First, I'm soooo sorry. The boys had pretty severe reflux and it took several months to get it under control with medicine so they woke up a lot, threw up a lot, and were sometimes just really sad, hurting babies. Add to the fact that they were sick aalllll the time and we had some serious work stress this year from missing so much time. It's really hard to keep going at times, but you can do this and it will get better. I wasn't in a position to quit my job at the time, but had I been, it would have been very tempting. Now, we have the occasional sickness, but they're doing great and we haven't had to miss much work at all in the last 3-4 months. I know it sucks, but if you need/want to keep working, I just want to encourage you that, at least for us, there was a light at the end of the tunnel! Big hugs!

Ditto with M. But she was at daycare; they couldn't call me just because she was fussy and didn't want to nap. :P

Eventually it got better!

My son was like that until he was 5 months. I did chiro, elim diet, saw ENT, everything! I was so afraid that his daycare would shake him or something. For the first month I allowed them to feed him as needed even if it was more then the recommended amount (e.g. A 2oz bottle every hour). I don't know if you baby will tolerate being worn but that can help. Truthfully I ended up leaving my job because it was what was best and ironically he is much better now, some of which I attribute to Zantac but mostly I think it just takes some babies longer to adjust to life on the outside :)

@Rainbow Sprinkles: hugs mama! Really hoping M grows out of it soon or that the right meds/diet do the trick! I wish I could help in some way. I would drop off food but I don't want to make something that causes M to have a tough time. I'll try to think of something. In the meantime, hang in there!

*hugs* Its so, so hard having a colicky baby. My LO cried pretty much non-stop for the first four months of her life and we ruled out every possible underlying medical cause. She was just a baby who had a really hard time with emotional regulation.

I was on maternity leave, so I can't speak to your specific situation but I always recommend this site for parents of colicky babies: http://purplecrying.info/ It has resources and support for parents and a section especially for Dads that your husband might find useful and specifically deals with excessive infantile crying with no medical cause.

It will end, I promise. Usually the worst of it is over between 8 and 12 weeks, though I know that felt like an absolute eternity when I was stuck in the middle of it.

Does she calm down with you? I'm not working away right now but my LO fusses a lot if someone else watches her. My mom has been able to a little and DH can sometimes but she's way more upset about not being with momma than my first LO.

I'm so sorry you're going through this....and I'm kind of ignorant, but have you had your second baby thoroughly checked out to make sure it's nothing more than just colic? What with the waking every hour and the constant screaming, I just wonder if something else is going on (and i don't know how old your baby is, either, btw). Just throwing it out there. A chiropractor maybe? Some work on babies and have fantastic success rates

Could a family member watch your older child and then another family member or your dh watch the younger one (if you have a lot of family nearby)? Or a friend?

Or could your dh try taking the younger one outside while the older one is sleeping? (Not sure if you have a yard...)

Lots of hugs. This is one of those times I wish I could donate a few hours of babysitting to a fellow mama. I hope things calm down soon!!

Oh mama I'm so sorry! :(

J had terrible sleep patterns as a newborn. Constant screaming. Can you flex your work hours? DH and I would split overnights, right down the middle. We had my mom watch J during the day though so he didn't get sent home :-( so much love! I know it's miserable.

Does your job allow you to work from home? Would that be an option so that you can care for your LO and squeeze in some work when she's down for a nap or in the evenings?

boy, this is hard.

yesterday, I was called to pick up my LO because her crying was so incessant she could not be calmed down. she was refusing a bottle, too. So, I left work 1.5 hours early.

today, I am working again and the girls are home with DH. He just called me and asked me to come home yet again because DD2 is screaming, woke DD1 up from her nap early, and now both are crying. he hasn't been able to calm her since I left.

this has been going on for weeks. my paychecks are smaller than they have ever been because I just can't put in the hours with a baby at home who constantly needs me.

no one in my family wants to watch the girls because it takes so much work to watch two kids when one of them is very fussy and doesn't sleep for longer than 20 minutes at a time.

DID ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE GO THROUGH THIS? Were you able to just push through it and eventually things worked out? At this point, I have half a mind to quit my job...
