It's super hectic and I wish we had more time after work to spend with DD, but she does so well with an early bedtime that we dare not mess with it. I usually try to make her meal ahead of time (in the morning or the night before) and just have to heat it up before serving. I also try to cut up fruit the night before or I'll cut it as I feed her. My work schedule is 7:45-6 M-Th, with the tradeoff of working long hours being I have Fridays off - I only see DD for 1.5 hours max during my work days.

Here's our rough schedule:

6:20 - I get home, change, and feed her dinner
6:40 - DH gets home, changes, then we play with DD (go out for a walk, to the playground, or just run around the house). I prep dinner while DH keeps an eye on DD.
7:15 - I get DD's bath ready. I play and sing to her during bath time, and I also teach her body parts. Since I get so little time with her, I maximize bath time!
7:40 - DD is lotioned (word? lol) and PJ'd up, zipped up in her sleep sack, and we nurse while I chat with her a bit.
8:00 - DD is asleep and I begin making dinner.

Some days if DD's second nap ends later, then I would make dinner earlier and eat it with her before doing bath/bedtime but that's usually only 1-2 times a week if that. Maybe when she's older we can eat dinner together as a family, but for now an early bedtime makes for a happy baby.

5PM-DH gets home with the kids
5:30-I get home and start dinner
6:00-6:30-we eat dinner as a family
7:00-I get DS into his pajamas and nurse him; DH cleans up from dinner/takes DD out for a bike ride
7:30-DS goes to bed
8:00-DD gets into pajamas, goes potty, brushes teeth, story, prayers, bed

We try to be home at 6, which means we start our day super early. It's 7:15 and I am already in the office.

After work, we tag team...we eat together, but our son has usually eaten early, around 5 pm. Is it possible that you have your childcare provider give her dinner before you pick her up?

@mrsjazz: we don't do baths in the evening. She only gets 3-4 per week and they are usually in the morning. When she's older, I'll probably start bathing her every day, but for now, I'm kind of relaxed about that! Her bedtime routine is pretty simple... diaper change, pjs/sleep sack, nursing, lullabye, sleep sheep, bed.

So basically, I come home, play or read books for about 15-30 min, then start her bedtime routine.

@mrsjazz: We added a little table next to the tub that's the same height... they eat off of that, and rarely drop food in the tub!

If they do, it's mostly not a big deal... we usually feed them food that can be easily scooped out!

We usually feed M leftovers while we're cooking adult dinner. She starts getting really fussy around 6:30 so I'll usually wear her so we get some closeness time and then I put her down at 7-7:15 and we eat adult dinner after that (with Lala of course).

@mrsjazz: sometimes we prep their food ahead of time and then feed the kids during bath time! They usually eat better in the tub, for some reason... plus it's a real time saver if Olive needs to go down early!!

For the past week and a half my LO starts crying/screaming around 7:30 p.m. and is inconsolable until I get her into bed and nurse her. We realized that this means she is ready for her bed time to be moved earlier, (she used to go down around 8/8:30).

If you work and your child goes to bed around 7/7:30, can you share your schedule? She gets home from child care at 6:20 p.m., so we basically have an hour to do everything, a little play time, dinner, bath, read books. How are you able to get your LO's dinner ready so quickly?
