Went back at 9 wks half time, 13 wks full hours. I work shifts and have different schedules. Up until 4 mo I pumped every morning after first wake up nursing session no matter what. Built up my freezer stash that way but also donated a ton because I had too much! LO is now almost 9 mo. My work pumping schedule has not changed.

Work 8-3pm: nurse at wake up, pump around 7am before leaving, pump at noon, nurse when I get home.

Work 3-11pm: nurse before work, pump at 6:30pm, nurse after work first MOTN wake up.

Work 8am-11pm: nurse first am wake up, pump 7am, go to work pump noon and 6pm, nurse after work first MOTN wake up.

I still pump more than she drinks most days and freeze about 10 oz per week. I don't pump on none work days (I work average 4 shifts per week).

@Raindrop: it sounds so crazy, but it's really the only way I can make it work with a long commute, long hours and really busy work environment.

I get all set up at home (hands free bra, flanges, etc all hooked up, nursing cover over it all) and I have a freestyle pump (battery operated). I just pump during my commute (12 hour shift so it's pretty dark both ways - that helps me feel more comfortable but I've done it midday too). I empty into bags in the parking lot before walking into the hospital.

I went back to work at 8 weeks. I worked 8:45-3:45. As a teacher, I didn't have much downtime to pump at work and since I lived pretty close to work, I pumped right before I left and when I got home. Our schedule went something like this-

Nurse around 6am
Pump at home at 8am
Pump at work at 12pm
Pump at home at 4pm
Nurse around 6pm
Nurse again before bedtime (8:30-9ish)

I would also sometimes pump before I went to bed around 11 in order to add to my freezer stash. I had a good sleeper who rarely woke up to eat before 2 or 3 am, so I didn't worry about him waking up right after I'd pumped.

@Raindrop: I have pumped in the car when I'm desperate--I have a car adapter, and I find a not-busy corner of the parking lot, get all set up, drape an A&A blanket or a scarf over the bottles, and just drive! Whatever you do, don't make eye contact with anyone at a stop light. ;)

I was away 10 hours - 8:00am - 6:00pm
I pumped 3 times at work: 9, 12, 3
I nursed 6am, 6pm, bedtime (8ish at that age) and overnight.

I dropped one pump at 8 months and another at 11 months, and continued nursing.

I pumped 3x/day at work. Still nursing at 16 months, but quit pumping at 12. I only worked 3-4 days and we nursed on demand when we were together.

Went back to work at 12 weeks

Nursed at 6am
Pumped at 12pm
Pumped at 3 pm
Nursed 6pm
Nursed before her bed
Pumped again before my bed

The older she got (I'd say starting around 9 months), the more I spaced that out and dropped sessions.

I went back to work part time at 12 weeks. I only work 2 days / week but my days are very long so I end up EPing on the days that I work.

First pump in the car as I drive to work at 5:30am
Second pump at work at 10am
Third pump at work at 3pm
Fourth pump in the car on my way home at 8pm

J is almost 7 months old and takes either 6 or 7 bottles (4.5oz each) while I'm gone.

Returned to work at 12 weeks:

6:30 - feed before we leave (sometimes this is a top off if she wakes up at 5)
9:30 am - pump
12:30 pm - pump
3:30 pm - pump
5:30 - feed
7:30 - feed (we try with the bottle and then do breast (she eats a lot at night because she's not a fan of the bottle during the day)
9:30 - bedtime feed

sometimes there is an occasional MOTN feed anywhere between 1 am - 3 am. (she is 3 months as of Saturday)

I usually pump 4-6 oz each session at work which is usually enough for the next day at daycare. Once she starts eating more (comfortable with the bottle) I'll have to add a night time pump session to make up for it.

I went back to work around 14 weeks. Our schedule was basically:
- Nurse at wakeup and often once more before leaving
- Daycare drop-off at 8:30, work by 9
- Pump - 10am, 1pm, 4pm
- Daycare pick-up at 5:30, home by 6 and nurse
- Bedtime between 7:30 and 8, nurse
- Nurse as needed overnight

We did this until 12 months but we slowly dropped nursing sessions so by 12 months, it was once in the morning and once at before bed. I kept the same pump schedule the whole time.

went back to work when LO was 14 weeks....
5am - feed
6:45am - feed (top off - only did this about a month)
8am - drop at daycare
9:40 - pump
12:30 - pump
4:00 - pump
5pm - pick up from daycare
6pm - get home, feed
8:30pm - feed
1am - feed

I had low supply issues after going back to work - I would only pump maybe 11-12oz a day total by 5 months we had used all the freezer stash and started supplementing 1 bottle a day with formula. I continued to breast feed until 15 months.

@yellowbird: By the time I went back to work, LO was 5 months old and I just had 2 weeks until winter break. Over winter break, I cut down to 5 pumps a day, total--5:45 am, 9 am, 1 pm, 4 pm, and around 8 pm before bed.

When LO was 6.5 months old, I cut down to 4 pumps a day and at work I only pumped once, and then pumped while driving home each day (from 3-4 pm) instead of waiting till I got home. So at work, I usually pumped around 10:30 am and then again at 3 while driving home.

