@josina: Keep in mind LO was like 17 months old at the time, though!

@josina: I loved the morning/ night nursing after 12 months! It felt like the reward for all the pumping and washing bottles and pump parts and stressing over supply of the first year! And as toddlers get bigger and busier, it is nice to maintain that quiet cuddly time.

@catomd00: Good to hear it wasn't uncomfortable. I just need to bite the bullet and do it... I think I will keep pushing the morning session a little later and pump less in the afternoon session until I can eliminate it. Thanks!

@JoJoGirl: Yikes, I guess you just know when you're done! I remember when I started, looking at a 4 mo. old and thinking how weird it would be nursing a baby that size (granted he was already 20 lbs), and here we are at 10 months.
@MamaCate: @catlady: @mamabolt: Thats reassuring that you were able to quit pumping and still nurse for so long! I'm not ready to quit nursing quite yet. I had planned to be done at 12 months but it just seems too near!

I went from 3 to 2. When I wasn't uncomfortable anymore I shortened one of the 2 gradually and pushed it to the middle of the day, then cut it out. I was never uncomfortable really. I quit pumping right around 12 months and we still nurse at 19 months! She's getting less now than she was but I have also been refusing a lot more and keeping it to only a late afternoon feeding and a short one before nap and bed.

I dropped to one session at work, just pushed it as late in the day as I could each day until I could make it all day. It took about two weeks to be done with pumping. I continued nursing weekends/nights/wakeup until LO turned 3.

Like PP, I dropped a pumping session a week and readjusted my schedule as needed. I nursed at night and MOTN only. I quit pumping at 11 months, and quit nursing at 12 months.

I just dropped a pump a week until I was done and only nursing in the morning (granted my LO was 13 months old at the time).

Wow, that's a great stash! I dropped one session per week over three weeks to cut mine out completely. On weekends, we switched from nursing to using bottles/cups and she did fine with that since she was so used to it from daycare during the week anyway. So within a month, we got down to morning and nighttime nursing sessions only, and no pumping. I thought she'd drop the remaining sessions on her own pretty quickly but after about 6 months, I weaned her from the morning one, and now, another 6 months later, I am preparing to finally wean her altogether. So we did a full year of AM/PM or just PM sessions. There were also times during the past year when she was sick and I managed to nurse her more frequently during the day and my supply held up.

@josina: you can do it! I went from two pumps a day to none over a long weekend but I think that your plan is better. You could play around and see if you can just keep the morning pump when you drop to one (assuming you get more then) or shift your time again. I pump weaned and day weaned at the same time (13 months) but continued am/pm nursing for another 9 months. We were able to nurse some on the weekend too so I think at this point your supply should be able to handle it. Good luck!

I did what you are doing... cut from 3-2 at a year, then a few months later to 1 pump/day. I started out still nursing on weekends, until one Saturday morning she was nursing and I started to feel a little uncomfortable because I don't think any milk was coming out and she was just sucking on my nipple :( That was our last session. I guess it just sort of happened organically.

LO is almost 10 months and I have over 1000 ounces in the freezer (and am almost out of room!).
He drinks between 10 and 15 oz/day, and I currently pump around 12 oz/day in 2 pump sessions, and nurse 3x. (I'm trying to NOT have to freeze anymore).
I recently cut from 3 pumps / day (9:30, 12:30, 3:30) to 2 pumps / day (10 and 2:30).
I'd like to get to 1 pump per day, and then none around 12 months; but hopefully still nurse mornings/evenings. He doesn't nurse much on the weekends during the day, so not terribly worried about that.

How did you decrease pumping sessions?
Were you able to keep nursing on weekends?
