@ladybee: Apple has a 1 yr warranty as well. And if you want help beyond the original period... you will have to pay for their services too. Just an FYI :-)

I would check Device Manager to verify that you have the wireless network card in your computer.

Click the Start button and search for "Device Manager". Then look under "Network Adapters". What do you see?

Here's a screenshot of mine. You can see that I have a Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet adapter (wired) and a Wireless-N adapter. My wireless adapter is currently disabled since I'm using the Broadcom.

I am so disappointed. I called HP and they said since it is out of the 1 year warranty they will not help me fix the problem unless I pay $195 for their services. WTH?

@sunny: when we bought the computer we were told that the wireless card was built in?

Are you positive it has a wireless card in it? Is there an antenna sticking out the back?

If there is definitely a card, then either the driver might not be installed correctly or it might not be enabled.

My husband and I bought a HP desktop (HP Pavilion P6000) approx. 4 years ago. It never picked up a wireless signal but we always had it plugged in so we just forgot about it. Well now we need to move the computer away from the modem and router and I do not know how to get this stupid thing to work. My only guess is that the actual wireless card in the computer doesn't work. Does that even make sense?

My plan is to call HP on Monday but if anyone has any ideas or tips that would be great. I'd like to not sound like an idiot when I call. :)
