@bunnylove08: I'm glad it went so well! I hope you continue to feel better. You may be sore tomorrow, but it's better than having a tooth in pain!

Just to add my experience, I had four impacted teeth. Not a huge deal to come out, but I am super sensitive to anesthesia, so that was what made my experience uncomfortable. Oh! And really, listen when they say don't play with the stitches. I loosened one with my tongue, and that flap of skin in the back of my mouth never grew back the same way as the other sides did. So leave them alone!

So I have my tooth extracted today. The x-ray showed a side ways impacted tooth! But my doctor was not worried a out that one, he was worried about the one on top. It was biting into the side of my mouth and that was causing the pain. I ended up having that one removed and if the side ways one bothers me then I will go back in. That one can cause some nerve damage.

The procedure took 1 minute. He cleaned the area, novacaned, let it settle , pried the tooth and pulled it out! That was it! I had slight discomfort but have not taken any pain med yet. I have a little bit of bleeding still so I'm biting on gauze but I'm eXhausted so I'm planning on takin the gauze out and sleeping.

Thanks for all your stories it really helped me!

I did mine before I went to college. So I was about 18 (over 10 years ago). I was young and I don't remember much but I do remember it not being so bad and it was a pretty quick recovery.

My mom bought me lots of KFC mash potatoes to eat. :)

It wasn't bad at all. We were TTC at the time so I opted out of general anesthesia and just went for a local. Ate appelsauce and room temp soup for quite a few days. Also just had to be careful about chewing and flushing the site after every meal to prevent infection.

I had mine taken out in college; of the 4, 2 of them were impacted. Most of it was fine except the part where I woke up in the middle of surgery. I was conscious but couldn't move or talk, so I had to get through the rest of it listening to them talk and feeling everything they were doing in my mouth.

I had mine taken out in my dentist's office...awake. They gave me a Valium preprocedure. It honesty wast that bad. I had much less swelling/bruising because I was awake (so they couldn't be extremely rough while doing it). My mom is the office manager and she had some really scary stories of how some oral surgeons extract them :(

I had mine taken out and the surgery wasn't bad at all. It's very quick and I woke up with fits of giggles. I think because it was so much easier than when I had my tonsils removed, that's why I was laughing so much. Then I reacted badly to one of the meds and I couldn't stop vomiting. I had to take a suppository of some anti-nausea med to help. But still wasn't that bad. Make sure you clean it out well. You'll do fine!

I've had just one extracted so far. It was causing me some pain and I was six months pregnant, so I only had that one extracted for now. It was super simple. I was given local anesthesia and just took the one day off work. I took some Tylenol afterwards but that was it. I didn't need to take any of the pain killers they prescribed. It did swell for an hour or two after it was extracted, but that was it. I really hope the other three are just as easy!

@bunnylove08: I had mine out when I was 30-- they were somewhat impacted but not painful, but my dentist recommended getting them all out sooner than later. It wasn't that bad. I'd never had anesthesia before but I knew I wanted to be out for the surgery (apparently I woke up during the surgery but I have no recollection of that at all). I was really disoriented when i woke up and pretty woozy, but that was about it. I already knew I respond better to percocet than vicodin so I requested that and had DH fill the Rx while I was in surgery. I was on liquid or mushy foods for several days, kept the soft ice packs on my face like, 23 hours a day for 2 days, and I didn't skimp on the painkillers for the first couple of days. I think I had the surgery on Fri and went back to work on Tues (Mon was a holiday). I kept up the painkillers at night to help me sleep, since I was still sore, but stuck to tylenol or advil during the day since I was visiting my brand new nephew and refused to hold him while on narcotics!

My little sister had hers our after me and didn't have much pain either, but she did get lots of swelling, which was more annoying than anything else. She sent some awesome pictures at least.

I had all 4 taken out at once and it was really NOT that bad at all. I think I took Vicodin once or twice? And then just tylenol. I was on a pretty liquid diet for a while/ate a lot of ice pops. But I barely had any swelling and had no complications!

