@mdf106: I am hoping she will be ok to eat breakfast right after busing in the fall! Happy to hear it works for you!
@Adira: @Smurfette: I'm not sure about bringing breakfast to DC! I'll have to check in, that would make it easier. It's a home daycare so I'm not sure if the lady would be able to feed LO while watching the other kids but it's a good idea and I'll ask! LO will be more independent at earrings so maybe if it's finger food and not cereal or something that would work!
@dagret: she does STTN most nights now. I think maybe we are just in a routine of BF, waiting, then having breakfast. I could try this summer just to do it all upon waking!

6:30 alarm goes off
6:45 finally get out of bed after hitting snooze, and get ready for work (shower, dress, etc.)
7:00ish hope that husband has fed the baby, doesn't always happen though
7:15 prepare bottles and diaper bag for daycare, if husband is feeding baby
7:20-7:30ish dress baby for daycare
7:35-7:40 out the door for daycare (way later than I would like to be.)

I do not use my time very efficiently in the morning, but I know that I am very lucky to have my husband. Since, he does help with the baby. However, he becomes more helpful when the begin to eat table food.

@delight: My LO eats breakfast right after breastfeeding. I breastfeed first thing in the morning, and then we both eat breakfast at the same time. He seems to still eat fine. He has been doing this since he started finger foods at 9 months.

@delight: my husband makes him and L omelets when he's around...but when I'm solo-parenting, I mike those bad boys.

She will be much more mobile at 13 months (It doesn't seem possible, does it?) and might be sleeping through the night then, if she isn't already. L wakes up starving and demanding a nana - she might be ready to eat earlier than you think. Good luck!

@delight: I agree with @Smurfette: if the daycare will let you! We wake up Xander and just bring him straight to daycare and he eats there, but we'll often bring his yogurt and whatever. They don't normally serve breakfast until 8:30/9:00, but I tell them to give him food as soon as he gets in because he's hungry at 7:30!

@delight: Can't you bring breakfast to day care? We did that at R's old place since most mornings she just woke up and I had to throw her in the car. They had a microwave I could reheat or I just did bagel, yogurt, fruit, etc.

Some days I'm solo parenting in the AM, other days DH is there.

6:30 - wake up, if L isn't up already. Change his diaper, give him a banana & milk. Check my emails. Make coffee if it's been a rough night.
6:45 - put Elmo's world on the iPad for L while I hop in the shower.
7 - DH wakes up, starts on their breakfast. If he's not there, I get ready while L is playing.
7:15 DH & L are eating, or I'm mostly done getting ready, and we all eat breakfast together. I have cereal, they have eggs.
740 - change L's clothes and wrangle sunscreen on him
7:50 - we brush our teeth
8 - out the door

I try to get everything ready the night before if at all possible. Our clothes, anything for daycare, etc...

These responses make me happy she is out of the infant stage!LOL! LO will be 3 on 9/1 and she goes to daycare where I teach Ga Pre-K so it's a little easier for me.

5:55- wake up, get dressed
6:15- Wake her up, tell her to use the potty, dress her
6:30- go downstairs, give her a Pediasure, comb her hair
6:55- leave for work (she eats breakfast at school)

Man this is making me very anxious. DD starts daycare in September and I wonder how I'm going to do it all myself in the morning. I need to drop her off at daycare by 7:30 in order to get to work on time. I thought daycare served breakfast but it's actually just a morning snack at 9:15 so she'll have to eat at home which makes things tricky. DH leaves the house at 6:30 when I'm going to be waking her up.
I almost feel like I'll have to wean her. Currently she nurses when she wakes up around 7:30 and then Won't eat breakfast until 8:30. I'm not going to be able to have that hour in between nursing and breakfast in the fall.
I know I'm stressing for no reason and I'll get into a routine but it seems like mornings are going to be tricky. I can't imagine what they'll be like if we have two LOs one day.

DS is 6 months old and ebf's when we're at home...

5:45 my alarm goes off, I snooze a couple times
6-6:15 I'm out of bed and in the shower
6:30 Out of the shower, wake DH to get in the shower, go downstairs and get a cup of coffee
6:45ish DS usually starts to stir in his crib, I'll usually let him roll around and talk for 15 mins while I put my make up on, do my hair. If he starts to really fuss I'll go get him early
7ish go in get DS, nurse
7:15 change his diaper and outfit, then we bring him into our room to play on the bed or in his walker while we finish getting ready. <this will have to change when he really starts moving around, he usually rolls around a little bit but we keep a close eye>
7:30 head downstairs, put DS in a bouncy chair or the johnny jump up in the kitchen while we pack lunches, DS's bottles for the day and my pumping supplies.
7:45 we're out the door!

Hope that helps!!

@JoJoGirl: me too, but supposedly it's super easy and you don't need to have it at a rolling boil.

I also want to try steaming eggs. I spent some time on weelicious two days ago, in fact, looking for lunch ideas to send to camp. There's no reason why some of those lunch ideas can't also be breakfast!

@Dagny: Good luck! I know a friend of mine that did Whole 30 pre-made her breakfasts at least for the veggie part and then just added the toppings the morning of. My husband now throws eggs/egg white in a pan for breakfast most mornings and steams frozen veggies in the microwave for his lunch at work. It doesn't take him more than about 5 minutes.

