She sleeps 8-7 most nights. I am able to get out the door by 7:20 since DH does most of her morning routine, I just have to nurse her. I pick her up at 5:30 so we get a decent amount of time in the evening.

i just posted something similar! totally stressed about this as LO goes to daycare in about a month and we are going to have a very tight schedule (our commutes are about 1 hour).

i'm no sleep expert, but i imagine the amount of sleep at night depends on your LO and also how much they nap during the day. i'm kind of hoping that daycare will be able to get him to nap enough so that we have a little more flexibility. at this point i'm thinking i will wake up at 5am, feed him at 5.30, i leave at 6am, husband leaves with LO for daycare at 6.30, i pick up LO at 4pm, get home around 5pm and start bedtime, DH comes home around 5.30, and put LO to bed by 6 or 6:30. but i could see how it would probably be a 7pm bedtime given daily snafus and wanting DH to see LO at night before LO goes to bed.

I go back to work on tuesday, and my plan is for DS to sleep from 8-6. Otherwise, I will only get to see him at 6am when I nurse him to get out the door by 7. DH will be dropping and picking him up from daycare and I get home after 7pm.

LO gets up anywhere between 5:45 and 6:15 (he's unpredictable). Sometimes he sleeps in and we wake him by 6:30. I nurse him before we leave at 7 to drop him off. DH gets off earlier than me and picks LO up around 4-4:30. Sometimes he naps during this time, sometimes not. I'm home by 5, do a mini nursing session and some play or cuddle time. Then I nurse him again at 6 to start the bedtime routine and he's usually down before 7.

I'd say he averages 10 hours a night, accounting for night waking. He's nearly 6 months now and he started daycare at 15 weeks. A month or so ago he was falling asleep for the night around 5:30pm and that was no fun since we didn't get to spend much time together. Although if we had tried to keep him up our "quality time" would have been very cranky.

I think you can plan out a rough plan of what you'd like your schedule to be and then just follow your LOs cues. My guess is that, if your LO needs it he'll just fall back asleep after your am nursing session. We used to leave LO sleeping in his carseat at daycare. Plus you can always send him in jammies and have them put his clothes on.

As he grows his schedule will change inevitably like you said, so I think it's okay to just try out whatever you think will work best!

@ladyfingers: Oh, i meant not feeding him breakfast at home...like solids. I forgot that he's still only breastfeeding! The nice thing is at that age, you don't have to worry about naps being so close to bedtime, and that car nap will probably help with the 8pm bedtime. I think it'll be fine, and if he's suffering from sleep deficit, he'll find some way to tell you!

I know it's hard! I struggled a lot when i put LO in daycare, but it'll make those post-work hours with him that much more special.

@Freckles: he'll be 12 weeks when he goes back. Solid point on the 3-hour gap but with a 30 to 45-minute commute home, I figure he'll nap anyway - he always falls asleep in the car. As for not having to feed him in the morning... I'd really like to be able to do that. I want to continue EBF/giving him breastmilk as long as I can and I worry not having that morning nursing session will impact my supply. Plus I'd like to have that connection before i leave him for the day. I realize this may be completely selfish on my part and may have to revisit my expectations if it affects his sleep/health poorly... I might be able to get away with waking him at 6:30 though and leaving around 7:15... If we hurry :)

This is all so hard :( I'm looking forward to working again but I really don't want to leave my days at home with him :(

How old is your LO again? It really depends on how much he naps while at daycare. When LO was younger, she would nap about 5 hours during the day and could get away with only 10-11 hours at night. Also, do you think he could stay awake until 8pm? Say he has his last daycare nap until 5pm, then that will give you about 3 hours of awake time until he goes to bed.

Could you arrange it so that daycare gives him breakfast/bottle when he gets there? That way, you don't have to wake him up so early.

Right now, LO will wake up at 6am for a nursing session, and will go back to sleep at 6:45. While she sleeps, i get dressed, eat breakfast and get everything ready for her. Once she's up at 7:30, i'm able to feed her and get her dressed in 45 minutes. My situation is a bit different since when i go back to work next week, DH is responsible for the drop off (he starts work later), and i'll pick her up after work (i get off earlier).

LO gets woken up at 6am and we're all out the door by 7am (I go straight to work, and DH drops her off at daycare). By the time I pick LO up at daycare, it's 4:45-5pm. We come home, she eats dinner, plays/digests for 15-20 minutes, bath time, and then she's in bed by 6pm. She needs her 12 hours of sleep at night so I put her to bed before DH comes home to see her.

What time does your LO go to bed/wake up in the morning? I've read infants should get anywhere from 10 to 12 hours of sleep a night and I'm hoping 10 will cut it.

I have to be at work by 8 and daycare/work is 30 minutes from home so I'd have to leave by 7 to drop off LO and get to work on time. I'm thinking I'd have to give myself a couple of hours to get ready in the morning but could probably get away with getting LO up at 6 to eat and get dressed.

I work until 5 so with picking him up I'd get home around 6 - 6:30 (traffic is worse in the afternoon and I figure there'd be more chatting upon pickup). After nursing, bathing, and the rest of the bedtime routine, plus time my husband and i will want to spend with LO in general, I figure the earliest I could get him down would be 8.

Does 8-6 sound like an ok night of sleep? Or not enough? I'm struggling to figure out how I could get LO to bed any earlier than that, unless I'm overestimating the amount of time it will take to get him settled once we get home. I'm also figuring once he starts solids we will need to fit his dinner in there.

I'm really stressed out about all this! I know I won't really know till I start doing it, but does the above sound doable or like a recipe for disaster? He's already going to bed at 8 but I want to start waking him up at the "right" time to get him used to it, and if I need to move his bedtime earlier I want to start doing that, as well.