@bunnylove08: I somehow think my bad recovery was due to the fact that my teeth weren't really needing to come out. So basically it kind of felt like I had unnecessary surgery.
I got mine out because I was off work and had the time and wanted to get it over with.

Hopefully it will be better for you since you are in pain already and your teeth actually NEED out!

I had one removed a few years ago, but it was already halfway through the gum (the other three are still not fully out of my gums, and mine started coming in during my mid 20s). Extraction took about 3 minutes and the recovery was fine, I felt pretty good after the anesthesia wore off within a few hours. Good luck!

I had them pulled out a few years ago. It wasn't a big deal at all. They are a little harder to do then some other teeth but my dentist made sure I was VERY numb before starting & I had little to no pain afterwards. Good luck! All the scary stories can be intimidating but there are good ones too.

I had my removed last year. They were impacted so I was put under general anesthesia. My husband said the surgery took half an hour at most. Recovery wasn't bad at all. The first day I was super groggy but not in any pain. I was never in any pain actually. My cheeks were super swollen and I had a lot of bruising, but other than that I was fine.

I didn't have a good experience. Mine weren't causin me much pain, but I had one that was in danger of growing impacted, so the dentist decided to go ahead and take all 4 out.
Everyone kept telling me what a breeze the recovery was and that it was nothing at all. My husband had all 4 of his out and was back to normal 2 days later. My mom said she was eating pizza the same day.

It took me two whole weeks just to be able to eat somewhat normally again. The pain was awful. I took my pain medication and only 1 time did it work. I couldn't think of eating anything but mashed potatoes the first two weeks. Luckily I was off work for the season so I could rest.

Not trying to scare you but everyone said it was no big deal and I went in expecting that and ended up with an awful experience.

I hate to even tell my experience because it was totally not the norm. I went in the day of my extraction and was told the anesthesia nurse wasn't here so I'd have to either have it done with local only or come back. I wanted it done with, so I went for the local. That wasn't that bad just a little unnerving being awake while they tug and pull (I also had all 4 removed). Recovery was okay, but two months later I noticed a heaviness on my bottom left jaw, went in to get it checked and had a LARGE abscess due to retained bone fragment, the recovery from that was worse than the wisdom tooth extraction. My face was HUGE for a week.

I had mine taken out a few years ago. I was so scared but I was numb and didn't feel a thing. I pretty much slept through it. Then I was worried it would hurt after but it never did, I was shocked. Just keep up on the meds. Even at night, set an alarm to take the meds, I think that really helped.

I had mine taken out as a teenager so my parents were taking care of me and I remember going back to school a few days later. When my husband had his taken out last year, I took care of him and made sure that he didn't need to drive or do anything for a few days after. The toughest part for me was getting my husband into the car from the surgeon's office, and then getting him into the house because he was so out of it. He's much bigger than me, so obviously having him physically lean on me was tough!

You just need to take it really easy for a few days.

I had mine out about 1.5 years ago, just the top 2. They were severely impacted, he wouldn't do all 4 at once because of that. It was 2 months post-partum too, I got dry socket and my husband was working out of town.
I didn't like the oral surgeon, he wouldn't see me when I thought I had a dry socket, just told me to take more meds. My regular dentist saw me! I swelled pretty bad too. If it hadn't been for the dry socket it wouldn't have been that bad.

I had all four of mine extracted in high school. One root broke off so that required extra digging around but I was out completely so I didn't know about it till after. I fought the anesthesia because I was scared to wake up mid-procedure so they had a bit of difficulty waking me up afterwards. I was super groggy the whole rest of the day.

I think I had mine out on a Thursday and was back at school on Monday. I was still a little swollen but it went down pretty quickly. Definitely follow all of the instructions regarding foods to avoid and no straws to avoid dry sockets.

Hope you get some relief.
