I have the same windows as @Mamaof2: and I love them. So easy to clean and they still act like regular windows when I want to open them for fresh air.

@looch: Exactly! I'm so tired of mosquito bites during the summer! It looks like we'll have to rig something up since having them installed professionally would be out of the question :bummed:

@SugarplumsMom: yes, window screens, you mean? I never understood why they didn't have them, I made my husband install nets in our rental...there were not a lot of bugs, but enough that I would wake up with bites if we slept with the windows open!

@looch: Yeh, the company's supposed to be the best, but that's why we need to more estimates! My mosquito net dreams are shattered! It's apparently worth a fortune to have them in <side-eye>!

@looch: We stayed in an apartment in Germany with the same type of windows you described. I could not get them to open properly! These are not as complicated, however it only opens from the bottom up.

@ElbieKay: You've got me thinking about cross breeze. Thank you!

@Mamaof2: Yes, that's how they open for air flow. It's useful where we live because we get a lot of rain during the summer months. Your windows look a lot sturdier than the ones I posted!

@SugarplumsMom: I feel like I've seen that kind of window before, but oriented where they open at the top...they have a handle that you turn one way to lock, midway to open at the top, tilting inward, the other way to open like a door.

@Mamaof2: we have the same kind of windows and love them.

There's a safety feature on ours that allows the bottom window to open about 2", too, so I always have that flipped open in case my toddler figures out how to open the windows.

I have never seen that kind of window - that's how they open for air flow too?

We have double hung - so they open like normal windows but flip for easy cleaning - I love them

@SugarplumsMom: oooooh! I'm sorry I thought you meant that flip out to clean not to have open. We have windows that slide up, slide down, or the top sash flips out or bottom sash flips in/out so you can clean them. I misunderstood :)

I would worry about less air flow. It doesn't look like it would allow for much cross breeze.

We had our first in-home consultation yesterday and apparently, these types of windows aren't so much more than the normal ones that open out (due to the amount of hardware required to hold up heavy windows and the ones that open from the bottom require less hardware because of the base, or whatever). But I'm still worried about how sturdy they are because I've never actually seen one in a house before!

So if anyone else has a vertically opening window that flips over 180° for easy cleaning, I want to hear from you  I'm specifically interested in the hinges and any problems with it over time.

Thanks!

Do you have windows that flip out (180°) for easy cleaning? Are they worth it? Did you find any disadvantages to having them?

Thanks!
