We had to bring my LO in for a time because she wouldn't take a bottle. I loved it, she loved it... but it did mess up the work flow a bit.

@Bookworm: You could have a frozen bag of pumped milk and an extra bottle there just in case, if they'll let you do that? I have a couple of frozen bags at my daycare just in case he has a spurt with a particularly hungry day.

@brownie: @Mrs. Bee: Awesome, good to know that's enough time! I had a feeling it would be, but I wasn't sure. I love the idea of getting in some baby time in the middle of the day!

@ladyfingers: She's going to be about 8w when she goes in. I do worry that I won't be able to go every day, because occasionally I have events that I will have to attend at lunch time, but I think that'll only be once or twice a month... not often enough to screw up the schedule, hopefully!

I didn't because with the location of our daycare (45min from work). I would say it depends upon the type of work you do, if there is a chance you may get tied up and not be able to go because of meetings or such then maybe not. However, you can always start out with doing it once you return and if it doesn't work out then just send pumped bottles and pump instead of nursing for lunch.

How old will your LO be when they go into daycare? It's different for every baby, but by the time LO was 12 weeks old (when he entered daycare) 30 minutes would have been more than enough time. He typically takes a full feeding in 15 minutes these days.

Initially I had planned to go to daycare over lunch and nurse him, but ended up not for a couple of reasons. I didn't want to worry about not being over to make it over there, and sometimes I need to use my lunch break to run errands that are hard to do with a baby. Also, I didn't want to take the chance of showing up when he's napping or if he'd just fed (since he's still pretty young, they feed and nap on demand). It just seemed like it would be difficult and I didn't want to ask them to put him off if he happened to be hungry one day at 11:30.

But that being said, I know a lot of women do this, and it's a great idea! I think when they're young enough, you don't have to worry about separation anxiety -- it's when they get to be 9, 10 months that it might become more of an issue.

our daycare said that i could come and nurse olive at lunchtime. i work from home and daycare is only a block and a half away. but i thought it would be more of a distraction (especially since charlie is there too), so i opted not to. besides... she was 16 months old! :)

if i had a baby thought i might have considered it! 30 minutes to nurse should be enough time!

I went and nursed at lunch. 30 minutes is plenty of time to get a full feeding in. It will also help stimulate your production and make sure you keep your supply up. It was also great to see him in the middle of the day.

To be able to nurse at lunch was a big factor in what daycare we selected. Being able to go every day and nurse instead of pump for one session really helped my supply stay up. It was important that I was able to be there on time each day as they would time the morning bottles around an expected nursing session so if you were late, you have a hungry baby and our daycare did their best to keep C happy while he waited for me, which isn't always easy. Usually around lunch time C would get sleepy so I'd nurse him and try to keep him awake as much as possible so some nursing sessions were shorter than others. I would say a nursing session was about 20 minutes or so give or take and as C got older he got more efficient. I did stop nursing at lunch when he hit around 8.5 months and looking back, I regret it. I was feeling like my days were too long and was trying to consolidate time but my supply took a hit and I never was able to get it to keep up once I dropped that nursing session and went to pumping all the time.

This wasn't an option for me, as we put LO in daycare close to our home, so it's about 45 min from my job. But if it had been, I would have considered it. Every baby has a different nursing style, and as they get older it's much more efficient, but 30 min should be enough time for even the most lazy nurser! When they are really little too, they typically are not as bothered by you coming and going, it will be more of an issue as LO gets older - I know now at 11 months my LO would freak out if I stopped by and and left again, but at 4 or 5 months it wouldn't have fazed her.

I recently changed jobs, which means my original plan of having LO in daycare from 730-330 went out the window. I'm now working a normal 8-5 schedule with an hour lunch. The daycare we are putting her in encourages moms to come nurse/feed at lunchtime, and I'd love to do this...but I have questions!

As a not-yet-mom, I have no idea how long a typical nursing session takes. It takes me 15 mins to get to the daycare from work, so round trip leaves me 30mins of nursing time. Is that enough? Would it be better to feed her a pumped bottle? Am I going to be late back to work every day? :p

Also, if you did this, did your baby react badly when you left after the nursing? I would hate to get her riled up every day, even if I do want to see her as much as possible.

I'd love to hear y'alls experiences with visiting day care to nurse/feed during the day!
