Thanks for the input! So I think it's going to be a fleece bunting pronto, with blanket for now and a stroller cover of some sort eventually.

@ShootingStar: Thanks for the links!!! Now hopefully they go on sale this week. :silly:

@PinkElephant: I'm on our local list-serv but have not managed to snag any baby stuff; things go way too fast!

I like this for the stroller - http://jjcolecollections.com/polar-bundleme

And this for the carseat - http://jjcolecollections.com/car-seat-cover

I don't like the snowsuit things on babies because I feel like it's hard once you're inside.

We used a fleece bunting with a thick blanket over it when she was in the stroller for her first year (Boston), although I often wore her that year (also with just a bunting). I read that bundleme's aren't actually safe in the car, and I didn't want to deal with taking it on or off depending on whether we were using the carseat in the stroller or the car, so we didn't bother with one of those.

Also in NYC with baby #3. Right now I'm putting my 5 wk old in a fleece bunting inside a carrier, zipped into my coat/covered in my scarf, simply because I need the stroller to move my older kids. If/when I put her in the stroller, I'd be using our JJ Cole Urban Bundle me with the same bunting for shorter outings, like school pick up, where we will go inside, and will add a blanket as a wrap or switch to a down bunting when it is really brutal and/or we'll be outside (or are staying outside, not going inside).

Since these things get outgrown fast and people in NYC lack ample storage, it's so easy to pick them up for a steal on BST groups, and resell them when you're finished.

The recent cold snap reminded me I need to get cold weather stuff too. I'm on Carter's about to order the fleece one for car trips and the puffer like bunting for longer stroller trips or really cold days. I have a car seat cover thing already. I'm going to check out some other places (LL Bean, Gap/old navy) because I'm not sold on the styles/colors from Carter's.

So last winter DD was in an infant carrier. When traveling, either in the car or stroller, she was always in the infant carrier. We usually put a hat on her, two blankets and then had the stretchy "sleeping bag type" cover for the carrier. It worked well.

Edit: we did also have a snowsuit for her if we were going to take her outside without the carrier.

I urgently need to get some winter gear for LO. I have a 6 month old and we live in NYC- so we walk with the stroller most days of the week, but then also drive once or twice a week. I started looking last night but there are so many options- fleece bunting, snow suit type thing, stroller sleeping bag cover of various sorts. I'm wondering if some of you that have done this can just tell me what to get, please? I'm not really looking to "invest" since this is baby number 3 just get whatever I need to survive the next few months.
