@lovehoneybee: Plan extra time into your routine, especially at first. I was amazed at how long it takes to run a brush over my LO's hair and to put her coat/sweater on. Everything always takes longer, especially when I am trying to stick to a timeline. And doing things the night before--and pre-planning a little (like outfits for the week) will be your best friend, especially without backup in the mornings. Just knowing what LO is going to wear (down to her socks and shoes) and having the car loaded makes the morning run so much more smoothly.

Thank you for all the responses! It's quite helpful to get some sort of an idea of how I should try to structure our days.

I live about 25 minutes from the daycare and work 10-15 minutes from there. He'll be at daycare from 8-5:30, and I think I'm going to have to cut his nighttime sleep a bit short to make it all work :crying: (He currently sleeps 13-14 hours overnight...)

Unfortunately, because of D's schedule, he'll never be here in the evenings to help. He says he'll get up and help in the AM, but he does not do mornings well, especially if he's not getting home until 1-2am. It's really upsetting me to think about how little they'll be seeing each other during the week, sigh....

5:30 alarm goes off
5:35 alarm goes off
5:40 alarm goes off, husband yells at me to get up, I'm going to be late.
5:43 shower.
6:04 I am dressed and ready to go.
6:05 wake up toddler.
6:10 hopefully making our way downstairs to breakfast.
6:30 notice toddler has only eaten half of her food and is still eating. Slowly. Way. Too. Slowly. Know there is going to be a battle in about 8 minutes.
6:38 time to get in the car. Commence screaming.
6:42 strapped in, leaving driveway.
6:58 arrive at daycare 3 minutes late.
7:05 leave daycare.
7:33 arrive at work 3 minutes late.

I seriously need 10 more minutes in the morning that doesn't come from an earlier time!! I need to start my work day at 7:40. It's just the truth of it all.

I don't have a set schedule, really, I do a lot the night before so I can get ready in the morning in 15 minutes.

I go to bed VERY early, so it cuts out a lot of time to do things during the week, but I need A LOT of sleep to function.

5:00 am--wake up. Work out, put dishes away, get ready etc.
6:00--E wakes up
6:30-Feed her some breakfast, play with her, get her ready (i pack our bags the night before). IF she sleeps in, she does breakfast at daycare.
7:00-leave for daycare
7:05-daycare drop off
7:30-4:00--I work. DH works 6-230
4:00-DH picks up E
5:30--dinner (all of us)
6:00--bath. put on pajamas
6:45--E bed time
7:00-9:00-shower, pack daycare bags, prep food for the next day, pack gym bag, clean house, start laundry, do diapers, whatever needs to be done.
9:00--DH and me bedtime.

Sometimes i also work out after work and get home at 6:00. Those are heat up dinner or crockpot dinner nights, and DH feeds E early and I eat my dinner while sitting on the toilet and watching her in the bathtub :P Not glamorous, but it happens about 2x/week.

I do woh but I take A with me so I know it's not the same but we still have to box smart to get ready and out.

6.30-7 - up and nurse.
7 - A plays while I make her breakfast and prep her milk and water cups and try prep my breakfast
7.10 - get A in highchair and eating. If DH is up at a similar time he watches her while I shower, if not then I bring her highchair into the bathroom so she can eat while I shower
7.20 - do makeup and get ready quickly then eat my own breakfast
7.50 - Change A's diaper, clean her up after breakfast and get her dressed for the day
8.05 - Both clean teeth
8.10 - we leave home to catch the subway and get to work at about 8.30 but this last week we've been leaving 5/10 mins later and we need to pull it back.
5.40 - arrive home, grab A à snack and she plays while I either heat up a dinner that we made Sunday, or make à fresh one that I hopefully prepped some of Sunday
6.15 - eat dinner together
7 ish - bath A then pjs
7.30 - stories, night nights and bed
8 - leave A after getting her down
8-8.30 - prep next day's dinner, clean highchair and floor, clean kitchen
9 - cup of tea and chill
9.30-11ish - DH time then bed

Sometimes this works really well, other times I feel like the apartment is never clean and I never get any me time. Since A is at work with me I don't have to factor playing with her into our evening, which helps with time.

ETA: When I don't have to bundle us up in so much winter gear it will shave off at least 5 minutes. I also don't need to pack à bag for her which helps loads.

My day looks pretty much like @Sammyfab: except i pick LO up around 4:45 and she doesn't fall asleep until 8:45pm. Seriously, how come all of your LOs go to bed so early??

