@Bookish: Could you maybe pump after you nurse (or when you get to work) if you decide to nurse instead of pump? I know Xander doesn't usually empty me in the mornings, so maybe you'll experience something similar. Then you might only need to get a couple ounces at night to meet your quota.

I would totally skip the morning pump and just nurse her in the morning/no bottle.

@Mrs. High Heels: I totally hit the baby jackpot! She stinks at napping, but honestly, I'll take the STTN over good naps!

@ValentineMommy: @Adira: I think y'all are right about skipping the morning bottle. We started it at first weeks ago so DH could have some time with her, but now it doesn't seem to have much of a purpose, especially if we have to wake her up!

@mrs. wagon: I like that idea! It's super easy for me to just sit there and pump while watching TV before I go to bed... And since I'm taking 2oz out of my stash in the morning, I'd only need 4oz at night to cover the 6oz I usually get in the morning.

I'm going to have to ponder this. I like the idea of not feeling pressured to 'perform' in the morning when I pump, lol!

I would totally skip the pump/bottle and just nurse her. If it works out you might be able to pump one side and nurse the other - this is what I do in the am.

@Bookish: Then I would say skip the pumping and add a pumping session during the day/night! Then you can leisurely nurse her in the mornings. She'll get quicker as she gets older. And you'll have more milk when you first wake up and if you don't pump, so even if she nurses slowly, she'll still get more. And even if that takes out of your daycare pumping stash, you can remove that first bottle in the mornings like you said.. it'll probably even out!

Here's our schedule:

5:30 p.m. - nurse
7:30 - Xander's in bed, hopefully ASLEEP
9:00 - wake to nurse, back to bed by 9:30
SLEEP
5:00 a.m. - wake up - get ready for work
5:30 - wake up Xander to nurse, back to bed around 6:00
6:00 - pump for 30 minutes - I usually get 2-3 ounces
7:00 - Hubs gets Xander up and takes him to daycare

After Xander's first morning nursing session, he can usually go 4 hours before he eats again, so he doesn't get his first bottle at daycare until 9:00. Then he eats at 9:00, 12:00, and 3:00, 5oz bottles (though I suspect he doesn't need that much).

I think you could probably SKIP that first morning bottle, BUT your baby probably won't be able to get as much total if he's nursing after you pump. BUT keep in mind that babies are better at getting the milk out than a pump, so you'll be able to get more out TOTAL if your pump first, nurse after, but most of the milk be from your pump, so your baby might not be able to go as long before she's hungry again if your skip the bottle.

I would maybe just do the nursing session after pumping, but then send some extra milk with her to daycare in case she gets hungry earlier than normal.

I had the same thought as Mrs. Wagon - I think 45 min between feedings is so soon. I'd skip that bottle feeding and just let her sleep and nurse before I leave.

And how AWESOME that you got a STTNer at 6 weeks!!! You hit the baby jackpot!!

DS was STTN between 5-6 weeks old. At the time, he drank 8oz bottles (4x a day) on a very set schedule. He's now 7 months and still on the same schedule....

He starts his bedtime routine at 6:15pm...in bed and asleep by 7pm. He gets up anywhere between 7-730am. We don't wake him at night, and never did, at our docs recommendation. However, I will say, our son is a big dude and since he eats so much at once, can handle the whole 12 hours overnight just fine. He has his morning bottle at 8am.

If she can go without it, I'd skip the morning bottle.

@mrs. wagon: I know. We are lucky ducks. Mostly I nurse her for my own comfort. I don't get to see her much since she sleeps all night, and I love having that time with her. I think I need to either give her a bottle and not nurse (wahhh) or only nurse her, but since she is such a slow eater I worry that she won't get enough :/ I don't know if that makes sense... :p

holy moly, STTN since 6 weeks?!?!? oh me oh my!!

The first thought when I looked at your schedule was, why are you nursing her 45 min after she has had a bottle? If I were you I'd skip the nursing since that takes the most time.

I know this is one of those threads that gets resurrected a lot, but I need your advice! LO is 10 weeks old and has STTN since 6 weeks. We usually start her bedtime routine at 7pm with a bath, then I nurse her to sleep by 8pm. She wakes up anywhere from 545-615am, but the past couple of days we've had to actually go wake her up.

Here's our schedule currently:

6am: Wake up, pump for ~30 mins while DH gives LO a bottle of BM
6:30: Put LO in RnP while we get dressed + pack bags
6:45: Nurse LO (she is a very slow eater and takes over 30 mins to nurse)
7:15: Change diaper, put LO in car for daycare

So I guess what I'm wondering is, do y'all think there is a point to her getting a bottle of BM if I'm just going to nurse her later in the morning? I want to make sure she has enough, but since she has started to sleep longer and longer, I really hate to wake her up to take the bottle. Should I nurser her, and then pump? I need every oz I can get to cover her daycare, but at the same time, I'm taking a couple oz out every day to cover her bottle.

How much do you feed your LOs in the morning? If you have a young STTN-er, what time do you start their bedtime, and what time do you get them up?
