I have the Willow Tree nativity set which I love. I can't stand knick knacks but SIL got us a mom and dad with baby figurine and it sits on our mantle. I say go for it!

I don't like knick knacks but I have a soft spot for Willow Tree. The design is just so clean and expressive. I've had a sentimental mother and daughter and another wife and husband one. LO likes to play with them too. So WT is definitively my worthwhile exception to the rule.

I don't like them. DH got one from his mom after LO was born (it's just a man with a baby...not sure why she didn't get one with woman too) and it's collecting dust somewhere out of sight. It it had been a gift for me, I would have gotten rid of it already. I'm not a fan of knick knacks though.

Honestly, I'd put it in the donation pile, just because it's not my style, but especially if I knew I'd have to pack for a transcontinental move in the near future. I am just not sentimental in that way.

I love it! I secretly wish DH would get me a Williw Tree figurine :silly:

That being said...I think it is a very nice idea, perfect touch given that you are hosting but would still like to give her something. I just think it's so sweet and says so much, creates so much feeling without any words.

But then again, my friends have always accused me of being the "grandma" type

@deerylou: I have two on my mantle. One was gifted as a wedding present and two were gifted following one of my miscarriages. As long as I don't have a collection of 20 of them, they're just a personal thing for us

I appreciate the feedback! I personally tend to avoid knickknacks and don't usually gift them to others. Said friend is only here for a few years before her family returns to Europe; I thought it might be nice to have something to honor her as a mom of two, as well as commemorate a friendship, in the US. I'm leaning towards ordering it, but we'll see. :-)

I don't have a single knick knack. My mom had a zillion growing up and they (she and her husband) made me meticulously dust them. Every Saturday. All day. Anyhow.