I had a great supply until I got a sinus infection followed by a stomach virus that cut my supply almost in half--I went from pumping about 45 oz a day to pumping about 22 oz a day....with Mother's Milk Tea and some MM+, I got back up to 28ish oz a day. But I always had one huge pump in the morning--I could get 16-19 oz in the morning in one pumping session while I did my hair and makeup. Every other pump of the day would be 5-7 oz total.

I returned to work when E was 8 weeks old. I was away from him 6-6.

On a typical day, he would eat around 5 and go back to sleep. I would pump while I was getting ready for work, at 9, 12, and 3. I would pick him up from daycare and we would nurse when we got home and before bed. I would pump again about an hour after he went to bed. I struggled with keeping my supply up and and needed the extra pump session to have enough oz. I exclusively nursed on days we were together, but would still keep the pump session after he went to sleep to make up for any shortages during the week.

We kept this up until he turned one, then he got WCM during the day. We continued to nurse at bedtime until 15 months or so.

I only work OOH two days per week but on those days I leave the house at 6:30am, pump at 9, 12, 3, feed when I get home at 6pm. I had a huge stash from when I was on maternity leave and I'm so glad I did because lately I haven't been pumping enough at work to meet LO's needs. I'm usually 3-4oz short but I think I have enough frozen to make it until 12 mos without having to add more pumps during the week/weekend. We nurse on demand when I'm home and DD still wakes 2-3x/night, which is awful. :bummed:

I’m an exclusive pumper (EPer).

I went back to work at 19 weeks (I live in California and took almost the max time of I could). At this time I am only pumping 4x a day.

I leave the house around 7:30am and come home about 7:00pm. Currently my mom is living with us and taking care of the kids at our home. Eventually when LO is a little older we will just drop the kids off at her house when we go to work which will add about an hour to our commute but it’s worth it.

I pump at 6am (at home – 9 oz), 12:30pm (at work – 7 oz), 6:00pm (at work but I drive home right after this pump – 7 oz) and at 11pm (at home – 7 oz), each session is about 20 minutes.

Hopefully in a few months I can drop a pump and go home earlier! :)

Good luck! Don’t worry too much it will work out.

@Anagram: did you pump anymore throughout the evening/night?

I'm trying a new pumping schedule today but who knows if it will work long term. I'm way too busy to pump at work this time.

With dd I would feed at 6:30, pump at 9:30, 12:30, 3:30 and nurse all evening. I stopped pumping at 10 months and went through my freezer stash.

This time I'm pumping at 6:00 feed at 7:15, pump at 12:30, feed/pump at 4:30 nurse all evening til bedtime and pump again at 9:30pm

It was different for me, because I EPd, but I woke up in the morning and pumped before work at 5:45 am (so you would nurse then), then pumped twice at work at about 9 and 1, then pumped when I got home at 4 (you could nurse again at that point).

I leave the house at 6:40 and get home around 4:15 every day, so my schedule was shifted earlier.

I went back to work at 12 weeks. I was away from 8:30-5:00. I pumped twice at work, usually 10:00 and 2:00. We nurses on demand at home. I pumped until she was 12 months and two days old, then quit. We nursed morning and night for another two months before she dropped her bedtime session. H is currently nursing once a day at nearly 21 months.

I went back to work at 7 weeks. Leave house at 7:20; pick up from daycare at 5:15.

When I first started back I pumped 4x for 15-20 minutes. Around 2-1/2 months I went to 3x at work for 20-25 minutes.
We are at 7 months now and thinking about going to 2x per day at work. I do pump at 6:50 every morning as well and bring that bottle to daycare.
I'd like to quit pumping and nurse morning/night if possible. Right now I nurse at 6 pm, 8:30, and then twice at night, usually 2:30 and 5:30.
I've had no issues with nursing morning/night and him taking bottles during the day.

I returned to work at 3 months with LO2. Leave house at 7:15, pick up at daycare at 5 PM.

Feed at 6:50/7 AM. Pump at 9, 12, and 3 for 30 minutes to get a total of about 16 oz. Nurse him at least once before dinner (though depends on whether he was given a 4th bottle at daycare). Then nurse him before bed and a dream feed around 10:30. I think he's dropping a bottle soon (he's 7 months) because of solids, so I might go to a 10 AM and 2 PM pumping schedule sometime in the next month or so.

Good luck!

Returned to work at 8 weeks.
Away from him from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Pump at 6:30 AM (after his 6 AM feed), 9 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM. Nursed him at 6 AM and 6 PM.

At 6 months I changed to 10 AM and 2PM (keeping the 6:30 AM pump).

I WFH 2 days a week and would nurse him during that time.

This schedule has worked for us! I don't actually think that 6:30 AM pump was necessary (I ended up with 1800 ounces in the freezer at 9 months), but I'm really glad I did it as I never had to worry about not having enough. Added bonus was that I could pump wean during work at 9 months (as I had enough in the freezer to get us to a year).

I know this has come up before, and I fully intend to comb through old threads, but I wanted a fresh one as well.

I anticipate going back to work when LO2 is around 12 wks, and I am really anxious about pumping. I never really did with E, as I was home with him until after he weaned.

When did you go back to work? How old is your LO and how long are you away from them? How often during the day are you able to pump? Are you still nursing when you are with them? I'm hoping if I can work out the logistics now I'll be less anxious aout it then...
