Right now, LO gets frozen milk and whatever I pump is bagged for in the future. That being said, she's only getting 1 bottle of milk a day right now.

Mondays is frozen milk, rest of the week is fresh. Then Friday night I freeze that days milk. I use the oldest milk on Monday but I don't have a good stash so it is only a month old.

I use what I pumped the previous day and mix in freezer milk when it's coming up on 3 months old in the freezer. I had a pretty good rotation going for awhile- now that LO is almost a year, we're working through the last of my freezer stash.

@JoJoGirl: I do exactly what you said, because I had a little stash built up before I returned to work. I pump and put that milk into the freezer. Oldest milk gets thawed and put in bottles. It's working out great.

If you are nursing when you are home, I would send all frozen. It's quite difficult to use the frozen milk effectively and in a timely manner (for me at least). And you can have milk for longer if you keep freezing (after you wean). I give my lo about half fresh, half frozen per day. Although your milk is built for lo right now, everything I've read and all nurses I've talked to say that it's not enough of a difference to worry about.

Keep in mind that in a regular freezer, 6 months is a really log time. If lo takes it, great, but for me 4 months is about the max. If you have it in a deep freezer, you should be fine.

I won't have a big freezer stash when she starts, so I plan on mixing what I pump during the day (which won't be much, I never get enough to replace her feedings) with frozen. Unfortunately, that will only last me a month... I'll have to reevaluate after that!

I do @mrskc: method most of the time. But I also don't have a large freezer stash, so my frozen Friday milk is really just replacing last Friday's frozen milk (if that makes sense?) I also sent 1-2 bags to daycare in case of emergencies and have used it when I've spilled milk.

I wouldn't send all frozen milk since the milk you pumped 6 months ago was catered to his caloric needs 6 months ago. You could provide one bag of frozen milk and send the rest from previous day. Usually Mondays we do freezer milk and the rest of the week fresh and on Fridays I freeze all the milk I pump.

Our daycare provider came by last night to have our last meeting before LO goes full-time (*sob*). She offered to have me just send BM itself, either in a big container or in freezer bags, and she would wash the bottles herself and keep them there so we don't have to truck them back and forth every day.

This got me wondering - how do you use your freezer stash if you're pumping at work? I started pumping a couple of weeks after LO was born, so my oldest milk is actually going to be coming up on 6 months in the freezer when LO starts. Dh and I talked about it last night and realized it might make the most sense to pump at work, freeze the pumped milk, then send her to daycare with old frozen milk from the stash every day to start getting it out of the freezer.

I always hear people say they are pumping at work for milk to send LO with the next day.. if that's what you do, when do you incorporate your freezer stash?