I find the biggest thing that helps with the routine is lots of planning and prep. I rarely shower in the mornings, and i have our lunches ready in the fridge and bags by the door. Because no matter how "ready" i am, there's always stuff that goes down to delay getting out. I also have dinner prepped the night before, especially on nights that i'm flying solo.

LO will usually play in the kitchen while i try to clean up. Right now she's happy playing with water in two basins, and that'll give me about 15-20 minutes to do dishes and put stuff away.

It takes a while to get into a groove, so don't worry if it takes some time. Everyone is different and sometimes it depends on how your LO is that day!

6 - DH and I get up, normally one of the boys is up too. We alternate showering, getting ready with feeding them cups of milk, changing and dressing them for the day.
6:30ish - DH leaves for work if it's a morning meeting day for him, I leave by 7 to 7:15 with the boys for daycare drop-off. If it's not a meeting day, he leaves when I do and will take them in for me.
7:30-8 - I commute to work
8-4:45 - work
4:45-5:45 - leave for daycare pick up, get home by 5:45. Some days DH can pick them up in which case I just head straight home, but leave at 5 instead.
5:45-6 - play outside in the front yard with neighbors if they're home too
6-6:20 - heat up dinner for boys that was made night before, or what's cooking in the crockpot.
6:20-6:40 - bathtime for boys
6:40-7:15 - playtime
7:15-7:30 - cup of milk, brush teeth, bedtime for boys

Life is anything but typical right now. But on a regular work day, our schedule looked like this.

Mornings:
6:30 - I get up, shower, get dressed and get ready for work
7:00 - get LO up. If he is still sleeping (maybe 50% of the time), we let him sleep in until 7:30 at the latest
7:30 - breakfast
8:00 - out the door for daycare

Afternoons / Evenings:
5:00 - pick up LO from daycare
5:10 - get home, prep dinner while LO plays
5:45-6:00 - DH gets home, eat dinner together
6:15-6:45 - play time
6:45-7:00 - bedtime routine, he gets a bath maybe every other day now
7:15-7:30 - in bed. 7:30 is usually the latest he is in bed and he is often asleep by 7:30-7:45.
7:30-10 - clean up, go to the gym, relax, watch TV, work, whatever...

When we were both working although we still try to keep the same schedule on her daycare days.

Wake up: 6-630am depending on what time she wakes up! :P
DH takes dog out, feeds dog, I change LO for the day. DH finishes up when he's done with the dog. Then I go shower and get ready. While I'm getting ready he feeds LO breakfast and gets her dayare bag ready.
Out the door by 715-720am.
DH drops me off at train station then drops lO off.

DH picks up LO then picks me up at the train station and we're home by 4:45pm.
Play for a bit then start making dinner at 5pm.
LO usually asks for a snack.
Dinner on table 6:00-6:15pm.
DH gives bath after dinner and I do clean up or vice versa.
Bedtime for LO around 7-730p depending on her mood and nap for the day.

On the nights he works late I usually tackle clean up after she goes to bed.

She's almost 23 months.

515-600 I get ready
545-630 R wakes up. I leave her in the crib as long as I can.
615ish - make her breakfast and load up the car
630-640 leave for day care
700ish - arrive at day care, she eats breakfast (I make) there
435ish- pick up at day care
515-530 get home
545 - R eats dinner and then play time
620 - bath
645 - books
700- usually she is asleep

I then cook/eat dinner, make my salad for next day, prep her dinner, watch TV, talk to DH (phone), and bedtime around 930.

We pay for school lunch which includes her milk and two snacks. I prep as much food as I can over the weekends. Sweet potatoes are the only veggies she will always eat, so I make those on Sunday nights. Laundry is usually done on the weekends.

I’m VERY lucky that LO’s daycare is on the same campus as my employer, so I don’t have to factor extra commute time between daycare and work into my schedule anymore.

My hours are pretty flexible, as long as I’m in the office for “core hours”, and as long as I work at least 40 hours a week.

LO eats a small breakfast at home (milk plus cereal or a scrambled egg or fruit) and then all the kids start their day at the table having milk and breakfast (cereal/muffin/banana bread/etc.) at school.

We all wake up around 6:45am and DH takes LO and gets her breakfast while I shower and get ready. LO and I leave at by 7:45 and I get to my office by 8:30. I eat breakfast at work.

I leave around 5:30, get LO and we get home around 6:15. She gets dinner pretty much right away (usually our leftovers from the previous night, or I’ll premake pasta or chicken or something that can be quickly warmed and add a veg and fresh fruit + yogurt to her plate). She goes to sleep at 8pm. We eat dinner after she goes to sleep.

