We started with trying to give an evening meal when we got home from work but she was really disinterested, in part because she was so overtired and fussy by that time of day (doesn't nap well at daycare). This week we started sending in food to daycare instead for them to offer late morning and she is doing better. It makes me sad because I want to be involved in giving her solids, but it really does work the best for us right now.

Lots of great advice! LO is 4.5 months old right now and we're waiting until 6 mo ths to start anything. I don't even own a high chair yet! I'm getting prepared though.

I think we will start with one evening "meal" a day and see how it works after nursing when I get home from work.

I started solids at 4 months and did one meal a day (cereal) with his 10am bottle. I didnt separate the cereal/bottle much in the beginning because he always finished both. Moved to 2 meals (10am feeding and 4/5pm feeding) within a week or so, and then added purees with those feedings within the next week. Only recently (just shy of 6 months now) have we had to separate the bottle and foods to get him to finish both. Now our schedule looks something like this:
6:30am - 6oz bottle
9am - 2Tbsp cereal and 1/2 jar puree
10am - 4oz bottle
1pm - 6oz bottle
4/4:30pm - 4oz bottle
5/5:30pm - 2Tbsp cereal and 1/2 jar puree
8pm - 6oz bottle

I pick him up around 4:30, so either he's just gotten a bottle or I give him a bottle before we get in the car (my mom & MIL watch him, so it's easy for me to stay and hang out for a bit). When we get home, I give his cereal shortly after while we're eating dinner.

@littlek: We've given him bananas, avacado, pickles (he LOVES and it's the perfect size to grab), toast strips with puree on it (cut to the size of my thumb), slice of apple, slice of peppers, slice of pear, taste of clementine, carrot (cooked), hummus, raspberry (mashed up really well), and a french fry (bad mom). I can't think of what else. But mostly I just cut it into a piece that he could hold and he gnaws on it and doesn't really eat much of it but is just learning. Also has puffs, baby rice cakes, and teething biscuits. He has a dairy intolerance so we have to be a little careful but I'm getting more adventurous in feeding him. My husband is still afraid of choking b/c he still has no teeth, but I watch him closely and he spits out pieces that are too big for him to handle and in the end doesn't swallow too much.

My LO will be 7 months old next week. Honestly, we've only given him a couple BLW things to try on weekends. He's been sick on and off for about a month, so I don't want to try new food with him on top of that. (Thanks, daycare.) I think I may try harder and start some purées, too, because I'm hoping to be able to decrease his pumped milk intake at some point sooner rather than later. I heard that it's best to introduce new food earlier in the day so it doesn't mess up sleep (harder to digest), but there's just no time in the morning before work, and I want to be the one to feed first foods. Hence, weekends only for now.

I nurse at 7 before daycare, drop him off and they feed him cereal around 8. He takes another bottle at 1030, and then a bottle and cereal around 130-2. He nurses at 5 and last feed is 730.

We did one meal a day of solids for the longest time just at breakfast. Little M didn't have a second meal until about 11 months! His breakfast is huge and he gets it about 30 mins after nursing in the morning. Now he has a second meal in the afternoon at daycare around 2:30, but we still don't have time for an evening meal and he's fine without it (he doesn't eat if we offer food anyway)

I send 2 solids to daycare. They serve LO oatmeal in the morning and the second solid in the late afternoon. I get home to late to feed LO dinner before bedtime.

When we started solids around 4 months I was still on maternity leave. He went to daycare around 5 months. By that tine he was having a little cereal in the morning and sone purée at night. I started sending the cereal to daycare and then would give him solids right when we got home around 6. He gets his last bottle at daycare around 4. He would have his bedtime bottle at 645 and bed at 7.

At 6 months daycare started asking me to sen more food. So I started sending purée for lunch. At 8 months he now gets cereal and fruit in the morning right when he get o daycare and about 1 hour later a bottle then nap. Around 1130 lunch of solids. 1 pm bottle then nap. Then 4 pm bottle. Dinner at 6 ( now mostly we just explore with finger foods for dinner)

I know sources say to feed bottle then solids but I knew he was eating well at daycare so I didn't complain about the order that he ate things.

We did it on weekends to start with, and gradually started trying at night. Our schedule now is, get home at 6 (give her a bottle in the car if she needs it), give her some solids when we get home, then bath by 6:15 and bottle and bed by 6:30.

She is 7 months old now. We nurse when we get home at 5. Then, I cook dinner and get her dinner ready. We start feeding her around 5:30/6pm. I can't do solids before milk or she'll get angry.
Bath, books and bed start at 6:15/6:30 d she's in her crib at 7.

LO generally gets her last daycare bottle between 3:30-4:30; we feed her solids dinner around 6ish, then bath and a final bottle for the night around 7:30-8pm. LO also eats a meal of solids at daycare.

I would also just nurse as soon as she woke up from her afternoon nap at like 5 or so PM, then she would get her solids right after that. We never waited any serious amount of time.

Oh yay! That makes me feel better. I can definitely try 20 or so mins after nursing. Maybe even as hubs and I have dinner. I think I'll start with that and see how it goes.

When I started, we'd do solids 20-30 mins. after milk. 3 months in and I do solids when we get home and nurse her right after--she always wants the milk.

When you started solids when did you feed them to LO? I've read that you should primary nurse/bottle and offer solids an hour or two later to ensure they're getting enough milk. I don't understand how I'm going to do this during the week. I get home around 5:30, she nurses at 6, has playtime, bath time, story time and nurses again for bed at 7:30. When is there time for food!?
