I use these to transport all my Pumping stuff in my tote. I actually use the large one that is intended for tablets. Love these! They are washable and so convenient! http://www.samanthagracedesigns.com/store/home.php?cat=11

I have the Medela PISA that I carry to and from work. The bag it came with holds the pump, the cooler it came with (which holds 4 small Medela bottles) and I also use two additional cooler bags that I got for free at the hospital. Each one can hold two 8-9 oz bottles. I keep one with those two bottles and put my pump parts in a ziploc in the other one. So four small bottles and two large ones total. That was enough to hold all the milk I was pumping at my max (about 30 oz). I also cram my lunch, which is normally confined to a Tupperware container, into that same bag instead of a separate lunch bag. :)

@edelweiss: ha i hear that, i look young too...which is why i try to carry more professional looking bags, every little bit helps, right?! I am hoping the diaper bag i bought will actually end up being more of my work bag for a while, since it really is so much lighter than my leather purse.

@Smurfette: Ha! that sounds like exactly what i'm trying to avoid (and what i already look like on any given day if i happen to go grocery shopping on my way home!)

@Pirouette: i understand, it's definitely a splurge. for a few months i just used a backpack and felt like a big dork (i look young and the backpack really reinforced the teenager image) while i scoured the internet for totes. then the tumis went on sale at the end of the season and i snatched one up.

I feel like a bag lady. I have a huge tote bag that has my pump, hands free bra and cooler. The cooler has the bottles I pump into, Ziploc bag with pump parts, and freezer packs (for the ride home, keep in the fridge at work). Then I have my lunch in a separate bag. Along with my purse.

@mrs. wagon: ahh that's awesome! that would alleviate the trouble of having to find the right cooler bag. My lunch is usually one salad tupperware and then a few zip lock bags of snacks, so i'm guessing it'll fit in there. I'm totally taking a walk over to WF at lunch to see if they have those bags so i can check them out in person!

@Adira: that sounds like it would definitely be big enough - i can't see pumping more than 3x a day at work.

thanks for the help, you guys are the best :)

i bought a tumi voyageur q tote:
http://www.tumi.com/product/index.jsp?productId=13230246
(i bought mine on sale)

it is light and big enough to hold my regular purse items as well as pump supplies. plus it is super light.

i also carry a built tote for my lunch, ice pack and milk storage bags. i can put this in the tumi tote as well, but i usually carry it in my other hand so that one shoulder isn't weighed down too much.

@Pirouette: @mrs. wagon: Oh, good point - the Medela PISA comes with it's own cooler bag and freezer pack. It will easily fit 4 Medela bottles or 3 Medela bottles and the 2 flanges! :)

@Pirouette: Yes, at least mine did! I think all the Medela pump bags come with a cooler bag (like a small rectangle) with an insert that is shaped to fit around the bottles.

WF has these little insulated shopping bags, so I'd put my pump cooler bag into the bottom of that and place my lunch right on top. Tight fit sometimes, but the lunch bag also has a little pocket in the side for drinks or small items. I found it very useful! No longer pumping but I still use it as my lunch bag! :)

@Pirouette: I use the same cooler bag for both my Avent and my Medela bottles. Just with the Medela, I'll have three bottles + flanges (and the Medela freezer pack) in the bag. It works well for me! :)

@mrs. wagon: ok rookie question :) the pump bag comes with a cooler bag? I don't think i've ever seen the WF insulated bags, but i may have to check that out...i would love to be able to combine my lunch bag and cooler bag!

I have the Louis Vuitton Large NeverFull. I'm able to carry my cooler bag with 4 bottles, 2 flanges/pump part, my medela freestyle pump and everything I need for the day (lunch, wallet, keys, etc). But I'm not sure it would be a comfy bag to carry on your should for 1.5 miles. It would be fine for when you ride the bus.

@locavore_mama: yup, nyc! right now i carry my purse on one shoulder and my lunch bag on the other...I do think a messenger bag would be easier, i just wonder if i'd be able to fit everything in one (they seem a little smaller than a large tote, or at least slimmer). HOWEVER, now that i think about it, i think my diaper bag came with a long strap...i might be able to do just what you said with it! Going to have to double check that.

