Here's our current schedule, DD is 3.5yo and DS is 16m. When DS was still nursing I would nurse him from 6-6:30AM and during storytime at night. I make out a menu on Saturday before going to the grocery but don't really do any prep ahead of time unless a specific meal calls for it. I do all laundry on the weekend, usually start it Friday night and finish it Saturday or at latest Sunday morning.

5AM: alarm goes off
5:30AM: either DH or I get up and shower, followed by the other one
6AM: we wake up both LO, divide and conquer getting them dressed
6:30AM: I take kids to sitter's house (they eat breakfast at sitter's)
7AM: commute to work
5:30PM: I get home from work/DH gets home with LOs
6-6:30PM: target time for dinner as a family
7PM: we get DS ready for bed, DH reads him a story while I cuddle him
8PM: we get DD ready for bed, read story and pray
8:15-10PM: evening chores/pack lunches/relax
10PM: bed

@LovelyPlum: That may not be ideal for many, but it's fine. My husband doesn't even get home from work until 6:30-7 pm sometimes so LO has to eat before we eat. We start her bedtime routine at 7:15ish.

@Cherrybee: I'm super lazy.

Dinner: So I only make dinner about twice a week, we eat leftovers from those dinners twice a week, and the rest of the time we forage for food in our cabinets and eat things like cereal for dinner. Or chips and salsa. True story. We used to order in on those nights, but now that LO is MSPI, my restaurant days are over.

Cleaning: HAH. no seriously, we only clean when we are having people over.

Laundry: I put a load in almost every day when I get home from work because LO has inevitably pooped/peed/spit up on something at day care and so I just throw in whatever else is dirty with her day care stuff. However, I hate folding and hanging up laundry, so clean clothes often languish for days on our guest bed. (shrug. See "cleaning" section above for how often we actually put all the clothes away).

Packing for day care: I do lay out LO's clothes and we make her three day care bottles the night before and keep them in the fridge (I EP, so it's milk I pumped that day).

Packing my own work bags (pump parts, lunch): I usually do that in the morning while pumping.

Schedule:

5:45 wakeup. 5 minute shower if I didn't shower the night before. Have to be pumping by 6 am.

6:00-6:30 am pump while drying hair, brushing teeth, packing lunch, dressing bottom half, drinking coffee.

6:30-6:45--turn into a Mom Tornado as I run around the house frantically, washing pump parts, throwing things into my pump bag, dressing top half, looking for sock, cursing at not finding matching socks or discovering we're out of bread for my lunch.

6:40-6:45--husband inevitably chooses my last 5 minutes in the house to suddenly have a MASSIVE NEED to be in the bathroom right during my mom tornado phase, when I need to be brushing my teeth or looking for a bobby pin or something, so we usually exchange some choice words.

6:45 (okay, more like 6:50) I leave for work.

Everything at this point is guesswork as I am gone and it's all DH at this point....

6:50-7:30--DH showers, irons his clothes, shaves, and gets dressed.

7:30--DH wakes LO and dresses her
7:40--DH loads LO and her daycare bag into the stroller
7:50-- drops LO at day care
8:00--makes it to the bus for work

Afternoon:
4:15-- I pick up LO from Day care
4:30--get home and unload LO and day care stuff, prep bottle
4:45--LO takes 3rd nap of the day. LO has feeding issues, so I wait till she's asleep then sneak back in to feed her.
5:00 pm-- unload LO's daycare bottles and clothes, throw clothes in to wash, wash bottles and my pump parts from the day Either start prepping dinner or collapse in exhausted heap on couch.
5:30 pm LO wakes up and we have play time
6:30 pm DH comes home and we have family time (or he has play time with LO and I continue cooking dinner)
7:00 pm--solids with LO
7:15--LO bath
7:30-8:00pm --bed routine with LO. Once again, we have to wait until she falls asleep to feed her.

8:15 pm-- we eat dinner and relax/watch tv/talk, etc.

9 pm: I pump again.
9:30 wash pump parts, DH packs night time and next day's day care bottles. I lay out LO's clothes
10 pm: bed (or sometimes I take a shower and I don't go to bed until 11).

