The Patagonia jackets have been worth it for us. We had the down sweater and I always worried it wasn't quite warm enough. I like that they are warm but thin so perfect for house to car, car to school, etc and fit under the carseat straps fine. We've also gotten 2 winters of wear out of each coat, plus then should get at least 2 kids (3 will depend on if LO3 is a boy and wants a purple coat...ha), and they still look great. I feel like we have definitely gotten our $$ worth!</p> <p>That being said, we also have separate snow clothes for actually playing in the snow or skiing or whatnot. Last year for DD2 (she was 1 in Nov), we did just do a fleece/down bunting because she didn't "play" in the snow more than...2-3x? And then the bunting was still good for babywearing, just being outside in the cold, etc.</p> <p>I had a 6-12m bunting from Boden that I used sparingly. That's all I plan to get for A, who is 7m now. We don't live in the city so she's really only outside to go to/from the car. We went with a Benton Springs fleece last year (DD wore in 3 - 7 months old). We didn't spend time outside, just too and from the car, so a thick fleece was good enough. Unless you will be in a stroller constantly, then get a really warm bunting outfit. I live in the suburbs and got away with a zip blanket over the car seat. It requires frequent trips until I find something good though. I found a thin coat from Polarn o pyret that can go in the car seat (it's the weight of patAgonias down sweater coats), and a nice one from l.l.bean for play. I actually really like the l.l.bean one quite a bit. If I'm ever ready to buy new snow stuff I might go with them!!</p> <p>For what it's worth, my approach to winter dressing is all about layers- I do spend money to get nice woolens. Then we add a fleece later and then out wear. But I'm in the Seattle area and our winters are not severe and fairly short. So all the jackets have worn well and look basically brand new so in that way it's been worth the money (most of the coats were gifted and we were able to sell at consignment). Both the Patagonia and North Face jackets were reversible so I liked that about them.
