I stopped pumping around 10-10.5 months as I had enough of a freezer stash to take him to 1 year. His birthday is on Saturday and I seriously think I"m done with my stash this weekend. He nursed in the morning and night up until about 3 weeks ago not for any other reason than he was done. I probably could have gone longer.

Thanks for all of the great advice! I have to laugh because event though I thought I had totally retired the pump last week, I am pumping as I type this! I was out for the evening and LO wouldn't nurse when I saw him tonight so I thought I might as well pump now. Nervous to stop, cold turkey.

I am so happy to hear that you've had success with nursing still after stopping pumping. I am hoping my body regulates over time because I would really like to keep nursing, if he'll have it :)

@MamaMoose: I did half and half and when she drank that no problem, I just went cold turkey. She didn't care! I would just cut one pump out a week. Your supply should handle it just fine. You may be uncomfortable for a day or two but it gets better fast! It's totally different for everyone but just go with your gut. That's the best real advice I can offer. On weekends, let her nurse when you would pump, if you want to. If I remember correctly I did "don't offer, don't refuse" at just before and just after 1 year.

@mediagirl: so her room actually transitioned from an infant room to a toddler room this week. They are giving her milk in a sippy cup once a day and bottles twice a day. She takes it from the sippy cup no problem, and she hasn't noticed the cow's milk mixed into her Breastmilk. But I'm nervous she won't take cows milk straight!

I stopped pumping right after his birthday. We're still nursing just fine two months later. I'm pretty sure it's mostly comfort & only one is a really "good" session. Most of his nutrition is coming from table food & cows milk.

@MamaMoose: I give you major props. I quit before 12 months. :-) Does she not like cows milk? Have you tried sippy cups at all? What's the plan with daycare, when will she transition to the next room? I ask the last Q because my daycare doesn't allow bottles in the 1s room.

I stopped pumping at 13 months and used my freezer stash to ease the transition to whole milk both during the week at daycare and on weekends. We were able to keep nursing morning and evenings only until about 19/20 months when LO dropped the evening feed on her own. She just dropped the morning in the past few weeks, so around 22 months? My supply was able to keep up without a problem.

Good luck!

DS has 1 nursing session in the morning and drinks almond milk throughout the day. He'll be one in a week. We started the transition 1.5 wks ago to almond milk. I stopped pumping two wks ago. No hinderance on AM nursing session. and little to no discomfort throughout the day.

I dropped to just one pump at work when LO was 13 months, and my supply tanked. My let down had been getting progressively slower so LO was frustrated when he was trying to nurse so I just quit over the next few days. My LO was never really a comfort nurser though, I don't think he cared at all when we stopped (which hurt my feelings actually!)

I am not at this point yet, but have been asking a lot of my "mommy" friends about it - general experience seems to be that, after weaning the pump, they were able to nurse at wake up and bedtime for as long as they/LO wanted or until they got pregnant again.

I'm in the transtion period now. I now pump twice a day instead of three times. LO gets three bottles a day at school. Right now they are 2/3 breastmilk and 1/3 wcm. My pumping output is definitely decreasing on the new schedule. But LO still nurses great morning and night (and MOTN) and I seem to have fine supply at those times.

LO turned one last week (!) and I decided to stop pumping. He is now taking one bottle of WCM and 2 bottles of either formula or frozen BM at daycare. We will be working toward 100% WCM in a few weeks.

Even though I had not been that diligent about pumping at work in the last month or so that I was doing it (I pumped when I got home some days), I am wondering how my supply will fare since we plan on continuing nursing for the time being.

How did you supply do after you stopped pumping at work? Were you able to continue nursing? If so, for how long?
