We did it cold turkey at 11.5 months and sent sippy straw cups with her solids. It took a few days for her to get it and not rely on bottles. She is still a lazy sippy drinker and she has good days and bad days with the cup!

We're going to stop daytime bottles first but still allow her bedtime one, with whole milk instead of formula.

Why did ped say no more bottles? Just because she is one? Babies can't have bottles anymore once they're twelve months? Why? That's kind if sad....

@MamaG: we're only sending 3 bottles right now.

@Mrs. Stroller: I think we're going to slowly transition her off of it, hopefully by 18 months, but definitely before 2 yrs. It seems so sad to take away the thing that has soothed her for so long. :-(

Are you doing breastmilk or formula/milk in the bottle? My pediatrician said that we can use a bottle with breastmilk for as long as we want with Little M.

FWIW in my mom group we just had this conversation and a bunch of moms with 20m+ kids were still using the bottle. Our pediatrician said it doesn't affect their mouth development, etc. to use a bottle.

Just thought I'd put that out there in case you decide that switching isn't working. good luck!

Our daycare did it for us :) We started a new daycare at one and within 3 days we were done with bottles. They recommended "peer influence". All the other kids were getting sippy cups and she would follow their lead. We also don't take sippy cups to daycare. She just uses the ones they supply.

How many bottles is she currently getting per day? We had already decreased to three per day when we quit.

I sent sippy cups with the usual bottles and they would try each feeding with the sippy first and DS would drink as best he could and then he was allowed to finish using his bottle when necessary. They suggested it and worked with him on the sippy way more than I did.

The pediatrician said no more bottles. We're trying to figure out what to send to daycare. Do we still send bottles? Or quit cold turkey? How did you make the change?

I was thinking of doing it gradually because I know it's going to be a huge shock to her, since that's all she's had all of her life.
