L is 10 months and if im solo in the am I put him in the exersaucer. If he cries, he cries. It's not like I take a shower that's any longer than 7-10 min, max.

@littlek: Yeah. *sigh* Sometimes she still wakes super early (around 4:30-4:45 or so. So when I'm by myself, I try to make sure that I have enough time to grab a shower before she is awake. Everything else I get done after that--before she actually wakes up--is just cake! As later wakeup times become more consistent (this morning she didn't wake up until 5:35!), I will be able to bump that a bit. But if I need a shower in the morning, and I'm solo, I have to build in that time buffer. : /

I shower at night, there's no way I can do what I need to do in the morning these days. I fully blow out my hair and either flat iron or scrunch in some styling creme (depending if I go straight or curly).

Usually my husband takes LO while I shower, but when he doesn't (and usually on the weekends it works out this way too), I just bring her into the bathroom with me. In the bottom drawer of the vanity she has a ton of toys and she just entertains herself while I shower. Sometimes "entertaining" means pulling open the shower curtain to see what I'm doing lol, and also dropping some of her toys into the shower with me.

I either shower at night and fully blow dry my hair, or I get up at 4 a.m. and *hopefully* will be far enough along in the getting ready department by the time she wakes up. Also, I try to do as much as possible at night after she goes down, so that all I have to do once I am ready is to get her dressed and out the door for daycare. This includes everything from laying out my clothes, laying out her clothes (down to her socks), packing her daycare bag, and loading the car with all the bags that I can load up early (daycare bag and my work bag with my laptop/files). Then, all I have to do is load up my handbag and my LO, and we are out the door.

My son is usually happy to play in his crib while I take a quick shower. He's a late sleeper, so it's typically not a problem. I'll get up and shower for work at 7am, and he wakes up around 7:30am most days. I'm a lucky Mama.

Showering is the bane of my existence now I have a baby! It's often not the showering that's a problem - she will entertain herself in her bouncy chair, next to the shower, for the five minutes it takes me to get washed. The problem is afterwards: I need to blow dry and straighten my hair immediately, otherwise it looks dreadful. If my hair is allowed to dry naturally, even just a little, it turns into a fluffy mess that cannot be tamed. You can guarantee that E will start wailing before I am finished!!

@Arden: This is a great idea! I might try this!! Question though - what happens when you both get out? Surely you're both sopping wet? E loves the bath but has a meltdown when she comes out - she is cold and wet and miserable - and only calms down once she is fully dried and dressed..... but by then I bet my hair will have started drying? And what if I drip all over her while I'm trying to dry her - we will be trapped in an endless cycle of sogginess! Agh! The logistics are giving me palpitations (sorry, it's my stress-head tendencies!!).

i solo parent when my husband travels. i take a shower at night too, after she goes to bed. it saves me time in the morning. but, i know that some moms put their LO in a pack n play filled with toys, and put it right outside the bathroom door so they can see them.

I don't WOH, but I am solo from 6am onwards, so on mornings I have to be out the door quickly, I jump in the shower as soon as I hear LO stirring. he takes 15 min or so to fully wake up and start fussing to get out of the cot, so if I'm quick I can make it :)

I WAH, but until recently, DH was gone for work by the time I was ready to shower. I just always brought DS into the bathroom with some toys and he would play until I was done. When he was around 2, I just started leaving the bathroom door open and he would be unsupervised while I showered. It worked and still works for us. He doesn't ever get into things he's not supposed to.

Since I started this, I wanted to update in what had worked for us: we tried a variety if things including bringing LO on the shower with me, leaving her in the room awake after nursing.

What is working now is that once I hear her on the monitor, I just jump in the shower. She just hangs out until I go get her and it seems to work. I don't know what I would have done if she were younger...I really didn't want to get up before 6 am unless i had to.

I get up earlier than LO but luckily she doesn't wake too early so I don't have to get up before 6am. she will also stay longer in the crib now just hanging out when she wakes up, and I will leave her in there unless she is really crying.
I definitely have just dry shampooed many mornings if she's up. she likes to sit at my vanity and get ready with me. her attention span would never let me shower and dry hair and do makeup so I just let the hair part go if needed and rock a ponytail.

I wish we had a tub that was big enough that I could fit baby in while I shower! Yet another thing to add to "things to look for" when checking out new apartments next year.

If I shower in the morning, I either do it before he's awake. Or feed him and put him back down to nap (he usually wakes up at 5, then will go back to sleep for 30 mins - an hour) or I put him in a bouncer seat and put him in the bathroom floor.

I'm not a WOHM but I'm alone w/LO when I shower. When she was younger, I would put her in her bouncer and put her right in front of the shower so we could see each other (we have a glass door). Now that she's older, I close the bathroom door and let her sit on the floor with her toys. We have a huge bathroom and there's a door separating the tub area from the toilet, and it's completely baby proofed so I feel safe letting her play while I shower.

I put DD and DS in the jacuzzi tub which is right in front of my glass shower so I can see them. They have a bunch of toys in there.

@brownie: Yes! Until recently, I did this too. (Not a WOHM, but I shower every a.m. once DH is out.)

We have a bathtub for LO that fits inside our tub. (Hoppbop Bato, I think. It looks like a real tub, just smaller and plastic.) I just filled it up and put LO in with some toys and went about my shower. At 2, LO is mostly able to do his own thing just outside the bathroom while I get a quick shower.
