@Crumbs: Oh no! That is so sad that it stings her face. Thanks for the bathtime tips. His cheeks are starting to get better.
@duckduckkristen: I used to have that stuff and forgot all about it. I'll try it. Thanks!

@duckduckkristen: Ditto this. It's been crazy dry and when all else fails and I don't want to use my Eczema ointments, I use the Eucerin Original Creme. It's like a cream & super barrier in one!

We met with a pediatric dermatologist for my son's eczema and we were told to use Aquafor or Vaseline exclusively- no creams. I don't know what the reasoning is behind it but I know that we haven't had any issues all winter (we live in Chicago) using the Aquafor 2x a day.

We all use Eucerin Original Healing. It's super thick and works great. Since I can't use my Rx ezcema cream while pregnant I use the Eucerin and I think it actually works better.

Lush has a petroleum-free alternative to Aquaphor/Vaseline, called Ultrabalm: http://www.lushusa.com/Ultrabalm/03078,en_US,pd.html

I've been using it on my really dry face this past week, and it's worked great! I used to use Aquaphor before I got pregnant, and that worked well, too.

We use Aveeno lotion for eczema. I bought the adult version for both of us to use since the ingredients are exactly the same in teh baby version, but the baby one is more expensive and you get less. We also use Vaseline on his cheeks frequently during the day as they get chapped.

My DDs have mild cases of eczema right now on their hands and legs. It's never happened before and I sort of freaked out. But I started putting coconut oil on them 3-4x a day, and now a week later, it's much better. My one DD who had a worse case of it on her hands... It's almost completely gone now.

We use california baby super sensitive for bathing, everything else was giving him dry skin. I use cetaphil on my cracking knuckles. I also got some beeswax hand cream, which helps the most, but I wouldn't put it on LO's face because it has a really strong scent.

What kind of baby wash are you using? I find that certain baby washes also dry out my LO's skin a lot! So finding a hydrating baby wash along with a good lotion is key.

I've had sensitive skin all my life and now DD's skin is even much more sensitive than mine. They say not to give LO's long, hot baths, but from experience (when it's utterly dry) it helps to put moisture back into the skin. But instead of hot baths, stick to short, warm baths while you steam up the bathroom beforehand so it's nice warm. Don't use soap everyday, for us we avoid it when her skin's really bad. After the short bath, don't towel dry, just add lotion. A normal, sensitive (unscented) lotion is fine for the body, but try using a thicker one for the face.

I *just* realized that my LO's prescribed lotion actually stings her face! I tried it and it stings my face! I'm kicking myself for not checking beforehand :(

I would also try cetaphil...my pedi told me that aquaphor and vaseline are not actually helpful for dry skin because they don't actually moisturize, they just provide a barrier. So you can use them over a moisturizer to help protect the skin further, but they won't provide extra moisture to the skin.

What type of baby lotion were/are you currently using? We were using CA Baby but it didn't seem thick enough to me to handle winter weather. Now we use either CeraVe or Mustela. We also use a little aquaphor on her cheeks if they seem especially dry.

Alright so this is the first time I have lived somewhere this dry and this cold at the same time.
First we noticed my husband's hands turning raw and red... then a few days later my hands... and now my (8 month old) son's FACE!

Help! Our (all natural) baby lotion seems to just make it redder. I do run a humidifier for him at night but I am worried about his skin.

Is this a problem for rash cream? Baby oil? A different brand of lotion? I can only imagine how he feels but my knuckles sure sting.

What do you use to treat baby's winter skin?