@Adira: that definitely sounds doable! I think I'm getting the PISA to leave at work, so i'm planning on using the Medela bottles. so should i be looking for a cooler that is a little shorter and wider if the bottles are smaller?

@Pirouette: My pump bag had barely enough room for the cooler bag it came with, which stores 4 bottles, which was perfect for me. I pumped twice a day. If you pump more, you can keep two bottles for collection and the other two for storage and just keep adding new milk to the storage bottles.

I did become a bag lady :( but I was bringing the pump back and forth. At the very end I got a second pump thru insurance so I left a pump at work (yay!) but I still had to transport my bottles and pump parts back and forth. By then I was only pumping once a day so I was able to fit the pump parts and the 2 bottles in the cooler bag. I put that into the bottom of my lunch bag so I carried my purse as usual and a separate lunch bag. (I used one of those small insulated bags from Whole Foods.)

I hope this helps at least a little!!!

@Pirouette: The diaper bag potentially could work! If you can fit your bottle bag, lunch bag, and any items from your purse you need (I have my wallet, chap stick, phone, and a couple other small items that I just transfer to my tote for work). And I just use the two bottles to pump directly into and have never had a problem with it. It works really well for me! Although when I use my Medela pump (I have both an Avent Duo and a Medela PISA), I pump into two bottles and then combine them into a third since the bottles are smaller.

@Pirouette: another option can be a oversized purse that has a crossbody strap along with a shorter handle? H&M might be a cheap option!

ETA: you're in NYC right? I'm just thinking with the distance having your arms free to even hold a coffee tumbler will be helpful! Whereas trying to keep multiple straps on your shoulders, especially in the winter is a big PITA.

@locavore_mama: it IS a hassle, because i do it now, minus the bottles (and i'm also carrying some extra weight these days ;) )! a messenger bag is an interesting idea, ideally i'd like something somewhat professional looking, but a quick glance at that site looks like they have some decent looking ones.

@Adira: i think one large tote (maybe even my diaper bag, which is lighter than my purse because it's not leather) would be ideal if i could swing it, especially since i don't have to carry the pump as well. i do like the idea of pumping into the large bottles directly and not having to transfer bm in the work bathroom, haha.

I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to help you, I have a cube cooler bag (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Penguin-Cube-Cooler/23081624) that can store 4 Avent 9oz bottles, or 3 Medela 5oz bottles + 2 Medela flanges, or 2 Avent 9oz bottles + 2 Avent flanges.

I usually bring 2 Avent 9oz bottles and pump directly into them and then transport the 2 bottles + my flanges in the cooler bag. Then I throw the cooler bag and my pump into a large tote which also has my wallet and other stuff. I can also fit my lunch bag in there. So I end up carrying one very large tote that has all my smaller bags inside.

@Pirouette: I'm thinking maybe a crossbody bag like a bike messenger? It seems to be a hassle to carry so many bags for that long of a walk! I walk about 5-6 blocks from the train to my work and carrying a purse that housed my lunch/stuff and a pump bag was a big enough pain!

Timbuk2 makes big messenger bags!

I walk to work (about 1.5 miles), or occasionally take the bus, and i currently carry a large purse and a lunch bag. I think i'll be able to leave a pump at work, so as not to have to carry the pump back and forth, but I'll have to transport bottles daily, in addition to my lunch and purse, and I'm trying to think of the best way to handle this without becoming a bag lady! My questions are:

1) Do you have a bag that is big enough to fit your bottles, an ice pack and your daily lunch? does such a thing exist that would be easy enough to carry to and from work?

2) Is there something I could fit inside a tote so at least i could just carry my tote instead of a purse, milk bag and lunch bag?

3) I'm having trouble researching a bag because I guess i'm not totally clear on how many bottles i'll be transporting back and forth every day. Could i rinse smaller bottles to leave at work and combine the milk into one bottle for transport? Or maybe even transport in a plastic bag for freezing?

I'd love to throw a new lunch bag/bottle carrying bag on my registry, i just need to find a good one! Sorry for the millions of questions, but i figured you guys were the ones to ask :)
