Fleece sleepers. I did sometimes do Long sleeved onesies under a short sleeved shirt.

I did sleepers and a sleepsack for bed, no onesie (unless it was a frigid night, like -40C)

For everyday she wore a short sleeve onesie under her sweater or regular shirt.

For car seat I would just put her in with a few warm blankets around her. Then our car seat came with a boot cover so I'd put that on. Hat of course. But even though we live in a really cold climate I never put a coat on her in the car seat (to the horror of my mother, but DDs was never ever cold)

For every day wear (but not necessarily for bed), I loved using sleeveless onesies underneath tunics or thin sweaters or both. But long-sleeve onesies were really convenient for home or whenever an extra sweater wasn't necessary.

@PinkElephant: Definetly keep some! My LO2 is a January baby and my LO1 an April baby. She was soooo much smaller so she could wear all the summer clothes from LO1 (well not all they are boy and girl). So what I am trying to say is that you never know how they physically develop.

And I did short sleeved onesies and long sleeved depending on the temps that day. The long sleeved ones are a pain to get under the other clothes but being cold wasn't really an option either.

I had two winter babies in cold climates. My LOs wore a lot of long sleeve onesies under footed sleepers, or a long sleeve onesie with soft pants, socks and a sweater over the top. I had a hooded snowsuit for each of them for the stroller. I could not figure out how to make an Ergo work outside with a snowsuit, but a Bjorn carrier worked reasonably well.

Short sleeve onesie under sleeper, in sleep sack for bedtime. When she was newborn and little I put a hat on her for bedtime at night. I did that for 2-3 weeks.

@macintosh: I believe it! Ugh, and I'm going to be bundling big sisters up as well. I told my mom I'm tossing all the sleepers with snaps and pants without feet, and making a zippers-and-built-in-feet-only rule in our house...I was only half kidding (I'm too obsessed with sweater rompers to be 100% serious!)

When DS was 7-10 months in the winter here. I did long sleeved onesie, sweatpants, a fleece jacket, socks, fleece booties, and some toddler size mittens. Covered him with a fleece blanket in the car. It was a lot of work getting out of the house :silly:

@rattles: Oooh yes, love legwarmers. Any favorite sources for bowed baby hats? Again, this is something I never needed for summer babies...and I'm prepared to all out indulge dressing this little lady since she'll likely be my last. I know her big sisters are going to have a blast outfitting her as well.

@mrsjd: Will do! I just gave away some other things (in more heavily used condition), and after that have a few local mamas waiting to view/buy my summer things. If there's anything left, I'll wall you - it's all super cute! :)

@rattles: So true - as a third (!!!) time mom of a girl, I'm definitely not buying ANY outfits for a baby that just lays there - 1 pieces all the way :)

@ShootingStar: It was practically tropical where my DDs were born, so they just wore onesies or onesies with little shortie bubble legs to look more "dressed" all the time.

Thanks! This is what I figured, it's just SO hard to get rid of two summer babies worth of adorable bubble suits and rompers! :crying: I'll probably keep a few of the ones that ran bigger in case we have some early hot days in April!

Dec baby, live in NE of US -

In the beginning I was afraid of putting things over her head so just did fleece sleepers w/ swaddles. Later on we did put short sleeve onesies on her and then sleepers/clothes. Even now she always wears a tank onesie under all her clothes/PJs.

Haha, I have the complete opposite problem in that I'm not exactly sure how to dress a summer baby. Winter is easy - long sleeves and long pants. But summer is so much more complicated with it being hot outside but maybe being cold inside (for a baby that can't regulate their temp) with AC.

For our November baby, we started out with mostly sleep n plays with a onesie underneath. I loved the short sleeve side snap ones. We also used long sleeve ones under them sometimes too, because the long sleeves had the foldover cuffs, and not all of his sleep n plays had those. And he was constantly scratching himself, so I liked the cuffs.

As he got older I mostly dressed him in a long sleeve onesie and pants. And then the summer he was 8-11 months, I did a lot of the one piece rompers.

We almost always dressed her in one piece sleepers in the winter. Layering was really annoying (we got lots of sets with a onesie, pants, and a hoodie from well-meaning relatives, and it was PITA to deal with all that given how often we needed to change her). The most I would do was a long sleeved onesie and pants.

Edited to add: We did use short sleeve onesies at night, underneath a fleece swaddler (like the Halo ones). She ran hot, and I didn't want her overheating at night in the swaddle.

As a newborn, mine wore short sleeve onesies most of the time - under fleece sleepers, with leggings and sweaters, over tights and under dresses...basically, there was a lot of layering. I found it easy to add or take off pieces based on activity. Sometimes at home I put her in a long sleeve onesie and leg warmers. Lots of cute baby hats with bows. I loved having snugly winter newborns!

I'm sorting through my DDs' clothes seeing what will work for the new baby, and what I need to sell/donate. I'm realizing I have NO IDEA what winter babies wear!

If you had a winter baby (in a climate where winter is actually cold), did you use short sleeve onesies under sleepers? It would be a total PITA to try to layer long sleeves under some of the adorable summer rompers we have, right? It pains me to get rid of some of the sweet clothes my other little girls wore, but I feel like it's got to be done!
