@sapphire: yeah, going to see what we need blinds wise. It's going to be blinds for sure in kids rooms and maybe living room, then curtains in the others. Currently, it has those long plastic ones which I hate. The decor needs major, but easy updating.

@cascademom: it's a bit overwhelming to need window treatments for a whole house! We had the option to have wood blinds installed for a package price and they would have been in place by move in, but I didn't want the same blinds in every single window.

Following this. We just had our offer accepted on a house. It needs some blinds and curtain love. Good to know about these companies when I outfit the place with blinds in most of rooms except the master bedroom (has plantation shutters).

Thanks so much for the advice! I'm starting with ordering samples from Select Blinds.

We've purchased twice from Budget Blinds and had great experiences both times.

Old house: real wood shutters and fabric blinds (not sure what exactly they are called, they roll down and are blackout curtains, but like blinds not curtains)

Current house: We've got faux wood white plantation shutters downstairs and a combo of fabric and regular roman blinds upstairs.

We used selectblinds.com like @MenagerieMama: and really love them. We did 2.5 inch faux wood in white and did 15 windows for about $600-$700. They always do buy 3 get 1 free + 35% off (and sometimes another 10% on top of that). You can only do the buy 3 get 1 free to one address, so we ended up sending some to our in-laws and DH's aunt! haha

The blinds are very nice - we ordered color samples before ordering the blinds and the white were exactly what i wanted even for the most entry level option. If you want a "wood" color, you'll have to go to a higher level option, because the wood grain looks pretty fake. BUT, if you're doing white, get the cheapest ones (i was planning on getting nicer ones until i got the samples and am really very happy with the cheapest!)

The only problem we had with the order was one of our valances (that went over 3 windows) was about an inch too short. When i called them about it they sent a whole new valance that was the proper size and we didn't even have to bother returning the old one (packing that would have been a pain).

Overall very happy!

We were going to go with a company because we needed our whole house done, but DH ended up finding really affordable faux wood blinds at home depot that they cut to order and he installed them himself.

He's not particularly handy, so it must be a fairly easy process.

Budget Blinds- I purchased plantation shutters from them and looked into getting other window coverings. My experience was okay. The BB operator in my area was new. His installer knew more about how the shutters would hold up over time (synthetic vs wood). For the shutters I knew exactly what I wanted, but opted not to use BB for the other treatments because I needed more guidance and he just wasn't able to help. The price was great.

JC Penney- I purchased drapes from them and customer service was great. I picked awful fabric initially and plus it was cut wrong. Selecting new fabric and swithing everything out went smoothly. Choosing fabric was hard even though the design expert was helpful. Looking at a small swatch is way different once 11 ft panels are hung up.

EcoShades- I don't know if this company is national, but we are very happy with how our family room turned out.

We are having this done in a couple of weeks. We need blinds for our whole house, I think it's 22 windows or something ridiculous. We chose faux wood blinds. We met with Budget Blinds and it seemed like a good option but in the end went with a local company that was significantly less expensive for the same quality product and service. So it is probably worth shopping around a little bit even though it's more effort having a few people walk around your whole house measuring.

We bought them online from select blinds and DH installed them (he said it was super easy). We did the honeycomb blinds - the up/down ones and blackout in the nursery. They are always running crazy sales and you can google more coupon codes. We did part of the house, 8 windows in total (6 in the bay windows, bathroom and nursery) and it was around $400 with sales/coupons I think. We'll use them again when we save for the rest of the house.

If you bought blinds or other window treatments from a full service professional company (Budget Blinds, 3 day blinds, etc) which company did you use and what was your experience? We need window treatments for almost our whole house and I don't know where to start!
