I'm getting it done on a Thursday morning and I'm hoping to be back in the office on Monday, but told my boss I would be playing it by ear. </p> <p>Besides ice cream, any other suggestions on food? I'm the same and want to prevent dry sockets? I plan on taking it as easy as possible, DH said he would man the children or even take them to his mom's if I needed the quiet. The oral surgeon said the recovery would be a bit harder because waited (I'm 30) and the roots were pretty deep. The day of and the following day was pretty bad. I needed DH and my mom to do pretty much everything with the baby. The important thing is to stay on top of your pain mess. Don't wait until it starts to hurt, it's far easier to prevent the pain than get rid of it. Get stocked up on ice cream and supplies in advance and hunker down for a fairly unpleasant 4-5 days. I was obsessive about preventing dry socket. Rinse very gently with warm salt water several times a day. I'm 8 days out and still a little bit swollen and bruised but feeling much better. I was back in the office the following Wednesday. The anticipation is the worst. It has to be done, you'll be fine, just get it over with. The recovery was nothing compared to the pain of the infection, so I thought it was great. I had general anesthesia and as soon as I woke up, I realized my jaw area wasn't making me want to die anymore (the infection) and it got easier from there.</p> <p>I took Friday off work, was fine by Monday. It sucked, sure. But with the pain meds and the ability to just lay in bed all day I was fine. Luckily my DH came up to help me through it. I needed to drive, so I got local anesthesia. I was pretty nervous, but it was so quick! Before I knew it they were stitching me up. I only took ibuprofen for the pain. They had not erupted yet. I only had two (the upper I believe). It was painless and without complications. So I got all four of them done at an oral surgery office, with general anesthesia. It sucked but not that big of a deal. I kept the ice packs on my face around the clock pretty much and had minimal swelling. I think I had them out on Thursday and was back at work on Tuesday (but it may have been a long weekend). I was still being careful and eating soft foods but generally ok. I don't like how prescription painkillers make me feel so I was just doing Advil by the second or third day, except at bedtime. Just do everything you can to avoid dry socket! </p> <p>For healthy soft foods you can do yogurt, mashed root vegetables, healthy smoothies... As it matures it gets more difficult for both removal and recovery.<br /> I got mine out at 32. They had to crack my jaw to get the bottom ones out. I couldn't eat solids for almost a month. I'm glad I did it though, all 4 are out and I'll never have to think of them again. I had general anesthesia so I didn't see or hear anything, so the actual procedure was a breeze. The pain and swelling doesn't settle in until day 3/4, so it gets a bit worse before it gets better. I didn't remember the dr telling me this and had to call back to ask about it, lol. It was a good week before I could really talk/work. I did it the Thursday before Columbus Day and ended up going back the next Thursday.<br /> Once it's done, you'll never have to do it again! Easy as pie. Seriously...very little pain at all, which was totally controllable by plain old Tylenol. Mine had really deep roots that went into my sinuses pretty heavily, so they thought it was going to be rougher for me than it was, but it was fine. @LuLu Mom Don't be scared!! The first one was totally fine. I even got on a plane the following day and had zero issues. The second one was just a few months ago and it was awful. Not only did they have to really get into my jaw, but a piece of the root broke off and they didn't realize it until they stitched me up and I was paying. Then, they called me back into the room, opened me up again and spent some time digging for the fragment. It was pretty awful. I was very sore for a week after that and even a bit bruised on that side of my face! It was partially out and I just had a local anesthetic because it was the only thing they could use in pregnancy. The procedure was easy! I have 2 more (4th doesn't even show on x Ray) and am not sure if I'll need them out. I'm 35, put off as long as I could. Amazingly, 3 of them have grown in straight. One is a little sideways but not too bad, they never hurt so I just sort of forgot about them. But my dentist had said they are decaying so they need to be taken out. Getting the procedure done on Thurs and taking Thurs and Friday off from work. My bottom two were coming in sideways and apparently were as close to the nerve as possible without actually touching it. I had to go to a specialist to get them taken out. ( THey took out all 4.) Apparently it was a little more difficult than they originally thought, but it was OK. I had some trouble coming out of the anaesthetic, but aside from that, recovery was pretty good. THe dr did a great job and I had little swelling, though I did get a dry socket.