Rinse and repeat M-F

6:00/6:30am- I wake up, walk dog, do makeup/hair and get dressed.
7:00-7:30am- LO wakes up or I wake her up by 7:30 at latest. I give her some milk and get her dressed for daycare. It makes it easier that each Monday I bring a bin with clothes for the week, diapers, wipes, etc, so each day I do not need to bring a lot of stuff. I have a little baggie each day with her sippy and bottle, and pack her blankie as well.
7:45am- out the door! (her provider feeds her breakfast and lunch + snacks)
8:45am-3:45pm- Work
4:45pm- Arrive at Daycare and pickup LO
5:00pm- Home- we then walk the dog, I start dinner, LO plays/etc.
6:00pm- Dinner on table
6:30pm- Bathtime
7:30pm- LO in bed

Horay! I can contribute to this thread!! I've been back at work for 5 weeks now and its going really well. My house is still clean, we still eat dinner, it's all good!!! The only thing we're not managing to do is walk the dogs daily.

At the weekend:

- Clean the house thoroughly
- Fill both cars with petrol
- Plan a week's worth of meals and do a weekly shop
- Walk the poor dogs!!

The night before I:

- Sterilise bottles
-Lay out breakfast things (like out a spoon full of coffee in the cups and everything!!).
- Lay out my clothes and DD's outfit
- Pack the daycare bag (apart from the bottles)
- Make sure there is somewhere for E to sit in every room and a toy to distract her with!

Morning:

- Alarm goes off at 6.45am.
- I go downstairs and put the kettle on/make breakfast for E/put the bottles in the daycare bag
- DH makes the bed and gets showered/dressed
- While DH is showering, I wake E up, change her bum, take her downstairs and feed her breakfast.
- DH comes downstairs in work uniform and takes over breakfast while I get showered
- DH dresses DD while I put make up on/dry hair
- DH leaves for work at 7.30am. DD hangs out with me in the bedroom while I finish getting ready.
- DD bounces in jumperoo while I tidy up breakfast things and put a load of laundry in.
- We leave the house at 7.45am and I drop her at daycare
- I arrive at work 30 miles away at 9am and eat my instant porridge pot at my desk!

Evening:

- One of us collects DD and we all arrive home at 5.30pm ish.
- Put load of wet laundry in tumble dryer
- Play with DD for half an hour
- 6pm. One of us feeds DD her bottle while the other runs the bath
- One baths DD while the other puts laundry away, changes DD's bed linen, empties the nursery bin and tidies upstairs.
- 6.30pm. DD is bathed, dressed and put to bed and we start making dinner.
- While one person makes dinner, the other person tidies downstairs, puts toys away, takes out the rubbish (trash) etc.
- When dinner is finished, the dishwasher is loaded (including bottles). Cue 2.5 hours chill time together.
- When the dishwasher is finished, I empty it and [see "night before" section]

G is almost 9 months old

-Between 6-6:30 G wakes up (and we wake up when she does) and gets 7oz
-DH feeds her while I get ready, then we switch and I play with her for a bit/get her dressed/get bag together (I make her breakfast + lunch night before)
-We are out the door by 7:15
-DH takes her to daycare 7:30, we both are at work by 8am
-I get off at 4:30, go get G, am home by 5. I either start dinner or we just play around until
-DH gets home at 5:30. We try to all eat, but if not, this is when G eats
-Depending on her mood, it's either straight to bath or more playtime
-Bath sometime between 6-6:30
-Bed between 6:30-7

After dinner we eat if we need to, clean the kitchen, make her food for the next day, and hang out together. Usually in bed by 10

ETA: It took me several months to get my groove, but now I think I really have a good system and we can get out the door in 30 mins in the morning if need be!

This is the IDEAL schedule...but lets be honest, more often than not, it's about 15 mins pushed back.

5:00am wake up and get ready
5:30 wake R up and feed her bottle/ get her dressed/ get daycare bags prepped
6:00 leave house
6:15 get to daycare--she eats breakfast there
7:00 get to work
2:30 leave work
3:15 pick up R
3:30-5:00 play with R and/or run errands
5:30 R's dinner and bathtime
6:00p R's bedtime
6:00-7:30/8: Make dinner, get bottles prepped, clean, laundry, etc
Aim to be asleep by 10

*My husband is often working until 6:30 or later so I handle most of the schedule by myself

*I shower and do my hair at night...there is NO way I could do it in the morning, particularly the mornings R wakes up on her own