Cleaning...heh. I fit it in when I can.

6:00 Wake-up
6:05-6:30 Get out of bed (depends on how many wake-ups we had that night)
Eat breakfast
Get pump parts and pump bottles together in their bag.
DH walks the dog, gets dressed, and gets her daycare bottles ready.
Brush teeth/shower
7-7:30 H wakes up for the day.
Snuggle, feed
Change diapers
7:45-8:00 - Out the door
8:15-8:25 - Drop off at Daycare
8:30-9:00 - I'm at work, depending on traffic
8:45-9:15 - Husband is at work, depending on traffic (we carpool)

4:00 - Husband picks H up from daycare
4:45 -5:00 - Husband and H pick me up from work
5:30-6:00 Home, depending on traffic
6:00-7:30 Dinner, playtime, FT grandparents (I usually throw the days bottles and pump parts in a sinkful of hot soapy water then), throw in a load of diapers if we're out.
7:30- Bedtime for H. We're lucky if we make it this far without a meltdown.
8:00 - move diapers to dryer, wash bottles, pack pump parts and dry bottles.

After that, one of us veges out while the other one goes to the gym. I try to get to bed around 10 or 10:30 these days because H has decided it would be fun to eat at 12:30.

I am super organized, but it is still overwhelming. My DD is 11.5 months. Both DH and I WOH, but luckily my hours are pretty reasonable (his are not).

6:05 - alarm goes off
either DH or I go to the gym and return at 7:30. The other one showers and hangs out with DD. If it's my gym day, I wake DD to nurse at 6:15 and then put her back down (she sleeps another 45 minutes or so). Otherwise I nurse her when she wakes up. If it's my day at home:
6:45 - DD wakes up and I nurse
7:00 - I shower while DD plays in the bathroom
7:15 - DD and I go downstairs to make breakfast and pack her bag for the day. DD plays or eats breakfast in her high chair.
7:45/8:00 - DH and I finish getting ready
8:15 - DH leaves, I get DD dressed for the day
8:25 - Drop DD off at nanny share house
9:00 - I arrive at work
5:00 - I leave work
5:25 - pick up DD at nanny share house
5:30 - DD plays while I change my clothes, put her cups/lunch containers in the dishwasher. I play with DD.
6:00 - DD her eats dinner in her highchair while I start dinner prep.
6:30/45 - DH gets home. DD gets a bath or we play in the living room.
7:15 - nurse
7:30 - DH puts DD to bed, I make dinner
8:00 - adult dinner + tv/reading + get lunches organized for the next day
10:00/10:30 - bedtime for me

Cleaning happens in fits and starts or on weekends. We really need to get a new cleaning lady (fired the last one in October because she was terrible.) Laundry happens overthe weekend - we usually do 3-4 loads/weekend.

I'm finding these schedules really fascinating! Thank you all for sharing. Our LO isn't here yet, but we'll both be WOH starting next school year, so it's good to see how the routine works. I obviously don't know, but I have a feeling one of our biggest hiccups is that I don't like to eat dinner until later-7:30 or so. So, I have a feeling LO will be eating way before DH and I do.

What's cleaning?

4:30/5:00 - wake up, shower, do hair/make-up
5:30 - nurse Xander and put back to bed
5:45 - pump!
6:20 - leave to go to work
6:30 - Hubs wakes up!! Jerk... He showers and gets ready for work
7:10 - Gets Xander up, changed, and off to daycare they go (Xander eats breakfast at daycare)

4:30 p.m. - I leave work!
5:00 - pick up Xander, bring him home, play time
5:30/6:00 - dinner! If Hubs is home, we'll have dinner as a family, otherwise I just feed Xander
7:00 - bedtime for Xander, Hubs and I have dinner now if we haven't eaten, and I start a load of laundry if necessary
8:00 - Hubs usually does the dishes and washes bottles
9:30/10:00 - bedtime!

