@mrbee: She's salaried--as per our contract she still gets paid for last week even though she didn't work, so it can't be that.

Luckily, I can work from home on Friday instead of using a vacation day.

@mrsjazz: I dunno if she was counting on working last week, and was upset about it? Maybe she's passive aggressively striking back, by taking off a day this week!

@mrbee: I don't know if she was willing to work. She called on Monday morning to find out if we needed her and I said no because we both had off. But then she never called to check in again for the rest of the week. She knows DH is s teacher so probably figured if he was off she didn't have to come in or that we would call her if we needed her but I think it's weird she didn't check in. And she didn't say anything about needing the day off until I contacted her. Ugh.

If I can't work from home sometimes I can get a back-up sitter. I have her go to my MIL's house for extra supervision.

Was your nanny willing to work last week? That would be a big factor in how annoyed I would be!

There are some great places here that offer drop ins!

Right now it would be hard because LO is so needy, so I can only work while she's napping. DH and I would probably try to split the day. Once she's a little older and can play more independently, I'll WFH if our daycare is closed for some reason. MIL has said if we are really stuck she can come down for the day, but she's 3.5 hours away, so I would have to be desperate.

Either DH or I have to take time off, usually me or we split the day if he doesn't have too many meetings.

I would have to take the day off or see of DH could take the day off. If that weren't possible then I'd ask my mom or brother. Then I would be out of options!

Hubs can work from home so for a while that will be our back up care plan.

If baby isn't sick there is a daycare center that will take drop ins if they have room. We have done that a few times and it works out. If he is sick then we often take turns staying home (so either 1/2 day me, 1/2 day him or me on the first day and him the second). I also have 2 people I know with more flexible schedules that I can ask to babysit.

I was off of work all last week because of Sandy. We couldn't work from home either because our servers were down since my job was without power. Our nanny didn't work last week.

I'm back to work tomorrow and our nanny just let us know that she needs to take Friday off. I'm a little peeved because she's going away and she's just telling me today, only after I contacted her to say that DH and I are back to work tomorrow and need her to come.

I'm going to have to take the day off because we don't have back-up child care in place. If I can find someone I trust to watch LO I would do that, but the people I trust will be working!

What do you do if your nanny is out or your day care is closed? Take the day off? Back-up child care?