If I remember correctly, our morning was about like this:

5:45 wake up if we needed a shower
6:00 start getting dressed and ready (with or without LO depending on her sleep).
6:20 out to the living room to grab a yogurt, I would get LO dressed, DH packed bags (pump bag, daycare bag, and lunch).
6:30 out the door.
6:45-7:15 - Nurse at daycare
7:30-7:45 - Arrive at work.

There are so many options for breakfasts, especially things you can make ahead! For veggies, if you are committed to doing them fresh in the morning, I'd prep them the night before. One thing I learned to do is to shred zucchini, it cooks up super fast and is quite delicious!

One thing I have been dying to try is where you make omelettes in baggies...you basically crack the eggs into a ziplock bag and then you toss the whole thing in boiling water.

@Dagny: You'll have time to sit and eat if you cook the night before (after LO goes to bed). Agree with others, a lot of breakfasts are easy to make ahead and reheat, mini egg muffins, pancakes, quiche, etc.

Yeah I thought the responses to my question might be along those lines... Well I know I won't be able to do exactly what I'm doing now, but hopefully if I plan and prep ahead of time and wake up really early, I'll still manage to be able to cook a basic meal in the mornings. I could always steam veggies the night before and warm them up, that kind of thing. It will certainly be a change!! :bummed: I think what I'm most worried about is feeling rushed when we eat breakfast together. I definitely can't compromise on sitting down to eat breakfast with LO (it's just my thing), so I'll have to come up with a game plan and do the best I can.

DS is 18 months and not EBF but he still BFs in the morning..

Things I do before:
I do laundry on the weekends and set his clothes out for the entire week.
The night before I fill his cups, set my coffee maker, make my lunch, pack his daycare bag if we need to bring anything (swimsuit on some days, extra diapers etc)

530- wake up and get ready
6 - put cups in daycare bag, drink coffee, eat; grab lunch etc
620 - let the dogs out which usually wakes up DS.
625 - go into DS's room, give him some milk while I grab his clothes and stuff to change his diaper. Get him dressed, change him, nurse him, etc.
645 - he has a snack before school (yogurt or granola bar)
650- off to daycare and I head to work.

@dagny, that's not sustainable, IMO. I would look at a crustless quiche, too. I will sometimes prep dinner in the AM, but 40 min is...insane :)

cut your veggies on the weekend and toss them into a greased pan. Pour egg on top. Bake. Done. You're going to have to seriously streamline/simplify that, honestly.

@Dagny: I make a crustless quiche with lots of veggies in it each Sunday and then reheat each day for breakfast. I definitely don't have 40 minutes to spare in the morning

@Dagny: Wow! I can't imagine that. I would think you are going to have to do major prep work on the weekends or the night before. It is tough trying to get out of the house on time. Unless you have a job that is flexible and doesn't care if you are late.
I hope it works out for you though if it is that important to you. Maybe you can always make egg muffins and have chopped up veggies in those?

@Dagny: oh my goodness.. there is NO WAY i'd be able to cook breakfast while doing all this alone in the morning. If I was that dedicated to a homecooked meal, I'd either do oatmeal in the crockpot overnight (set it before bed and it's ready and warm in the morning), or prep EVERYTHING ahead of time so I can just throw veggies and eggs in a frying pan.

Current Schedule:

If K sleeps until I wake her -
5:45am: Alarm goes off. I shower/get ready.
6am or 6:20am (if I straightened my hair): down stairs for coffee, packing my lunch, making K's two bottles for DC.
6:30am: Back upstairs to apply makeup, pick out my clothes and get the dog up.
6:40am: quick walk for dog
6:45am: make K's morning bottle, go up and wake her up, diaper change, bottle feed
7am: K plays in her crib for a minute while I go change myself, then come back to get her dressed.
7:10am: out the door

If K wakes at some point during that process prior to 6:45am - I simply stop what I am doing and go get her, change her, feed her and usually either let her play in her crib or bring her downstairs to hang in the rnp until I am done with my "chores"

Note: some mornings I am making dinner, aka putting stuff in the crock pot...we need to get better about doing this more often.

I am planning to start getting up two mornings at 5am so I can go for a jog...fingers crossed I can swing it!

ETA - I do this all while DH blissfully sleeps! :)

6:10 - Wake up, shower, get ready
6:30 - DS wakes up on his own, and immediately starts screaming for me. Change him and bring him downstairs for breakfast, get him fed, make coffee and grab a quick bite.
7 - Wake up DD, get her dressed and fed. DH also wakes up at this time, showers, and gets ready for work.
7:45 - DH drops the kids off at daycare, and I head into work at the same time.

@SMURFETTE - Yes, probably 40 minutes on average. Part of it is that DS makes it really difficult for me to cook when I'm home by myself, but I try to make some kind of vegetable dish with every breakfast (roasted squash, multi-veggie 'scramble', steamed veggies, etc.). The prep usually takes 15 minutes or so and then another 15-20 minutes of actual cooking. I know I'll need to do a lot of prep work in advance and plan really well, but I'm just really nervous that I won't be able to manage. Cooking every meal is the thing that is really most important to me on a daily basis, so hopefully I'll be able to manage it somehow..