I work Tuesday through Thursday:

645: we are up. I nurse and dress LO while DH showers
7:30 DH takes LO to daycare. He eats breakfast there.
8:30 I leave for work (the hour is really nice. We started it when I had morning sickness before that I did drop off)
5:00 I leave to pick LO up.
5:45 get home. Sometimes LO nurses, sometimes he doesn't.
6:00 I cook dinner. Usually something simple or a crockpot meal or leftovers. I save harder things for my days off.
6:30 or 6;45 ish - eat. LO eats with us unless he is starving then DH will feed him while I cook.
7:30 start bed time routine.
8:00 I nurse him. DH cleans the kitchen at the same time.
8:30 I will straighten up the house.
9:00 maybe an episode of TV.
10-10:30 bed.

I clean on my days off and DH often does laundry on the weekend. It's hard to find time for some projects though. We are usually just too exhausted.

F is a little over a year. We're not super organized but we have a routine down and it doesn't work as well without both of us doing chores.

AM:
Wake @ 6
F hangs out/plays & we get dressed/brush teeth/feed the dog
Mr. makes his lunch with F & I finish getting ready
One of us changes/dresses F, the other tidies up (dishes from last night, etc)
Mr leaves at 6:30. F eats & I load up the car
F& I leave for daycare @ 7; there @ 7:15; I'm to work @ 7:45
**when F was little it was slightly different because we nursed before I left.**

PM:
Mr. picks up F around 4:15, home around 4:30.
F plays, Mr. feeds dog & gets items together for dinner.
I'm home around 5. Mr. takes dog on walk, F plays, I tidy up (laundry if needed, etc)
F eats dinner @ 5:45 (previous nights dinner)
Mr & I cook while F eats.
Mr. does bath/jammies at 6; I finish dinner & clean up kitchen (used to wash bottles/pump parts during this time)
I put F to sleep at 6:30ish
Mr & I eat at 7, then prep house for am (lunches, etc).
We relax, do projects, & take turns showering and go to bed between 9-10

I actually logged into my desktop so I could write you a proper response!

We both WOH and have a 3 yo. My husband and I have long hours on some days, so we get going super early during the week so on our shorter days, we can leave the office at 4.

Full disclosure:

At 6:30 every morning, we drop our son of at my parent's house. My mom packs my son's food and daycare bag, which includes his cot sheet, blanket, changes of clothes. They drop him off at 8 or so and pick him up after the afternoon nap around 3. He stays at their house until we pick him up, can be between 4:30 and 6 depending on the day.

I have a cleaning lady, she comes twice a month. I only do laundry on the weekends so I don't forget stuff in the dryer and end up having to iron it. I get all our outfits for the week organized so there is no rumaging around in the morning. I iron once a week, usually on Sunday and do dry cleaning drop off and pick up on Saturday.

As for food prep, I plan a month of menus. On our long days, we eat at my parent's house, it's twice a week now. I cook a slow cooker meal on Sunday for leftovers on Monday and then I only have to worry about Wed/Fri. Usually it's something that I can prepare without too much prep.

I have started Zumba on Friday nights. On Saturday, we wake up early and I go to my weight watchers meeting at 7:30. The dry cleaner is in that strip mall. I come home for breakfast, then I take my son to soccer for 10. It's lunch and nap when we come home. I use the Sat. nap time to plan my grocery list. On Sunday morning, we go grocery shopping as a family. I spend the Sunday nap ironing and prepping food for the week.

Whatever I can buy online and have shipped home, I do.

Hope that helps you. At some point, you get into a groove, it took me 3 full months before I felt "I got this." I have been back at work a year now and I am just adding in activities for my son and I, so don't feel like you have to go whole hog from day 1. Ease yourself into it, take breaks to assess, change what isn't working and move on. Always look forward, not behind!

LO is 20 months old and we both woh.

LO usually wakes up at 6 am. We nurse and snuggle for another 30 minutes.
6:30 the whole family is up. DH takes the dog potty while I change LO. Then he takes her while I shower and get ready for work. While I'm doing that he makes breakfast, gets her bag together, makes coffee for him and tea for me.
Out the door by 7:00-7:20
He drops Me off at the train, LO off at daycare daycare the he goes home.
DH usually cleans up from breakfast then and gets ready for work.
He gets out at 4 goes to pick LO up from daycare then me up at the train.
We're usually home by 5. We make dinner together and eat by 6. One of us will bathe LO while the other does dinner clean up. LO is usually in bed by 7:30.

