7.5 months here, have been back at work and pumping since 12 weeks. Hoping to make it to 2 years, but would be thrilled with 1 year - so far, so good. I go home at lunch, though, so I only have to pump twice a day.

I took a 12 week maternity leave, and EBF for about 13 months. Around that time I started winding down by pumping less at work (when I first went back I pumped 4x in my 8.5 hour day, plus before I left I the morning and before I went to bed, by the time DS was a year I wound down to just 2x at work, then just once) at he started losing interest, my supply dropped, I eventually quit cold turkey and I don't think DS could have cared less. I had a big enough freezer stash that he got BM until about 14 months when we started cutting in cows milk.

We have a mothers room at work, although I wish I was in y own office so I could keep working... Instead I just read the whole Harry potter series, haha :)

Good luck!

We've hit a year and though he's starting to wean, I've been able to pump twice a day at work. My boss doesn't like that I take time to pump but it's the law and I've never really engaged her on the subject. She's made it clear she doesn't approve of lots of things that are none of her business but she's a bit of a silly person and I try not to let it bother me. Again, it's the law.

I made it a year, no formula! And beyond, when I stopped pumping and offered cow's milk during the day. Hope to do that same this time... I'm at 4.5 months and counting!

@ladyfingers: My LO is 8.5 months old, and he is still exclusively breastfed. I pump 3x day at work, once more at night after he goes to bed, and I nurse first thing in the morning and before bed. I've been back at work FT since mid-October, and the hardest time was definitely the first month or so. Hard to get used to so many breaks, worried about getting enough milk, etc. To this day, my LO has never had a drop of formula.

I'll echo others and say that it's helpful to have both support at work and a network of online or real life friends to cheer you on. Good luck, and please let us know if you need some support!

LO is 10 months, and we're still going. I worked from home for awhile and now part-time out-of-home, but LO has been mostly full-time at daycare since 3 months. I pumped 3x during the work day through about 6 months. Now I do one side before she wakes up in the AM and then pump 2x at work.

Definitely do-able if you have the right support at work -- good luck!

I was able to pump for 10 months, until LO was just shy of 13 mos. I only pumped 2x a day at work, which helped. I had a shared office but was able to pump under the cover and use the hands free bra which helped me use my time effectively. It can be a pain and some days are better than others but it was sooo worth it! I did add a 3rd pumping session after LO went to bed for months 9-12 but this was after a nasty cold caused a big drop in my supply.

LO is now 15 months and I continue to nurse morning and evening although I dayweaned. It has been such a great part of our relationship!

So it definitely is possible but you will have to see how it works for you. Good luck!

@hellobeeboston: I do this now. My options are to (1) give LO 2 bottles of 4.5 oz of BM and one 4.5oz bottle of F, or (2) to give LO 3 bottles of 3oz BM and 1.5oz F. I opted for the latter because LO was barely drinking half of her third bottle. I am also planning to start day weaning soon, and want to transition her to F gradually.

I'm at 4.5 months and last week supplemented with formula for the first time. He's had about 4 bottles of half breast milk and half formula... I'm hoping to get back to 100% breast milk, but it did take off some of the stress when, for whatever reason, my supply was down & I couldn't make enough, so we had to add a little in.

I'm OK with it once in a while, but my goal is to make it as long as possible breast feeding, so we'll see!

I did have some supply issues when I first went back to work, but I just made sure to pump before he woke up in the morning and before I went to bed and it worked out. Now I don't have to do that anymore. He'll be a year in less than a month and has never has formula! You can do it!!

I've had to supplement 1 bottle of formula since she was born. Besides that she's EBF and she is now just over 10 months. I'm optimistic to make it to a year now despite some supply issues last month. I'll likely wean nursing before pumping.

I pump 3x a day and won't be introducing cows milk till at least 13months.

