to guage how I'll be feeling by a certain point since I know I'm likely to be more uncomfortable/closer to labor than with a singleton. Knowing you're starting to get uncomfy gives me some insight to at least plan for lots of resting around the travel days!

@Mrs. High Heels: I think the big concern for my dr. is just that my type of twins are full term at 34-36 weeks and many come far earlier than that without much warning. If there were no other factors/not twins, I definitely wouldn't balk at traveling that early! Have fun in Vegas!

I totally understand! I'm 26 weeks now with twins and I've basically put a hold on any travel outside of my city because I don't want to be caught far away from my OB and hospital.

I flew for the last time at 22 weeks and I think it was the perfect time for my last flight. Since then, I've definitely gotten increasingly uncomfortable. :( Just last weekend I drove 2.5 hours to attend a friend's baby shower, and while everything was fine, I definitely felt a little strange about being even that far away. Also, when I got home that day, I was EXHAUSTED and generally didn't feel great for the rest of the day, even though I stopped to rest and stretch my legs both there and back.

Definitely wait and see how you feel leading up to it. That's how I approached each trip I took. If I hadn't felt well the day before or of, I had no qualms about cancelling them to be safe.

During my last pregnancy I didn't think twice about flying and went on a few different trips (last one at 31 weeks or so). This time I am going to be a little more careful because I am pregnant in the winter and have an LO to take care of- I don't want to risk getting sick. But, that said, we will still probably fly in Dec/Jan so I will be in the 27-32 week range. Since you don't need to book flights I would just wait until the last minute to decide.

@Mrs. Blue - we are taking a 4-hour trip to Vegas for 3-days when I'll be at 35 weeks. I would have no problem doing a roadtrip at 25 weeks if I was having a healthy pregnancy so far with no major complications.

I will be 35 weeks at Christmas. We're playing it by ear if we'll go to my parents (2.5 hr away) or not. my mom actually volunteered to me pretty early that she didn't expect me to come home for Christmas. I was shocked.

We also have a possible trip to NYC 2 weeks before that...trying to figure that one out too.

Yes. I'm due January 7th. So we had to scrap our plans to visit my family for Christmas even though they are only two hours away. Nearest hospital with OB is an hour back toward home. So the doc has said no. I may go home for Thanksgiving if things continue to look well. I just hope I'm not in the hospital for Christmas.

Nope, I will be 28 for Christmas but we just have a 4 hour car ride. Which will probably take longer cause I will have to pee every hour. Then we are going away for the weekend through New Years with friends but again that is just a 4 hour car ride. Hopefully our friends won't care that I am stopping to pee so much.

I asked my OB about traveling for Thanksgiving, and she looked at the calendar (actually, a little wheel-spinny thing she apparently keeps in her pocket), and said I'd be about 28 weeks over Thanksgiving weekend, and that as long as I continue to have a healthy pregnancy, there's no reason I couldn't get on a plane (just not overseas) and enjoy the holiday--as long as I walk around a few times on the plane. I am trusting her expertise and we bought our tickets!

Early in the year we had planned to go to my dad and step-mom's house in Phoenix for Thanksgiving but once we found out we were having twins we had to nix that plan since I would be too far along for my doctor to allow me to travel by plane.

This past weekend my DH and I took a 4 hour drive up to Whistler for our babymoon. I had a doctor's appointment on the 12th and asked my OB if she thought it would still be a good idea to make the trip. She said that everything looked good with the babies and my cervix looked long and closed so she was OK with me going. She just said to take it nice and easy once we got there and just relax and not do anything too strenuous.

I would suggest holding off on making a decision until you are closer to Christmas and check in with your OB at the last appointment before the trip to see how you and the babies are doing.

We were planning on visiting Paris for Christmas.
Luckily I found out about my pregnancy back in April and hadn't bought our tickets yet.
So although it was a disappointment, it didn't put us out too much.

My grandfather passed away during my second trimester, and I didn't want to risk an overseas flight to attend the funeral. That made me very sad.