On the nights where DH works till 9pm LO and I eat leftovers or I make something quick like sauté shrimp with egg noodles and tomato sauce. I always have something easily thrown together in to the freezer for her. On nights I will usually take out a freezer meal for DH and I.

DH does a lot of cleaning in the morning. Often on his days off he does thorough cleanings. I pick up the slack evenings and weekends. Although being in the first tri I'm pretty useless right now!

It all seems a little daunting at the beginning but you'll get into a groove. At that age LO was asleep very shortly after bringing home. So we would Nurse, play for a bit then bed time routine. DH and I wouldn't eat dinner till she went to bed.

For us it's important that gets a well balanced home cooked meal nights. So we prioritize that.

Deep cleaning doesn't get done as often as we would like but that's because I despise cleaning. We are hiring a biweekly cleaner and we do daily maintenance (tidying, wiping down counters, sweeping, swiffering, etc)

Here is our schedule:

6:20 am - wake up, shower, get dressed
7:00 - get LO up, change, breakfast
7:40-ish - out the door
7:50 - arrive at daycare

4:45 - pick up from daycare
5:00 - get home, play, LO gets a snack, I prep dinner
5:30/5:45 - DH gets home so I can hammer down on the dinner prep
6:00 - eat
630/6:45 - get LO ready for bed (bath, change, books, brush teeth)
7/7:15 pm - he is in bed

After we put LO down DH does all of the dinner clean up, I tidy up around the house and then DH takes our dog out for a walk. I will do laundry in the evening or on the weekends.

My work schedule is super flexible so sometimes I can do grocery shopping and meal prep before I pick up LO from daycare. We do Costco runs on the weekend. A big thing is to meal plan for each week so we have meat/protein defrosted for that night's dinner. Using the crockpot is always super fast and easy!! Oh, and we usually take leftovers for lunch.

Yes we are super organized. It's the only way things get done! And we hired a cleaning lady for the deep cleaning.

I get up around 5/530
Wake up E around 645
Day care at 7
Work 730-4
DH picks up E at 430
Gym (me)
Home 6
Dinner 615ish
Bath 630-7 ish
Bed 7-730ish

Clean mostly on weekends or after she goes to bed. We go to bed at 9. It took a few months but we have it down pretty routinely now. Whoever doesn't do the baby bath cleans the kitchen. Since I'm up so early, that's when I clean and watch tv and do the like. I food shop Saturdays and always make at least one bulk item on Sundays.

I am still tweaking our routine as I have only been back at work one week now but a few things I did in advance to help:

- I began putting outfits together when I do the laundry each weekend. I match pants and shirts and all necessary accessories for both myself and LO. This way I don't end up searching for the matching pair of teeny tiny socks or the right undershirt for me at five in the morning

- I bought these for my lunches

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0078K416Y?cache=4e9008bd4a9694ecccdd235bf0586860&pi=SX200_QL40

I bought five sets and pack them every weekend. I just fill the containers with healthy options like yogurt, trail mix or nuts, peanut butter, cheese and crackers and fruit and veggies. They all keep nicely for the week, I get a variety and I don't have to worry about packing a lunch every morning.

- I make sure I have a handy breakfast ready. Sometimes I will make breakfast quinoa on the weekends and then refrigerate to eat later in the week or I will have yogurt and fruit ready. Something I can grab quickly so I can maximize my time.

- I have started making freezer meals. I find the recipes online and try to do one or two per week. I try to make one freezer meal for dinner and then make a second one to freeze for a later date. Most can be made in the crockpot and only require a few ingredients. This way I can grab something out of the freezer the night before, stick it in the crockpot in the morning and have dinner when I get home.