I breastfed and pumped exclusively until he was 5.5 months old which is when he started solids. From 10 weeks to 9 months old I worked a normal 6 am - 4 pm job. At 9 months I started teaching college and was able to go to him and nurse him more than pump. At 12 months I quite pumping all together. He is still nursing at 23 months old. We will be done at 24 months old.

@littlebittyhouse: I dropped a session 2 months ago. At first it started by accident because work got super busy. I did deal with a clogged duct initially but everything balanced out. I do yield about the same amount (at first I wasn't, so I took More Milk Plus, started eating oatmeal every day, and upped my water intake). I pump about 12/13 oz. at work.

LO takes 15 oz. during the day.

LO is almost ten months and I WOHM and she is still breastfed. I stopped pumping because I wasn't getting very much so now I only pump at work if I am very engorged. I am only gone for 6.5-7.5 hours each day, so she usually doesn't get any breastmilk while I am gone. But she eats lots of solids and sometimes gets almond milk with her meals to up her calorie intake. If I was gone for longer periods during the day I would definitely still be trying to pump enough for bottles for her.

I went back to work at 3mo and am still pumping/nursing my 8mo old. I pump hands free 3x per day and use that time to distract myself with HB usually.

Sometimes pumping is easy (today for example) other days are hard due to work constraints or just the fact that I don't want to pump LOL. My supply dipped a bit after going back to work but I was always able to bring home enough for the next day. When I first came back to work I was brining home 18-22oz of milk and now it is about 15-17oz. I had one major supply dip that I think was caused by a virus and and since I have my own office I was able to close my door and power pump for the hour if I needed to.

All in all a really great experience for me so far. I love that I get to provide this for my LO and I really look forward to our nursing sessions together. I honestly feel really lucky that I have such a supportive environment!

LO is almost 11 months and we are still going strong. I went from 3 to 2 pumping sessions at work. I usually do 2 15-20 minute sessions (for a total of 20-30 minutes away from my desk) but I don't feel bad about the time away since I use my time for lunch as pumping sessions.

I pump once more before bed.

I don't know how long I will continue, I am willing to keep pumping until 18 months, but I do want to drop to 1 pump session at work eventually (maybe 2 pumps a day?)

I was doing well until I got sick for the first time last week. My supply always stayed great and I didn't run into any plugged duct problems or anything but when I got sick, I was constantly afraid of mastitis (I got it the first day back at work!) and I was so weak I could barely sit up long enough to pump. It's been tough scheduling in 4 pumps a day with 2 kids and a full time job, so Wagon Sr. and I were talking about stopping soon, especially since LMW is almost 8 months and I have a good frozen stash. So since I had to take decongestants for the most debilitating sinus headache ever, (and decongestants are a lactation suppressant) I took the opportunity to go down to 3 pumps a day. My supply has gone down about 10 oz / day and I'm now just BARELY pumping enough for her each day. I'll probably continue with 3 pumps a day for at least another month or so then keep dropping pump sessions gradually.

For me it's really just the complexity of the two kids and all the stuff I need to do every day. I would have loved to make it to a year but it's a HUGE time commitment. Having to drop everything to be unavailable to work or kids 4 times a day for 20 mins each is difficult to maintain every single day. Also, for me it was exclusive pumping, no nursing after she was about 12 weeks old.

@ladyfingers: I have a private office and good environment, too. You're lucky that your LO is so close! Hopefully it will be a smooth transition for you!

@MrsJYW: Yep - I also planned to make it to a year, but after a couple of months, I changed my goal to 6 months, and then just a week/month at a time after that. I also see a big diff in my supply during the week too.

I work part time (differen amount of hours each week) so I'm not sure if this counts but I did pump at work. We EBF'd for 21 months. At 13 months LO did get 8 oz of a prescription formula but that was because he did not eat solids and did not influence BFing.

I went back to work at 4 months and I was able to nurse and pump with no supply issues for 5 more months. I dried up right after getting a BFP and I had to wean when LO was 9 months old.
