@ShootingStar: shut your face about this winter being worse than last. Not even possible!

I plan to get a nice, thin but warm zip up fleece for the car. We park in a heated garage so at home it's not an issue at all. When we get places I usually bundled her in a blanket and carried her and hustled to the door of wherever we were going.

I'm thinking I will do similar to last year- she had a good, warm puffy coat, and I got very cheap snow pants (bib style) from target. We had hand me down boots (sorel I think) but will need to get her new ones. And I bought waterproof mittens last year that were too big so they should fit this year still.

The baby will wear Cs hand me down fleece bunting type snow suits.

I loved the LL Bean gear DD had last year. It was pretty reasonably priced and excellent quality. Even though she was only 1.5 they went outside daily at daycare and we live in Canada so it's COLD. I didn't want to skimp and have her cold.

She had the one piece LL Bean snowsuit and it was awesome. I thought the one piece was easier to put on and kept her really warm. It also has grow cuffs in it, so there is a seam that can be let out the following season to lengthen the arms and legs. I'm hoping to use it again this year!

I left the snowsuit at daycare during the week and she used the LL Bean Power Puffer jacket to go back and forth or when we didn't need a full suit. That coat is AWESOME - it is super warm but lightweight.

She also used the LL Bean winter boots which I loved, and I bought her the mitts but I didn't like them at all - they were way too big and bulky. She ended up using Stonz Mittz which were amazing.

I usually don't spend much $$ on her clothes at all, but in our climate good quality snow gear is a must!

@ShootingStar: we found awesome snow suits at Costco! $29.99 for an Osh Kosh two piece. She played outside a ton last year, and she had an Osh Kosh suit then, too.

Boots from Walmart were the best deal- easy to put on, held up really well, and weren't too pricy to replace halfway through the winter when her feet grew.

Waterproof mittens are a must, bonus if they have the extra piece that pulls on halfway up their arms to keep the snow out.

Hats- have to tie/fasten, otherwise they just fall off in the snow!

And we are planning to get her a thin fleece jacket to wear in the car under her car seat buckles. We didn't know about the bulk thing last year, and I cringe thinking about how unsafe she was in that huge puffy jacket!

@snowjewelz: you're not suppose to buckle them into a carseat with a bulky jacket on.

I have a fleece blanket I keep in the car, and she wears a thin but warm fleece pullover in the car, and then I put the fleece blanket over her car seat as well. When we are getting out of the car, I either just hurry her into the building covered in the fleece blanket, or I get in the back seat with her, put her coat on, and then we exit the car. Hope this makes sense! If we are just running quick errands or drop-off at daycare, I just wrap her in the blanket I keep in the car and hurry her into the building that way.

@snowjewelz: I had a 1 year old in the winter as well (december baby), he was just walking and we took him out to play in the snow exactly once. It was a riot and we took a video because he literally stood in one place. If he attempted to move, he fell down. He had snow pants, a winter coat and boots. We used them that one and only time.

I was just thinking about winter gear too – oh the joys of living in a snowy climate!! I think we’ll just get the same sorts of stuff we did last year.

We do 1 pair of snow boots, 1-2 pairs of snow pants with bib (2nd pair if we can a good deal/on sale), 1 winter coat, several fleeces, 2 pairs of gloves/mittens.

I leave all her snow stuff at school, because they go outside every day that’s over like 25 degrees and just bring it home on the weekend to launder. She doesn’t play outside after school at home in the winter because it’s too dark/cold/late, so I don’t need a second set of stuff at home – just bring her school stuff home on the weekends for her to use then.

Boots: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/52080?feat=57010-pprrtop

Snow pants + bib: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/83471?feat=52080-bundle&dds=y (they had more colors available last year, so maybe they haven’t put them all out yet??)

Coat: she had a North Face down coat last year, not sure the exact type. Very warm but not too bulky.

Fleece: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/69178?feat=sr&term=fleece+pullover+toddler+girl I like this one because it is very thin and not bulky, so great to layer.

Fleece lined hoodie: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/53837?feat=83471-pprrright I like this one to wear more as a jacket (so, like early and late winter). It’s bulkier than the fleece above, so harder to layer under a coat, though you can do it.

I have no idea what winter jacket to buy either! She will def play in the snow, tho not for too long, as I don't know when she'll walk and how good of a walker she will be.

I prefer snow bibs with a winter jacket over. Make sure the pants have the rubber band then the layer that slips over the boots. I'm a big fan of Sorel boots. Generally daycare gives us notice on outside snow play days so then we'll bring in boots and weatherproof gear.

Im going to bite the bullet on the Patagonia down sweater for the girls this year. DD2 is fine without footwear because she won't be a great enough walker yet is winter. I don't think! But dd1 definitely needs a new pair of sorels.

I scope out 6pm.com.

I just ordered B a pair of snowpants, and we got him a jacket on end of season sale last year. We also bought him a toque, but I'm sure we'll end up with more of those. Boots are my next step. For the car, last winter I made him a heavy fleece hooded poncho that worked great for to/from the car so I wasn't dealing with overheating or trying to buckle him in wearing a bulky jacket. It was enormous on him last year so I'm sure it will still fit this year.

I was just thinking about this! I'm going to get a Patagonia Down Sweater for the car, and probably something heavier for playing outside. I was also looking at Kamik boots, but I would love to hear some reviews!

I know it's only August, but I'm starting to think about what winter gear we're going to need this year. I keep seeing predictions that this winter will be worse than last :crying: . DS will be 2 in November, so this is the first year I think that they'll be playing outside at daycare while it's cold.

So what winter gear are you getting for your LOs? Snow pants? Snow suits? Multiple winter coats (maybe I need one for outdoor play at daycare and one for the car?) What kind of boots?

Show me your winter stuff!