None of these things takes a lot of time (I am lazy like that! ) but it saves me immense amounts of stress and maximizes the amount of time I can spend with LO which makes me happy :)

We get up at 6:30.
Feed the baby (milk).
Let her play for a few minutes while I (quickly) get ready.
Feed the baby her solids.
Change her into her clothes for the day.
Let her play for a few minutes while I scramble to get bottles ready.
Out the door by 7:30 or 7:45.

We get home by 5:30.
Feed the baby solids for dinner.
Play for a few minutes.
Bath if it's bath night.
Get her into her jammies.
Nurse.
Books and bed, usually by 6:30-7:00
(Husband usually cooks dinner while I do bedtime routine)
We eat, clean (haha, that's the goal at least!), and get things ready for the next day.

Our LO is 6 months old. It is hectic, and I feel like I don't get to see her much on workdays.

We make simple dinners and cook in advance. Like if we want baked potatoes, we will cook themthe previous night so that all we haveto do is heat them before dinner.

We usually eat dinner together every night.

We leave in the morning at 645 and return home at 630 at night. Bedtime is 8 for LO.

DH does most of the household chores. I do most of the baby care.

It would definitely never work without all of DHshelp.

Hah...cleaning...

We wake up at 530ish, bring LO into our bed, DH feeds her while I work out and shower, and then DH and LO to back to sleep until 645. He then gets himself ready while I dress her and put our lunches together. We're out the door at 715. She doesn't eat breakfast yet and when she does we're going to have daycare feed her. There's just no time!

I pick her up at 515, am home by 530. I feed LO her dinner while DH makes our dinner. We eat, then it's story time with me, bath time at 630 with daddy, then bottle and bed at 645.

I clean on the weekends....if I have time ;)

I can't remember how old your baby is, but a breakfast she could feed herself would give you time to eat breakfast yourself, at least.

Here's our schedule. My son is 11 mo.
6-630ish, L fusses and I bring him to bed to nurse.
645ish When he's ready to get up, I start my oatmeal, turn on the coffee pot, and get in the shower while he plays.
7 am breakfast - he eats while I eat mine.
Usually my husband gets up around 7 and watches L 7-730 while I get ready for work.
730-8- start car, pack bags and coolers
8-815ish on the road. We have to be at daycare by 9, and I'm supposed to be at work by then too.

PM - by 515 I leave work
530 pick up L
6 pm home, start dinner (sometimes my husband starts dinner for me)
630 eat
7 pm bath, lotion, play, book
730 bedtime
And then I spend probably an hour and a half getting ready for the next day- packing lunches, getting bottles and pump parts ready, setting out clothes, chopping veggies for dinner tomorrow, packing the daycare bag...
Laundry is done as often as possible and I try to fold it while watching tv. We have a cleaning lady who comes every other week or I would have gone insane by now.
Grocery shopping and meal planning happens on Sundays. Target runs/ special shopping happens Saturdays. Amazon is my best friend.

You can do it!

Hi Everyone. If you work out of home, what are your morning and evening routines? When do you do things like laundry and cleaning the bathroom?

I go back to work next month and I'm not really sure how I'm going to fit everything in without it eating into the precious little time I have with my daughter. DH reckons that I will just need to be super organised..... hmm....!

Are you super organised?!

I'd love to hear from working parents of older children, too - do you eat a family dinner every evening? What time do you eat? When do you prepare it? What time do your children go to bed??

It's looking like I'm going to have to set my alarm for 6.30am so I can get up, get DD up, feed her (milk and porridge) and get her washed and dressed in time for DH to take her to daycare at 7.45am. I will then get showered and dressed in fifteen minutes so I can leave the house at 8am for my 25 mile rush hour commute. Then, when I get in, it will be bottle, bath, bed and we can eat dinner at 7.30pm as usual.

However, when she gets older, I'm not sure how I will make dinner in time for us to all sit down and eat together, when I don't get in from work until almost 6pm on a good day...... DH reckons I will need to prepare the dinner the night before but do people really do that? Spend their evenings doing housework, dinner prep etc?! When will I fit my PT University course in?!!

I'm starting to get excited about this next stage in my life..... but I'm not really sure how it's going to work out!!!

How do you fit it all in? Share your tips!
